Once again I got off light while Chunky and Coffee had to deal with the barrage of releases for the new generation of consoles. I figured since I had Black Friday in my week I’d have a decent list but I guess any games on your Christmas bargain shopping list have to have already come out this year.
Doing a Pademic Thanksgiving vacation and staying home all week playing video games and pinball. I'm glad I had the foresight to fill my house with cool stuff even before I knew I'd be stuck in it for a while. Hoping to finish Paper Mario Oragami King and recover some memories to figure out what the heck is going on in Disco Elysium. And we recently built a new PC so checking out Doom Eternal to see how the hardware holds up. That should hold us over until I get my hands on a PS5.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands
Release Date: November 23, 2020
This was delayed out of October but now conveniently drops on the 16th anniversary of the debut of the original game. I hope there’s a mode where Orcs have a sweet 16 party! It's an expansion with a “level squish” that will bring the cap back down to the original game’s Level 60. Also new is Exile’s Reach island for noobs to level up around other noobs before old timers start taking them out.
Just Dance 2021
Release Date: November 24, 2020
Platforms: PS5, XSX
This hit last gen a couple of weeks ago but if you bought a PS5 or XBox X to get your dance on now is your chance! You can find the track list at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_Dance_2021 which looks like my own personal hell to be trapped listening to. Also I’m afraid to check if there’s really a dance remix of Randy Newman’s You Got a Friend in Me. I didn’t think it was possible to make that song more annoying...
Release Date: November 25 , 2020
Squad goals! This “tactical rogue-lite RPG” is already out for PC, XBO, and Switch. I’m digging the graphics and music in the trailer. Save the world from impending doooooooooooooooom in this tough procedurally generated campaign.
Release Date: November 25, 2020
This looter shooter started trickling out to different platforms in August. The graphics look pretty sweet for a free to play game. The trailer mentions there’s a mechanic where you can donate food and supplies to other players and I had the visceral reaction of “Why would I do that?! Play better!” Apparently in the video game world I turn into the love child of Ayn Rand and Steve Ritchie….
Spirit of the North Enhanced Edition
Release Date: November 26, 2020
Again trickling out on other platforms for a while this 3rd person adventure game hits PS5 this week. It's set in Iceland and has story elements for Nordic folklore. I think this came out another week I was on new releases but I’m too lazy to go look if I wrote the exact same thing then!
