Ghost Recon Online Beta ( PC )

Just got in at the start today, with an upgraded internet speed and have to say , first impressions are pretty good.

It'sa free to play, but can pay to upgrade deal, so I'm sure it will go to shit pretty quickly, but the abilities are fun and the maps and pace really get you dashing to cover, peek and dash again.

is this the pc version of the 360 beta for the game? i really like the iron sight aim but the 3rd person moving around imo its the best of both worlds (3ps and fps) mechanics. is this a option you choose or is this default for everyone?

It's the PC version.

As far as I'm aware, the 360 is not getting this, but Ghost Future Soldier instead.

3rd person view is default but you click your trigger / right hand mouse button for aim down sights.

I must say, as a useless PC gamer, I find the controls quite intuitive.

It's standard WSAD configuration, but with a ton of customisable key bindings.

The enter cover mechanic, the prone and slide and the climb are all seamless and flow well being just one key each.

The best part is..., because Timmy is busy with MW3 and BF3, there are less snipers, and plenty of scope for avoiding Campy Mc Camperson.

Capturing each point add's time to the clock. If you don't advance and try to farm kills, you run out of time and lose.

I think its a well thought out game style.

Yeah, these are two totally different games (with Ghost Recon Online being a PC-exclusive).

Originally, it was reported that Ghost Recon Online would replace the PC version of Future Soldier because of piracy; however, Ghost Recon Future Soldier will be on all three platforms (360, PS3, PC).

Hmmmm.  Might have to try this out at some point in the future.  I am not a fan of the console Ghost Recons to this point but will try anything that is F2P.

Back on it again...and really enjoying it still.

The game mechanic still impresses.

I was, ( as usual ) with random team mates against a team who all went recon.

They lost the match in under three minutes ( an average game is about 10 - 15 mins. ).

Unlike Battlefield, where communication is vital, as long as you stick close, not much  needs to be said.

Unlike COD, the pace isn't so frantic that if you're being cautious, you shouldn't get taken out by a dual wielding run n gun'er.

I think it stands up as an " old man's game ". GRAW was the game that made me buy an xbox, and this kind of takes me back to the early years when people were generally friendly and I had FUN playing.

Hey Frosty do you still have any keys left - if so I'd love one.  Thanks so much either way.

It's in your inbox Kamakaze.  The closed beta server is back up, so you'll be able to play as soon as you're client is updated.

It's not a bad game. Every match I've been in has been mostly recons, so it's a little frustrating when everyone else is camping. The controlls all feel good, moving in and out of cover is very fluid. Just have to hope they don't screw up the cash shop and we'll see what happens when the hackers get their whack at it. It's always one or both of those things that kills every f2p game.

Yeah Taco, this latest BETA with more keys has increased the recon / sniper count something drastic.

There are also some changes that don't help, like the shallow depth of field when in cover, giving recon even more advantages.

It could be a great game. The core " team " game is there, but recon and selfish play needs to be punished, not rewarded.

Stats don't help.

Unlocks....hmmmmm, that's the business model so we're stuck with  it.

My proposal for recon was that the sniper rifles don't unlock until a higher level, say 5.

That way, they have to use the smg role, and possibly be productive AND discover another way to play an fps.

Sure, when they hit 5, they can go back to being camping, k/d obsessed bitches, but maybe a few will have been converted on the way ?

I'm not too worried about all the recons. Stuff like that usually winds up getting nerfed and adjusted. Besides, this game is just a place holder til Future Soldier comes out. I just hope they don't devote too many resources to this and FS doesn't get updated and worked on quickly.
