While I greatly appreciate all the work that has gone into the site (SOOO many to name), it feels like a bit of focus has been taken away from the comraderie and bonding that this site was so well known for.

I agree with what you say. I will add that it seems, to me at least, that the site has also lost its sense of direction, which ties directly into focus.

What is the site trying to be? That needs to be answered.

Tbh I don't know what has happened. I started here over two years ago and to Forza forums are as busy as they ever have been if not busier. Events have good numbers ranging from 8 to 30 drivers.

When clicking on "New and updated posts" for the forum, almost 1/3 to 1/2 the posts are out of the racing forums. This is both a blessing and a curse. It's great to see that level of participation in the group but, people who come for other genres may not see it for that. I tried showing the site to a friend and when I clicked on that he said he didn't want to join a racing site.

Tried explaining it to him but he asked why other groups weren't opened up for everyone to see the new posts when they clicked on the "New and updated posts" header? I couldn't answer that.

Oh, and I play FM5. Didn't get into the others but I am loving this one, which says a lot since I haven't liked a racing game since the original Need For Speed.

We are however at a serious hurdle. With the compete lack of community features in Forza 5 we have now become a group of 3 games. Forza 4, 5 and a growing GT6. Forza 4 is still the most populated game (regarding us) with a mix of FM5 and GT6. I'm just hoping they sort Forza 5 out, that or we are eventually going to be a PlayStation group and all the Forza 5 drivers will disappear in to the shadows! (Oh and the irony of me not buying a an X1 or PS4 but a PS3 lol)

Hey guys,

Great posts.  I'll have a lot more to say on this in the next few days, but needless to say I have a lot of plans for the future of 2o2p in 2014.  I'm sure given what I want to do, we will probably end up losing a lot more people.  However I think that is needed given the way gaming has changed so much in the past 10 years.

Its nearly impossible for new people to find others on 2o2p and the clans that do recruit lock down new voices in hidden forums where the feeling of a site community is snuffed out before it starts.  This used to be a necessity with 100 person friendslists and only 1 or 2 games, but now clans have become their own communities that plan "any game".  So in the end it becomes. "whats the point of 2o2p when we can just take their idea and buy a cheap forum to post on?"

Those days are past us now I think.  It seems better to spend time growing one community that focus on one group with mulitiple leaders and events.  Its time to get back to helping other gamers find people to play actual games with.  While it's not been publicly promoted, its time to push our mobile app and continue the push to V4 with a truely stripped down focus version of 2old2play.

I'm sorry for any lack of leadership and/or disappointment I've caused you guys in the past, but honestly I don't care if 2o2p is 500,000 people or 5.  I'll alywas work on finding ways to make it better and grow our community in new ways.  Even if that means starting over from scratch.  Because frankly, I love games.  Its why 2o2p exsists.  If I'm not around to play console games then maybe I need to grow the PC side of things better.  Maybe I need more console leaders to grow the forums that deserve growth.  I'm all for it.

Having said that, I'll be sending out a fairly long email to each and every site member in lue of the new year.  In it I hope to explain my plans for the future, piss a lot of people off, and get back to the roots of what 2o2p was.  Not a place for clans, not a place for cliques, but a place for friends.  If you want to stick around I'll see you in 2014.  If not, I have a list of older gamers sites for you that all "do it better".  Lord knows there are plenty out there now.  wink

Where does this leave 2Old4Forza?

My opinion, mostly as is but with a kicker. It would be good if Forza's general activity topics were at a level more common with other site stuff, like Off Topic.

Same for Halo, COD, BF and etc.

Put more general stuff in front of more faces. The very specific detailed stuff could be buried a bit.

Isolation and segregation can be bad. At least that's my opinion.

I would love to see the PC side of gaming grow on this site.  I think one problem any new visitor, that is a PC gamer, is some of the most popular genre's in PC gaming are not covered on the main forums page.  People that want to play and discuss RTS and MOBA's will not find an applicable public forum on the site and groups for general PC gaming like 2Old2WASD, stay hidden from visitors and new members.  If the expected traffic for these genres doesn't warrant their own forum, they could just as easily be discussed in a forum for PC gaming.

