GW2 Thoughts?

Hey everyone,

So I've been on the fence about whether or not to give Guild Wars 2 a go. How has everyone been enjoying it? Does it have staying power? Since the wife and I had our little one, I've found it hard to devote too much time to mmos, so the lack of subscription costs appeals to me, but would I be at a significant disadvantage with less available play time?

I played a bit of the original and enjoyed it, but just never found good people to play with.

Overall, is it worth the price of admission? :)

I've been enjoying the time I've spent in it so far.  I haven't been able to do anything with any guildmates yet, so it's been all solo play so far (6-7 hours this weekend).  In addition to storyline, there are a lot of dynamic events that take place throughout the world, that draw in a lot of nearby people for a co-operative beat down.  It's nice in the fact you can gain some support from others, even if nobody you know is online (particularly handy if you don't have a melee based character such as an elementalist).

I actually bought Diablo3 earlier this week.....but I haven't been able to pick it up since GW2 early-released (and it's been cutting into my seat time for race sims).

I agree with Sherb on the Guildy part.  With so many people playing the game and the world being so incredibly massive there it is kind of hard to group up with others.  I'm sure this will change once everyone gets settled with using mumble chat and playing a bit more.  In terms of gameplay I'm %100 addicted.  I'm not sure it has the staying power of games like WoW in terms of PvE, but the PvP is unbelievably solid.  There is no question that without a sub the game is worth every penny.

With as busy as it is already.....just think.....it hasn't even hit official release yet (tonight).  surprise

I'm usually in an overflow server for the first 2-5 minutes when I finally get transfered to the main host.

I think all I've done so far is PvE (player vs environment?).  I'll need to try to get Mumble working.....I tried to set it up, but not sure if I set it up right as it said the channel had been shut down by host.  That was sometime Saturday afternoon.

I haven't played any PvP or WvW yet but I have been having a blast with PvE in the game so far.

I would say that it is solid fun...for now.  As with all of these MMO's what happens at level cap?  That will be the key for everyone of course.  I haven't tried any WvWvW PVP or any PVP for that matter.  I like some PVP, but it would have to be pretty awesome to hold my interest.  As for the leveling process, it's very fun.  So much to explore, and do.  Always some kind of world event near by, and lots of people to help with group events.  The crafting is a little confusing to me at first, but I think I have a handle on it now.  I'd say it's definitely worth $60 at least.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

I think I'm going to need to give this a shot, as I've been lacking my mmo fix recently.

I don't think you can lose right now with Guild Wars 2.  We have a ton of people playing it from the site.  Plus the servers are packed.  So you'll never have an issue grouping up.  After the initial purchase, the game costs you nothing.  Sure there is some things that make the game easier that you can buy, but they are not necessary.

I still need to get into PvP and WvWvW.  That's a HUGE portion of the game that I haven't had the time to even try.

I'm thinking the WvW is where the whole Guild system is really going to congeal.  I want to get home from work NOW so I can go screw around with it somemore.  Just started to tap the crafting side by beginning to gather items.  It's addictive.  186

And keep in mind, this is coming from a non-MMO player.  Most of my time is spent behind the wheel of race sims.

I'd like to run a guild night of just WvW soon.  Take a break from leveling.  Also, you guys need to get on mumble.

Fired Mumble up last night.....but didn't see 2old2play in the list.  Under the US banner, right?

I always up for WvW and I'm on Mumble, although I wasn't on mumble last night cause I only played for an hour or so.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, it was much appreciated.

I pulled the trigger yeserday and gave it a go, and I'm glad I did! Looks like it should scratch that mmorpg itch just fine! Ran around last night on a mesmer and the dynamic questing was a nice cange from the usual. Going to have to try more classes to find which one suits me most. Then I'll need to look you guys up next.

16  Glad you enjoy it, I know I do.  It's been putting a serious impact on my seat time though.  blush
