Turn 10 Community Bounty Hunter - 8/9 through 8/16

Another week. Another CBH. Another T10 employee waiting to be crushed under our wheels.

http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forums/thread/5636151.aspx

There's a poll for the Unicorn you'll recieve if you beat his final time.  I voted for the Lambo, but so far the Integra's just barely edging out the Shelby.

MINE'S R34 Skyline GT-R (14.9%)
Shelby GT500 (29.8%)
MINE'S R32 Skyline GT-R (5.8%)
Mugen Integra Type-R (33.9%)
Gallardo Superleggera (15.7%)

Hello Forza fans, and welcome to my world.

My name is Andrew and I’m a Lead Track Artist here at Turn 10 Studios. I started with Turn 10 in 2008 after college and Worked as an Environment Artist on Camino Viejo and Amalfi Coast.  On Forza 4, I took over as Lead on the Bernese Alps.  My duties involve, designing the track layout, establishing visual moments, and of course leading our crack team of Artists through production.

The Challenge for this week is the Club Circuit, which is my favorite Alps Ribbon. I designed this circuit to be about flow and carrying speed.  Double apex turns, brave braking zones, and flat third gear corners, this track rewards a smooth driver with balls of steel.

Fun fact; Club Circuit was originally slated to be the first track in the game as well as the only track in the demo.

The gauntlet:

I'm the fastest driver on the track team and I guarantee I've driven more laps around the Bernese Alps than any of you. If you think you can beat me on my track, I’ll send you back to Sidewinder where you belong. This is my mountain!

In all seriousness, good luck and I hope you guys have as much fun racing our fictitious tracks as I do working on them. I'll be lapping more and more as the week goes on, so check back here for updated lap times.

Event: High Noon Saloon
Gamertag:
Start: Thursday Aug 9th
End: Thursday Aug 16th 8am PST.
Time: TBA

The side challenge this week is about race tracks. What is the most important characteristic of a race track and why?
I’ll be reading your replies and giving my favorite poster a unicorn of their choice. After your answer be sure to include the unicorn you want if I pick you.

Looks like the Merc 190E is the car to beat right now.
Did a quick tune on my recently acquired S204 and posted a 1:21.542.  I know I left a couple of tenths on the track plus I'm not using the clutch yet, but it's still three seconds off the top time.
I've posted the tune on my storefront if any of you want to give it a try. I've gotten better at parts selection but the tune is still the base tune I get off of myforzagarage's tuning calc.

Hey Shaggy,

I was gonna try an S204 build but was working on an M5 for the club as a potential alternative to the 190E.

Nice time and I want to give an S204 a go too! I waited soooo long for that unicorn and got one a little over a week ago and then BAM! another one for some reason. Never owned one in anny version of the game and now 2! haha

Anyway.. I am sure you converted it to RWD, correct?

I'll give your tune a whirl tonite or tomorrow.

Cheers!

Yeah. Definitely RWD, it's the only way I could get all the upgrades I wanted.  Kinda surprised that it has the Forza rear wing, but not the front one.

I'm traveling this weekend but I can gift it to you the tune Sunday night if you want to play with the settings.

Will the DirtT tuned 190E from last month's rivals work well for this challenge?

Japandru's current time is a 1:22.032, but I don't know what he used other than it was a tuned car.

I've got DirtT's 190E up in the West Garage.  Haven't driven it yet myself, but it is a different build than the A Class 190E they created for last month's Rivals Event.
I'm going to try and break into the 1:20's with the S204 before jumping into the Merc.

Shiftydogz, your time might be quick enough to stay ahead of japandru's time, but I believe there will be a slower time that will ultimately decide who gets the unicorn.  If that's the case you're probably fine but I'd still keep trying to push for a quicker time and not wait for him to beat you.

Correction to the bolded text.

It miread a post phRED made in the CBH thread.
There is no slower time.  You need to stay ahead of japandru.

I've sent 190E & M5 both to Shaggy and Church. Cars I sent to Jarhead from last month were returned to me, so I'm holding off sending anything till Jarhead can confirm he's still putting the DirtT cars into the East Garage.

Personally, I like that E28 M5 more than the 190E, but I'm car maker biased. [:P]

I'm holding onto a 1:20.783 in the DirtT Stuka M3 (DirtT alien MURPH did a 1:20.264 in it) and also hoping not to have to jump into the 190E. The M5 was more fun to fly around the Alps in for me, but undoubtedly, the 190E is faster overall.

A some tips when using either of the DirtT tunes for Alps:

1. As you come off the bottom of the first hill, brake late and downshift before the dip. Let off the brakes just before the dip, then let the car slow down naturally as you make the first shallow left turn since it's now uphill. Pump the accelerator to maintain some speed just before cutting the apex of the second left, and gradually get on the gas smoothly going onto the uphill section to the village.

2. Don't use the brakes on the right, left, left at the village. Instead, let off the gas slightly before the braking zone, pump the gas mid-corner and pay attention to holding a smooth line and accelerate smoothly out of the corners through that section. The last left is critical to use all the space to the right to carry speed into the second downhill section--so apex early on that last left.

3. Try not using the brakes before the last sweeping left hairpin. Instead, let off the gas, and downshift to 3rd (from 4th or 5th) in the braking zone. Take the corner a little wide, cut to the apex, then gradually ease back onto the accelerator as you see the bridge structure.

