Headphones and sound card help..

I just built my gaming pc and Im presently using the onboard sound from my Asus Sabertooth 990FX with Astro A50 headphones. I'm looking to upgrade my headphones and adding a sound card , I'm looking at the Beyerdynamics DT880 premium 250 ohms with Asus Xonar Phoebues ROG sound card. I would like to know what you are using in your set up and what you would suggest . Thanks for the help.

Knight iam sure will have the best input as hes a music abd sound guy, Iam slightly tone def hence why iam not a famous musician :)

My system came with onboard beats audi 7.1, not knowing much about sound tech i assumed onboard would be mediocre so i bout a Asus DGX xonar and a set of corsair 1400.

The head is decent for $90 an upgrade from my coolermaster set but again theres much better available at a higher price.  as for the DGX soundcard i wasnt very impressed and had alot of issues with settings defaulting, weird noise feedback and a hell of a time trying to get the sound and mic to work togeather.  I finally uninstalled it and tested my beats onboard and found the sound to be better, louder and everything working properly so iam just gonna stick with it.  Ill use the soundcard again when i purchase my buttkicker simulator set with simvibe and hopefully get everything sorted.

As for suggestions ive heard the soundblaster cards have gotten good reviews

It it really depends on what you are looking for from your sound, but here are my thoughts, Creative Labs (Soundblaster) Have been in the game forever, their range of cards goes from cheap and cheerful to quite high quality. For a predominantly gaming set up I would recommend them. I would go for an external one, the inside of a computer is a very unfriendly place for sound. But I am old school and I guess the internals have got decent shielding. The more you spend the better you get, simple as. With Creative Labs you have the comfort of knowing you are going to get absolute plug and play install and forget. Are they the very best? the answer may be no, but are they the very best gaming choice? There I think the answer may be yes for the simple reason you will never get a driver issue.

Having said all that your choice is a good one at the budget end, but there have been some reports of driver issues, it seems well shielded...Budget? I hear you say...Well yeah, these are gaming cards and compared to what I have in my studio it is budget, but would I want to use that system for games? No way, I doubt one game would use the same drivers.

Headphone, once again good choice, but one proviso 250 ohms! Make sure the card will drive them and be aware they will not work with things like iPods. Good to see you are not tempted by the surround sound phones out there, I was and have to say it was not money well spent...

So for the 2 cent their worth, those were my thoughts :)
