Surprise!: DualShock 3 Officially Announced

After months of speculation, confusion, and leaks, Sony has finally announced plans to bring rumble back to the world of PlayStation, with the official unveiling of the DualShock 3 at last night’s TGS press briefing.

Some say it is too late, which is a popular mindset that’s just plain hard to argue against; it’s been nearly a year since the launch of the PS3, and the action just screams inconfidence, but it’s better late than never, I suppose.

Kaz Hirai noted in his speech that Japanese gamers will get the improved controller design first, while the rest of the world has to wait until Spring of next year to check out the support in an already impressive list of games that is said o support force feedback (check the list after the break.) — many of which are titles that have already been released that will require an auto-update.

Kotaku’s Brian Crecente posted his hands-on impressions:

It’s funny how you don’t realize how much you miss a thing sometimes until it returns….The vibration is nothing special, nothing that you haven’t always had in the Xbox 360 controller, but it sure is nice that Sony has finally gotten with the times…I also noticed that the controller now has a much more solid feel. Before the PS3 controller felt hollow, almost toy-like, now it has the heft of the Xbox 360 controller but in a seemingly slightly smaller, more compact package.

It’s like having an old friend back…
