Well there you go, been a while since you did any moderating as well . Now I'm not wishing to have a go that was tongue in cheek in the same way your reply was. I am only expressing an opinion, but that is the kind of response I am talking about, no rational defense of the forums policy of letting threads get to the point where locking is necessary. There is a debate to be had here, the resent spate of anger and vitriol has been allowed to get out of control. I have tried a couple of times to open that debate with a leading post, offered to have it behind closed doors via PM. The response? None.
There was a thread prior the the Xbox announcement that illustrates the point nicely, it was a thread created to supply links to information, in no time it was allowed to degenerate into another slugging match and ended up locked. On that thread I suggested it was edited back to just the links, and any further off topic posts just deleted. A perfectly rational course of action that would have allowed that thread to remain open and be an informative part of the site. Instead it was just locked and left to rot.
Now things can carry on the way they have, or they can change. V3 was an opportunity for change and to some extent change happened. I was dragged kicking and screaming out into the wider world of 2o2p from the privacy of what was a closed forum, I was active in there, I'm active out here. Part of what I did in 2O4F was get involved, shake some trees to see what fell out, harassed the admins, started balls rolling...Well now I am out here doing the same. Your choice is to either help push the ball, or be the wall that it stops at.
Where would you lock them? Discussions are ok, even if people don't agree with each other. I'm only going to step in once people start being dicks towards each other. And honestly, I don't feel like reading all that nonsense. If there is an issue or something you see wrong, contact a Mod. I look at those threads and my head spins. It's a fucking video game console and not anything of real importance. At least that's how I look at it.

Anyway, I've been massively busy with my kids and sports. Both boys are in AAU Basketball (very high level) and that pretty much took all my time since February. It's finally (thankfully) over. Also, my youngest is on a travel soccer team which is always doing something or other. Just RL shit.

Do not mistake this with arguing or disagreeing with anything in your post Sir Knight. Just want to mention that no one is forcing you to come out into the shit storm that we've recently witnessed outside of our Forza forums. Stick to Forza and your PC forums and you wont get as stressed or atleast refrain from responding to anything out here in, if you'll excuse the ironical jab, "Lala" land cause you know enough now that it rarely ends well for you. :)

No moderating, passive aggressive posts...lockdown. The role of admin is not the same as the role of moderator, they are distinct and separate. A good admin is not by default a good moderator.
A good moderator would have stepped in as soon as the thread started to go the same way as a previously locked one and follow this line...Private warning, post deletion, final private warning, short time out and as a last resort a temporary ban.
This last step is where the admin come in. On the advice and reasoning of their moderators they are the ones that issue the ban. Short time outs should be within the remit of the mods.
This way threads stay on topic, rarely if ever need to be locked and busy Admins don't need to be bothered by day to day moderating tasks, and can get on with the job site maintenance.
Or you can leave it as it is. All the same to me
Oh final thought, delete OT posts back to the ones containing relevant links, leave it open and just keep deleting OT posts, people will get the message in no time.

As for reporting posts to a moderator, that seems to result in someone coming onto the thread and throwing their weight around and telling people to stop acting like fucking dicks...We can see how that works out.

I was not telling you, simply outlining how I felt the silliness seen over the last couple of weeks may have been handled differently. Not heavy moderation, just some moderation in specific instances.

Lala brings up a lot of good points about the Moderation. I suppose we could try stuff like setting our own limits on post quality but the TOS doesn't really support it. I think Doodirock would like us to be able to try doing stuff our way but if things went wrong, what would we fall back on.
I was in the thick of things these last few weeks and while some of it was fun, I was also infuriated by the poor quality of posts and general meanness which eventually included my own posts. If I were to be a Moderator doing it my way I'd likely start by deleting rotten post content until the poster, learned their lesson, stop posting altogether or left the site. It's not my site to be chasing people away. Good thing I'm not a Site moderator because it would have been ugly. I'd made a bigger pariah of myself than I normally am and probably left the site in disgrace and embarrassment.
Site Mods really stick their neck out everytime they feel the need to step in.
Being a Mod is just something I could never do, Lala is right this site is different than most as we are all adults here and we should be able to work things out ourselves. In these cases I have reposted and smoothed it over.
I do think the guys here do a decent job and let things go on long enough for us to sort it out ourselves. If that doesn't happen I've seen them step in to fix the problem. Site mod is the worst fucking job ever. You can't win. The only job worse that Site Mod is being Gunny's Wife. That poor lady, I feel for her.
