New Releases: Week of March 21st, 2021

Spring! Thank Jeebus winter is over. I know I am not out of the wood yet. There is a chance of snow all the way up to the end of May around here but the 4' tall drifts on the sides of my driveways have all but cleared, the Christmas lights are down and put away, the cars are washed and will stay clean for more than a day and camping is right around the corner!

On the gaming front I beat Mordegan in Dragon Quest XI s this week so I feel pretty good about that. I could use the time turner, crystal thing and go back and do it all again...but no. After 85 hours I think I'm good. I tried Mechwarrior Online as per Coffee's suggestion and got my ass handed to me...in the tutorial. I streamed that ass kicking so you could always go watch it laugh. I am not sure if I am up for more humiliation or not. I told Coffee, "I love big ass robots! I just suck at controlling them." The closest I got to being ok with it was Mechassault on the OG Xbox. Then Mechassault 2 came out and destroyed any hope of ever being good.

On another note, Mrs-Soup and I played a few hours of Totally Reliable Delivery Service. We were killing ourselves laughing as we fumbled around trying to just get the damn package in the helicopter...let alone fly that damn thing! I bring that up because another relationship tester game is releasing this week so lets dive right in!

Overcooked: All You Can Eat
Platforms: PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One
Release Date: March 23rd, 2021

Mrs-Soup and I had fun playing the original Overcooked but I won't lie...it got tense. We then thought it would be a good idea to enlist the kids to help. Things went downhill fast. The tears of laughter soon became tears of frustration, words were said like "Just do the damn dishes!", controllers were flipped, the game was shut off. No-one is allowed to play it anymore around here.

Balan Wonderworld
Platforms:
PS, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, XSX/S
Release Date: March 26th, 2021

Characters that have large hats that have the eyes set above the brim creep me out. There is something inherently evil about their design. If you are a fan of the "Run, Jump, Duck!" genre of games you might want to give Balan Wonderworld a look. I suggest you watch the trailer first though.

It Takes Two
Platforms: PC, PS4, PS4, Xbox One, XSX/S
Release Date: March 26th, 2021

All I have is Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock in my head now. I am not going to write the lyrics out for you but if you are around my age you likely know what I am referring to here. It Takes Two seems to be an action adventure game with some odd marriage counseling undertone played out with dolls.

Monster Hunter Rise
Platform:
Switch
Release Date: March 26th, 2021

A new Monster Hunter Title that borrows a number of elements from Monster Hunter World (which I need to get back to at some point). The monsters (oddly enough) became too hard for my gigantic sword wielding avatar and I was in the Live, Die, Repeat cycle so I gave up. For you MHW fans, Rise is not just a single player as you can join up with 3 other hunters online and includes a Rampage mode where you have to defend your base from waves of monsters. The more I read about it it sounds exactly like Gears' Horde mode. Not that that is bad thing, just something to compare to.
