New Releases: Week of April 21, 2019

It’s Easter weekend.  What games would Jesus play? If he has to choose from the list of what’s coming out this week I’d put my money on Imperator: Rome.

Mortal Kombat 11

Release Date: April 23, 2019

Platforms: XBO, NS, PC, PS4

Mortal Kombat was my arcade go to in the 90s and I kept  up with versions for a long time on consoles. I always loved the over the top fatalities and the weaving of story into a fighting game. Everyone once and a while I’ll go back and play MK2 or 3 but its been a while since I picked up a new version so I’m no longer up on the whole backstory. Looks like this one pits Kronika Keeper of Time against Raiden and lots of old favorite characters are still hanging around. New in this version is a system to Kustomize Kharacters gear, though it doesn’t change any abilities. There is a custom Kharacter Kreator where you can define your own moves.  I wonder if I can define kick a$s patterns from whatever button mashing I default to.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen

Is that a dragon man? Or maybe he’s just a dragon...this RPG has been out for other platforms for a few years but makes its way to Switch this week. In the game you play with 3 AI companions which you can share, trade, and upgrade online.

Imperator: Rome

Release Date: April 25, 2019

Platforms: PC

One way to get kids to learn history is to put it in video games. Although I’m not sure how popular military strategy titles are with whatever you call the generation that comes after millennials.  The game starts in 304 BC and all of the nations in the timeline are playable in the game.

Days Gone

Release Date: April 26, 2019

Platforms: PS4

This is a third person post-apocalyptic action adventure survival horror game.  Did they throw enough things in there?! Oh and the main character is also a former outlaw, drifter turned  bounty hunter so once again all the things. The graphics look pretty sweet.

Super Meat Boy Forever

Release Date: April 26, 2019

Platforms: PS4, NS, XBO, PC, Android, iOS

This title started off as mobile game but Team Meat decided there was fun for everyone to be had and it became a full fledged sequel.  Dr. Fetus has kidnapped Super Meat Boy and Bandage Girl’s child Nugget and they’re on a mission to rescue her.

Release Date: April 26, 2019

Platforms: NS

Another exciting trip to the box factory! I’m not sure why Nintendo feels the need to yell at us about boxes in all caps for the title. In this game from HAL Laboratory you have to think outside the box to save the world.  You use boxy characters Qbby, Qucy, or Qudy to create boxes to find ways around obstacles.
