Is it normal to get killed all the time?
If you're underground mining you need to make sure you're putting up enough torches so there are no dark areas where enemies can spawn also. Took me awhile to figure out why enemies were coming out of nowhere behind me.

Yes, torches are a must. I put them about every 6 blocks or so. Better to be too bright than too dark. I'm not sure about this, but, I've also made sure to rid any tunnel of dirt, gravel or sand, and replace it with cobblestone. Seems to have done well for me. I also seal off any extraneous veins with cobblestone.

Play with Gul. Practically every block has a torch on it. He's gotta be afraid of the dark.
4J Studios tweeted yesterday that "new resources or fixes to resources will need a new world generated"
A little disheartening news but I'm not gonna bitch considering the price tag (20 bucks for a game thats gonna keep me playing for a steady year at least) , them battling MS over free udates, and their plans to convert as much of the pc version as they can over to the xbox.
I'm brand new to minecraft and sort of at a loss. I see videos on youtube of people with stacks of diamond, obsidian etc and so far I've only collected a single diamond. I have yet to venture to probably 90% of the world. In my first attempt at building a world I had ventured too far and lost the house/mine I had built into the side of a mountain. Any newbie tips that could be offered will be much appreciated. At this point all I do is go mining into the caves beneath my little home and get my ass kicked by the never ending spawn of skeletons,creepers and zombies. Is this a dungeon, or just a cave? Haven't found a chest or anything of that nature...again any advice/help would be most appreciated.

Keep in mind alot of the videos on youtube are from the pc version. Even without mods there are alot of things not available on the xbox version yet.

You gotta make some armor and a sword. In the beginning once it gets dark you're better off just sleeping til daytime.
