Redbox instant vs netflix
Been really busy with work this year so haven't been able to keep up with news. Just got an email from xbox saying Redbox instant is available.
How is this streaming part of the service different from netflix? I get the kiosk vs mail difference between the services but am wondering if new releases are avaialble on Redbox Instant streaming or are they set up the same way as netflix?
Anybody making the switch?
Question would be, does redbox have newer and more available instantly than netflix. I found Netflix quite limited on new releases.
Redbox has a much worse selection than Netflix. I thought it would be a total win if you could stream any movie the kiosk had in the past or currently has available. I mean they're alrady 28 days delayed so it wouldn't impact physical sales of movies any more than 28 delayed physical rentals do now.
Sadly that's not the case. They have a much smaller selection of old crap than Netflix making the whole thing a waste of time. In my opinion the only streaming services worth having are Hulu and Netflix aside from broadcaster related streams like dish network or comcast.
Redbox Instant's only redeeming quality is that you get 4 kiosk based physical rentals a month. But that's only 4 bucks a month and the monthly fee is $8 i believe so will yo uget an extra $4/month worth of streaming out of it if you have netflix? Doubtful.
Ah that sucks... It would have been nice to use the 4 dvd credits to digitally rent a new release.
Amazon Prime is pretty nice. If you order stuff even somewhat regularly (once every every quarter, you get free 2 day shipping with that) the yearly price of 79 bucks is not bad.
Even Prime doesn't have the selection of Netflix though. I have Amazon Prime as well but there hasn't been any compelling reason to ever fire it up. I havent' tried it on the xbox yet but i always found it difficult to find the streaming content included in my package using the website. The free stuff on prime is just there to entice you to rent/buy the newer stuff I think.
When you do the search on the website you select the box labeled with Prime eligible and that way it is easier to filter what you get for free.
Prime has a lot more shows I search for then netflix. But we could be looking for entirely different shows.
I think, if there's t.v. series you missed due to schedule, etc, then Netflix is pretty good, but the movie selections not all that great.I tried it for two months and shut it off.
One big difference I read was that Redbox will be strictly movies, no TV series. F that.
I dont have cable, or even local channels on my tv....just Nextflix. So when I want to keep up with current shows I go here http://www.free-tv-video-online.me/
they are up to date at midnight after premier of current show....so when The Walking Dead airs at 9 pm on Sunday....I wait till midnight, to watch it
Netflix is pretty great if you have a kid and want 'em to watch educational cartoons, is pretty much the only reason i keep it.
I did the beta for Redbox, and told them their instant selection was crap. They do offer an on-demand service, like Xbox Video, but not as good. Netflix's selection is just too awesome, I can watch the 90's Spider-Man, and X-Mencartoons, numerous Marvel and DC films along w/ Family Guy and American Dad, not too mention all the anime they show like Soul Eater and High School of the Dead. Redbox offered none of this, the only movie that interested me was the Superman/Doomsday and Green Lantern Animated film, the rest were just old crappy movies that even a film buff like me didn't enjoy.
I dunno, Netflix offers so many shows and movies I love, unless something offered Big Bang Theory, and King of Queens, I'll just continue to use my Hulu and Netflix services.
Red box is still just beta, but it sucks. Very limited selection. Just under 5k total movies. While watching it will fast forward parts. Picture quality was good though and quick load times.
