Here's what I know, it'd be stupid if it cost more than a replacement headset already with the correct plug...although if it says XBox on it, someone would buy it...

I am just saying that I wouldn't assume that we as a whole know what it takes to convert this proprietary adapter into analog with mute and volume as well.  It may have something built in that needs a powered connection and response from the headset.  Plus the adapters you mention for $3 - sure that's what they cost now.  But not when they were first created.  We all know how much stuff gets marked up, especially proprietary stuff.

We'll put a pin in this and meet up in November? laugh

laugh ok Outcast!

Why? I really don't think it'll cost $30 - but it's not meant to plug your old included 360 headset into.  It would be made for those who invested money in headphones, and so would be priced accordingly.  Whatever it costs I'll pay it - BECAUSE my headset cost me $300 and no matter what it'll be the cheapest route.

Why would it not be meant for you to plug your 360 headset into? I have a TB headset. The adapter I need for it to work on the One would work with my 360 headset as well. They both use the same 2.5 mm plug for voice chat.

360 headset = headset that came with your 360.  this:

I was pissed when they moved the volume control up the wire for newer models, but I got over it.  Looks like they’re going back to the old concept for the ONE:

New headset rumored to be $24.99 USD.

I may be old, but I know what the headset that came with the 360 looks like. I actually use it more than my TB (Turtle Beach in case you didn't know) headset. For voice chat, both headsets need a usb to 2.5 mm adapter. This adapter will work equally well with either headset.

Like you stated above, I believe the adapter will be less than $ 30. As long as it is less than $ 24.99, why would anyone need another basic headset?

Agreed.  Love they moved it back, at thumbs' reach.

However I do like the flip up mic on my A50's.

the original mic, posted above, is not a direct 2.5mm plug.  It's a chunky adapter that plugs into the controller with a mute switch and volume on it.

My bad, I have never seen that headset and plug combo. It would still work with the propsed adapter, but that would be extra clunky.

All my 360's have come with this:

I have one of each.  This one’s definitely not as convenient . . . . . .

Unless you've grabbed too many beers before hand..

yeah I hate that thing.  The mute switch on the cable is awful and not easy to find in a pinch.

But my point still stands - why buy an adapter that's $20-30 when you can get a brand new One headset for $25?  The only benefit would be if as you said you had a nice Headphones set and then also wanted to plug in the type that you posted, which would save money in that case.
