How To Buy Back Issues?

Lets say that I want to read some old comics starting at the beginning. I will just throw a comic out there. Lets say that I want to start at the beginning of Daredevil. What is the best way to buy these? TPB? Best I can tell, tpb's are 10 issues at a time. For some of the older stuff, this could still get expensive. What is the least expensive way to buy this old comics? I see pictures of collections online of peoples books but I am not sure what the editions are called. Thanks.

Honestly, as far as collections go, there's really a lot of different ways to go. Trade paperbacks do usually offer an easier way of reading the issues, however sometimes they don't include all issues, or skip issues in-between arcs, or sometimes they just skip an arc all together. Also, depends on how important cover art is to you, as some don't include those in the book.

Issues are nice, but much harder and sometimes more expensive to collect, but typically add more sentimental value to them as the journey to complete your collection is half the fun. Going online is tough honestly, and Ebay and Amazon, sometimes you never know what condition they're in, but they usually offer "lots" of series. Lot's are typically a single arc or more ranging from 3-100 issues of a specific series. I recently found a lot of the new Justice League issues 1-12 online in auction. However, tracking down most back issues requires a lot of work and time. Whenever I go out of town, I always look up comic shop locations to stop at, keep an eye out for conventions which a lot of states are now getting.

So while trade paperbacks are much easier to collect, and usually less expensive, it all depends on your tastes, and whether or not you have the time and money to track down issues. Now once you've made up your mind on which you'd like to collect, then I can give you some more detailed info on how to go about tracking that stuff down.

Make sure you check eBay!  I've been finding that comic stores/collectors have been bundling the single-issue-printings of story arcs and selling them as a set, and they can often go for cheaper than the TPB's and sometimes even cheaper than $1/issue, even with shipping.  Usually with eBay I only buy when the pictures of the actual comics-in-possession are used, but usually I'm only buying comics to read so I mainly only care that their condition is good enough that I can read and appreciate the art.
