Completed but keep adding improvements and content...Hmmm :) Canned effects you say? Hmmm again LOL Not updated in a while, and think I'll still wait a while longer. The game is bought and I expect to get some use out of it, it will have some interesting content and tracks and should be a good jump in and play game, but all that, some cars being more ready than others thing is confusing, so once they are all done I'll have another look.

I've been absent from racing for the past few months as I have been focusing on family life, working a lot more to put some extra coin in the bank for some future goodies as well as working on plans for a future buisness so I haven't been able to visit the forums much and just getting my basic details of what's going on in the community from virtualr.net.  Today I had some time to go digging at WMD and found tons of exciting most of all touring car content released or very close too :)

just added yesterday was "dynamic road"!

rubbering, marbels, pooling, drying line etc.  here's a quote from a dev regarding the current feature.

"I've been continuing and have now checked in the dynamic session grip code. You should be able to feel the difference in grip in a race weekend as each session progresses with dry weather. You'll also be able to see it by sitting at a track corner, taking a screenshot, letting the session run and take another screenshot, and you'll see the groove has darkened as the rubber builds up. It's also possible to enable a session with rain and do the same test and you'll see the groove lightens as the rubber is washed away.

I'm also applying grip and wetness modifications to the AI's grip levels and path they take. Again, it's best seen on a corner where the AI will take a safer line in the wet compared to the dry and this is dynamic so start the session wet and the AI will take the safer line, but as the track dries, you can see the AI going faster and hitting the inside of the apex.

Finally I've done some changes to the mass and centre of gravity (CoG) calculations inside PhysX for the vehicles. This is helping with stability of the vehicles over rumble strips and taking tight corners"

Enjoy!

Thought I'd post an update here. I've been watching this game for a month or two now. Really looking forward to it. I played GT 1-4, then moved over to Forza for all the titles. Back on PS and for something new. Really liking what I'm seeing so far.

Really like what I am seeing in this game so far. Does anyone know how close to a simulation this will be?

From what I'm hearing from guys that run a little of everything, it's in a grey area.  It's not as hardcore of a sim as iRacing or rFactor2...but it's definitely more so than Forza or GT.  Being that they are aiming for the console crowd as well, they are going to keep it throttled back a bit so little Jimmy can still pick up a controller and race as well.

Ive been following this game since its announcement and been taking part in the build for nearly 3 yrs and its come a long way.  Theres been a ton of bad pre judging and misinformed reviews from haters and fan boys of hard core sims simply due to the fact many dont follow the forums or realize what content is at what point in the build simply because SMS has allowed us to experience a game build from scratch, where as other games give you a finished product or for beta testers like myself a near finished product to work out any last bugs before its release.

Ill admit there was a time i was a bit worried especially right before they were gonna launch in november the game was a mess and so glad they postponed till march.  I fired up the game for the first time in a while and took the Audi R8 LMS ultra around Motorsport Arena Oschersleben and i had a big grin from ear to ear.

FFB and tire model if you setup your wheel properly, personally id say is up there with the best.  Road feel is exceptional and very detailed i could feel every rut, divet and bump.  You can feel the shift of weight through the suspension and tires loading and grip levels.  the process from cold tire to race temp is phenominal as the tire is a bit snappy and understeery for the first lap and you can feel the grip building with each lap as well as tire wear and degration.

Graphics and attention to detail is untouched by any racing title and currently in a league of its own.

Many hardcores will label it an advanced simcade at best so be it.

For me i quit enjoyed forza but felt it missed alot of features and had no real race experience, Pcars checks all those boxes and matches tech features of the hardcore sims some of witch arent even in those games.

Features.

Single player career  mode starting in Karts and working your way up to formula A and LMP by qualifying and signing contracts

Customizable ingame hud/apps multimedia 1 click uploads built in youtube and live broadcasting

Mp, dedicated server, time trials, practice, point to point, leaderboards quick race

Very good audio

Visually animated pit stops, visual tire degration wear, window and car dirt, marbles, road rubbering, wet and drying line, dynamic road surface hot and cold spots based on weather and temperature, tire debris pick up affecting grip, multiple race compounds, pre race tire warmers, engine performance based on altitude and weather temps, very good damage model, car to pit radio where you can control your pit stops and ask for inrace details through voice activation, dynamic weather/customizable weather up to 6 weather changes a session and a the tire model runs on a 600 mhz physics rate.

The only thing iam not sure about as helio mentioned is how much it will be tonned down for the console users?

At the end of the day if you enjoyed forza and looking for more of race experience with sim like features this game will deliver it and then some :)

Cheers

So updated for the first time in ages, have to say it has matured quite a lot since I last tested it. Some very obvious moves to wow the casual console players, not a criticism just an observation. As I had just been running the updated Clios in rF2 I thought I would try the same car in pCars. First thoughts were what the fuck? Then found my brake pedal was not being recognized despite calibrating okay. Took a while to work out why that was. Anyhoo back on track with brakes and tried again. FFB has improved, not for me as subtle or informative as rF2 but FFB is kinda subjective and I spend a lot of time with rF2 so am used to how that feels, but there were times I could see slight front wheel drift but not feel it. Still like I say it is better by some margin than it was and I did finish 4 races in career mode, more time spent in pCars than ever before so that says a lot about how far it's come. I was running in pro mode of course so no assists

It ran smooth enough at the stock settings and looks wise, it is what it has always been, one of the more glitzy race games. The UI is...okay. Seems to have long load times and is a little complicated, triple screens mean some of the menu settings end up at the extreme edges of the outside screens and can take a while to spot. No multi view function that I could see so a distorted view on the side monitors that bugs me a little, but I'm sure that will arrive sometime.