Cool.  I hope your vision of the site and mine are similar enough that I can/want to stay. I can hardly wait to see exactly what you're planning. I'm prepared to throw in a helping hand where I can.

Well, I look forward to the changes in the future.   Since, I am primarily an COD player, I have enjoyed playing with site members outside of my clan, but the issue of the 100 person friends list on the 360 kept me mostly with folks on my friends list (my clan).  However, with the switch to the X1, I have played with a lot more site members due to the reduced number of players on that platform and with the ability to go to 1000 on the FL.  At first, I wasn't a proponent of stripping the clans forums out of here, but I now see the need for it.  If you just left the game genres and forced those who would want to use the site to focus on the games that they like, I think that would be a step in the right direction.

I think the idea is to make this site different to bring people back (make it simple).  It should provide valuable content and an opportunity to network find more like minded gamers to play with.  Nothing is worse than turning on your XBOX, seeing no one on your friends list playing, and going into MP as a lone wolf.

Usually, Buzzkill, I just turn the Xbox off when I see nobody online.  However, with so many friends of friends Gamertags out there, its harder to find nobody online.

Dixon I'm not playing to many MP type games lately (Cod ) but if you're up for some Minecraft let me know I got a decent word going since the last time you were there

I haven't played MP on X1 at all yet except for a race or two in Forza.  Been playing Peggle 2, AC4, Forza solo and been watching a lot of Twitch.

BF4 didn't grab me.  I'm not good at CoD/BF and that showed very much trying to play BF4 alone.  I know I should get a team together but I don't know a large enough pool of friends who play BF4.

However, I'm up for Spartan Assault if anyone wants to play.

Waiting on Thief & Titanfall.

I thought 2O4F was already as open as it could be, I am guessing its posts are hidden from the trending topic feed and active topics because, that would be all you ever see, those guys post a lot. I look forward to seeing what the Dood has in mind, not bothered much about mobile stuff, 99.99% of my access is via my laptop but I guess many folk do use mobile. From my personal view as long as 2old4Forza and 2old2Race can still organize our races and keep our communities going, it's all good. It would be nice to see the other gaming clans more open, more PC related stuff too. Whatever comes I intend to hang around anyway, it is my first port of call in the morning and is checked even before I have my first cup of tea...Though I sensibly refrain from posting until I have drunk one.wink

Morning all!!! Tea? Nooooo! Juices? Yesssss!

As for Forza being any more open, be careful what you guys wish for. Have to agree on the trending thing, it's be kinda one sided. Although our general topics could be opened up to that I guess, but race co-ordination and such, while not needing to be closed, don't need to be on the trending feed.

Anyone is welcome to race with us, always have been, just no need to bury the trending in a 30-40 posts a day thread on a race on Sundays at 3 pm. laugh

Forza is as open as it can be and is really the model for any other group of people playing games on 2o2p.  Nothing will change form that aspect besides giving more tools into the hands of race leaders I suppose.  So I guess to answer the question it leaves Forza right where it always has been.

As for the trending topic area, I really only look at the box as a small window into 2o2p and I think there are probably much better ways to do this (more on that after the new year).   You're right, we probably don't need trending topics talking about races or winners.  I also think the home page of 2o2p could be a lot more geared toward the logged in user and their own personal interests without just spamming our stories or videos.  Think dashboard instead of front page.

I just noticed in my blog page that I hadn't posted here IN A FUCKING YEAR!!! I'm really pissed actually because I love this site.

I've been primarily on the site for Star Citrizen at Roberts Space Industries (Cloud Imperioum Games website). The forums over there are a great thundering heard of all the backers. But, when they opened up the organizations creation I was invited by Kurupt to his org and came back here also. I was surprised to see how long it had been since I had last posted. Ever since I stopped playing console games I didn't feel the pull. I primarily play PC games now (SWToR, FFXIV, DayZ Mod and Standalone, etc).

We need to get some people back if we can, good sites like this shouldn't peter out. We wouldn't have to do anything special either, just remind them that it's here.