4. I think at the end of this 12-turn (depending on how you count turns), I only use the brakes twice. In other places, gravity works quite well in slowing the car down enough for the corners.

As usual, I recommend drafting a faster ghost that uses the same car/tune.

Thanks for the guide. I will be having a bash at this tonight. All cars sent to me by dIRT can be found in the Euro club garage. Thanks dIRT!

Still haven't heard a peep from japandru. I'm starting to think that his silence isn't a strategy and that something's come up.

If he is going to run again hopefully it'll be tonight otherwise he risks drawing the ire of a lot of players.

I'm now hopeful that my time in the M5 will hold. I don't think I can get into the 1:19's with it although Alien drivers could get it there.

Dropped my time in my S204 down to 1:21.294.
Hopped in M3's M5 and got down to a 1:21.286.
My Subaru had a touch of push on entry and mild throttle oversteer on exit for the slower corners.  The M5 had better turn in but also a little bit more oversteer on exit.

If I spent as much time in the M5 as I did the S204 I'm pretty sure I could've knocked another tenth or two off my time.
But given the mystery that is Japandru and what his final time will be I jumped in the Merc and ran a 1:20.359.  Nice car.

It's totally within Japandru's rights to try and improve his time up until the end of the contest but it's generally considered a dickish move by the community if the bounty improves their time with less than a day to go.

Current Poll Results.
MINE'S R34 Skyline GT-R (31.8%)
Shelby GT500 (21.3%)
Gallardo Superleggera (18.2%)
MINE'S R32 Skyline GT-R (14.3%)
Mugen Integra Type-R (14.4%)

Unless ChurchPro's pulled them his post above indicates the cars are in the Euro garage.

The DirtT SONAX 190E is more neutral and faster than the Stuka M5. I'd say try them both.

The DirtT 190E tune isn't the fastest 190E on the Alps--there are SO very many 190E tunes since it's a LB car. We tuned ours to get into the low 1:20's easily with max stability. As usual, you'll need 2-3 laps to get the tires warm.

I'm about a second faster in the 190E than the M5.

Another great DirtT tune on that Merc.  I was a little bummed that I couldn't get my Alfa 155 (RWD swap) tune to be competitive, but a couple laps in the 190 and my frustrations faded away.

Thanks for the tune guys.

You're more than welcome!

That 190E tune was by Madax64. He is our newest member and tuner, and is a Forza 1 to 4 veteran. He's been turning out great tunes for some of the largest tuning garages in Forza previously. We're happy to have him aboard DirtT Tuned Racing!

Shaggy & Church: Sorry about the delay in getting you the 250 Cali Rivals tune. But paint has been finalized now, so I will be sending those tonight when I get on the Xbox. Also a very car-like Range Rover Supercharged for the next Bounty Hunter Rivals event.

No worries. Oh yeah. Just found out that Japandru came out of hiding. 1:20.445 at the moment. This will certainly piss some people off.

Jumped back in the Merc and got down to a 1:19.902. Still not using the clutch. I may have another tenth in me. Using Don Ente as my "rabbit". He's a good smooth ghost to follow.

Can't say I agree with running at the last minute, but it's not the first time this has happened. Still a very unkind move. One that T10 employees shouldn't be doing if they want to endear themselves to the community.

I just jumped into the DirtT 190E to give it half a dozen laps. It was easy to get into the low 1:20's with it--1:20.205 on 4th lap (first warmed tire lap).

phRED did state early in the thread that the bounty can run their event any way they want.  Andrew chose the douchebag way.
Post a couple slow times, disappear for five days without any interaction with the community and suddenly appear at the last minute to post a final time.

I betcha he'll explain it off that he wanted it to be a challenge and to prove that anything can happen and you have to run all out.
All very true, but it's still a dickish thing to do to the community.

I'll get off my pulpit now. Preaching to the choir again.

I was able to get your 190E down to a 1:19.600 w/ clutch.  I don't think I can get anything else out of it tonight.  If he beats me, he beats me.
Again, great job on the tune. yesyes

BTW. He's down to a 1:20.379 and still running laps, but the gains seem to be getting smaller.

Looks like he's offline and stopped at a 1:20.259.
I'm going through some old replays so I'll keep an eye on the CBH thread for another 15 minutes or so before I go to bed.

I'm expecting that thread will go into full meltdown mode in a few hours.

Latest from Japandru...

Hey everyone, so I didn’t read the rules template very well and thought the contest went until 8pm not 8am. So I’m going to push the end date to Friday the 17th at 8am. Fred is going to be mad at me, but I want to give everyone a fair chance to beat my time.

I'm hanging my hat on a 1:20.259 and won’t be improving upon it.

Sorry guys I’m new to hot lapping in Rivals mode. I don’t often have time to do the community events, and assumed that everyone would put down their best times no matter what I did. Sorry if it seems sneaky, that was not my intention. I did most of my hot lapping in Forza3 before rivals was around and back then the target was to get as high up on the board as possible. I now see people play rivals mode in a completely different way.

Maybe not quite the D-Bag his actions made him out to be.

The only thing I faulted him for was going AWOL during the week as he might have enjoyed engaging the community and learned about the gamesmanship that goes on.

Final time is set and y'all have till Friday morning at 8am to best him.

Bed time for me.  Thankfully I'm taking tomorrow off and can sleep in a bit.