All in all a good step forward, still not my game of choice but I will spend a little more time exploring the career mode and enjoying driving those tracks that I love that are still sadly missing from rF2.

A month and a half out! not to be a party pooper but if it was delayed a tad longer i wouldnt be surprised lol

Anyways who plans on getting it and on what platform?

For me its pc but have been contemplating getting a xbox one if enough friends from 2old4forza pick it up.

As a former Forza die hard, I can say this game has surpassed my expectations and is leaps and bounds better than forza was at its best, and will definetly be my forza replacement going forward.  I feel it has a perfect blend of everything which creates a well rounded package and is accessable for any skill level to jump in and have fun!

Good FFB

Good physics

Great graphics and sound

Great career mode

Easy to setup ui....some what even stupid proof with guides lol

Advanced sim features, dynamic track and weather, race weekend setups which can be tuned to your liking etc.

Community and league support for online

and best of all.......No money sytem and unlocking cars, everything is available from the start!!!

Heres a quick review from Empty Box.

I also am not surprised.  As far as I am concerned, they can delay the game until 2018.  I am up to my eyeballs in sim racing goodness with iRacing, Assetto Corsa, Raceroom Experience, rFactor 2, Dirt 3, The Crew, Forza 5, Forza Horizon 2, Driveclub and GT6.  I need another sim like I need a hole in the head.

1 more month! As a rre tester I thought the adaptive Ai was best ingame, but Iam stating to think pcars may possibly have topped them. I've been running a lot of races lately and Iam very impressed with 80% difficulty, there avoidance is excellent, they take a peak in every corner and if you give them any opening they will go for it with minimal to no contact, they will defend once on straights and try to shut the door when needed fairly. What I enjoy the most that many Sims suffer from is they won't slow down or back off once you catch them, I've even gone through multiple turns several times door to door which is awesome! I can't wait to see what the final Ai product will be :) Snappy I enjoyed running those races the other night it was good fun! We need to find a few more to join us, hopefully I can get more accustomed to the multiplayer setup so I can tweak things better and add some Ai next time.

I agree with you about the AI in pCars. Did you see the short video I posted in the pCARS thread at 2O4F? I will send you an invite next time I'm on.

My most anticipated racing title for the past 4 yrs has finally announced that it has gone gold and will released on May 8th! http://www.wmdportal.com/projectnews/project-cars-goes-gold/#more-6802 For those that got to experience the title build from scratch there was many highs and lows but as the release date is only a few weeks ago and receiving the gold edition on Fri I can say sms has exceeded my expectations of what they did with pcars considering the small budget and team. Congrats SMS!

Greetings,

For the past four years I was a member of Parcells' Gran Turismo group which met online weekly for GT5 and GT6. We had a group of 8-12 which met regularly and had a great time each week. Our number one priority was to have fun, but we also had many, many memorable races to go along with plenty of funny incidents. I'm pretty sure that none of us spent time prior to the race to practice, work on setups, perfect lap times, etc. We picked different cars and tracks each week, ran with fixed setups, showed up and had fun. It was all great until people started upgrading to XBox1 and PS4 systems, and during the past year the group began to fall apart.

Anyway, I'm looking to re-create this same type of group with Project Cars on the PS4. Our group always met on Thursday nights at 8:00pm EST, with racing starting up around 8:30pm EST. The format we used was pretty relaxed: we'd pick one car and five tracks each week, with each race lasting about 15-minutes, with about 5-minutes of practice for each track. If for some reason we picked a car that everyone hated, we'd simply change cars. If we wanted to keep racing beyond the final 'scheduled' race, then we just picked another track and kept racing. We didn't keep track of points, we had very few rules, we allowed driving aids, etc (hell, we even had one guy who used a controller.) The point was to have a regular group of people show up every week and have fun racing on different tracks with different cars each week.

Who will like this type of group: any one who takes a casual approach to Project Cars yet still wants to enjoy some clean, competitive racing without spending hours practicing, and can overlook the occasional bump off the track or an over-aggressive pass

Who will not like this type of group: some one who invests a lot of time dialing-in setups and spends many laps on the track perfecting lap times, studying tire wear at different track temps, will get bent out of shape at the slightest fender rub from a fellow driver who may have had a few sips of beer prior to the race , etc

I did also have the idea of creating a second group (perhaps on Sunday nights) which would be devoted to one long (1.0-1.5-hour) race. However, first it's important to have a group of like-minded drivers who will show up regularly on Thursday night.

Anyone who may be interested, please respond here or send me a PM. I'll give it a week or two to see if we can get at least 6-10 folks who are interested. Since we never kept a schedule it will be simple for us to get started and for people to join at any time.

Cheers!
