Thoughts on Sony's E3 Presentation?

I thought it was pretty damn solid.

The focus they're putting into the Vita and PS3 cross-platform play is good -- Glad to see them moving in that direction.

The new Assassin's Creed game for the Vita looks interesting but the new AC3 footage demoed looks outstanding.  I can't wait to have a gunship battle in the ocean in that game.  smiley

Beyond looks outstanding.  The facial expressions and detail were great.  I can't wait to play that.

Last of Us looks intense.  I hope what was demoed is a good representation of what the final product will be.  Gameplay looks pretty loose regarding ways you can take out enemies.

God of War 4 looks like God of  War.  About what was expected.

That Book of Spells stuff looks like it'll be popular with kids.  Only makes sense they take the AR functionality from the Vita and copy it over to the PS3.

After three games AC is getting kinda old, ship stuff looked neat but also looks like control is gonna be a hassle.

Farcry 3 with 4 player co-op *yawn*

God of War more of the same

Wonderbook = FAIL, seriously Harry Potter is so 5 years ago, it's Hunger Games and Twilight now. Sad really cause SOE does the best stuff with the Eye integration but nobody seems to care.

Last of Us looks like Uncharted and I really have no interest in it

As for taking the AR from the VIta ? Eye Of Judgement would like a word with you

The PS1 and PSP catalogue on the VIta was a very smart move

All in all this E3 is a snoozefest

I was laughing at Tukker's picture, not your reaction.  laugh

I thought the games Sony showed were pretty cool.  M$ seems way to focused on living room and Kinect content and not-so-much with games...although the Spinter Cell demo voice commands make me long for the old SOCOM 2 voice commands.  Those worked really well 10 years ago and I'm not sure why Sony dropped it.

The Wii U looked impressive.  They out-Microsoft'd Microsoft with their version of "SmartGlass".  Rather than have a 360 Controller, a Kinect, and an iPad or cell phone on your lap for the extra SmartGlass content of games, you have one controller that has a built-in touchpad so you don't have to take yourself out of the game to use it.  The way they used it with Pikmin looked great and even the Donkey Kong kart navigation/maze thing looked good.  It'll be interesting to see the pricing on it.

This E3 has been pretty much all UBI Soft.

Don't expect the Wii-U for anything less then $300 - $350 even then they'll take a bath on it, at least you can get two tablets running on it now vs only one prior. There's also talk about if those tablets are going to be available at retail or not.

Binary Domain uses voice commands, as did Tom Clany's End War

Beyond and The Last of Us were among the best games shown, along with the new South Park RPG and Ubisoft's Watch Dog.  Can't wait for those games to come out.  I should probably add Halo 4 to that list (and their weekly episodic co-op DLC), but I was already anticipating that one before E3.

I'm looking forward to more cross play between Vita and PS3, and I'm interested in how similar the Enhanced Controller functionality will be to how the Wii U handles it.

If the Wii U comes out at around 300, I'm interested.  But with Smart Glass and Sony's cross play, I doubt I'll see the need for Nintendo's offering if it's closer to 400.

I thought Sony had the better showing of the 3 just because of the games, but I'm interested in the Wii U.  Not giving a price kinda put a damper on Nintendo's show for me.  Ubisoft has had the strongest show of everyone so far, IMO.

Don't forget all this cross-play and dual controls were promised for the PSP and failed to materialize, as far as games for the PS3 what did we see ? Like 4 Sony titles, everything else was third party aka Ubi Soft coming out for all platforms.

They failed to show Vita titles which they REALLY needed to focus on.

MS showed some pretty trailers but with the exception of Halo 4 it was all Kinnect crap and apps, who the hell cares about fucking apps at GAME trade show

Nintendo came out strongest showing titles but did little to follow them up. At least the hardware is beefed up.

Bear in mind I'm talking about the Press Conferences only as that what the world pays attention to, the floor is completely different

I'm down with Krato's for life, Last of Us looks brutal and gritty so I'm looking forward to that.   All in all I would say Sony did not wow me, but they did go along way to showing they get what a gamer really wants in the end.  Which is more games.    Vita doesn't interest me at all.  Big budget games they are trying to push on it I would rather play on my big screen.

Microsoft once again proved that my decision to build a gaming pc recently was a smart one.   You have Halo 4, Gears and CoD.  CoD is multiplat but to me it's a 360 exclusive in most regards.   MS really has no interest in building there own gaming identity and are content to keep there machine centered on 3rd party development.   Nothing wrong with that but my PC does the same thing with more freedom and less nickle and diming.

I admit I want a Wii U but it's something I will wait to purchase for a while until I see how Nintendo handles it.   Once the Mario Galaxies and Zelda's are released I'll probably grab one but I have no interest in playing ports of games with touch screen menu's tacked on.  Which is what your going to see for the first year or two.    I am hoping for a 3DS revision with a larger screen or a second circle pad.

I know nobody else cares but MADDEN IS GETTING REAL TIME PHYSICS!!!!!!!!   This whole generation with those canned animation's dictating plays is over.   No more Payton Manning stiff arming a d tackle bullshit .

I liked the Last of Us trailer but seems kinda scripted compared to something like Arma 2 DayZ zombie mod.

I didn't see a reason why the Dad/Guy had to fight and kill all the bad guys - why was there no option just to go in with stealth and Steal their stuff and run away instead of having to always fight?

just kind of a more detailed Left 4 dead clone if it's that way.

Kinda bad how they turned Dead Space into Gears of War.

Probably most looking forward to Borderlands 2.

and whatever Respawn (the real Infinity ward) puts out in 2013.

I'm going to shock a whole bunch of folks here and say it was a huge win for Sony.

contrary to peoples thoughts on the whole idea of Harry Potter, I actually liked the concept behind the Wonderbook. I'd seen the previews a while back for "Pottermore" (the website) but this brings that more into a tangible concept.

The demo didn't go so well for them, but the gist was there, and I think for the true fans this will be a great addition to the library.

Beyond will be a huge hit I'm sure, The Last of Us is a no brainer...

Vita integrations with PS+ and crossplay / cross control in the near future...

the PS+ Plus enhancements alone made this a win in my eyes.

the rest is all just butter.

Wonderbook is far from complete as this point as evidenced by the demo. I love the tech but it'll bomb, nobody seems to dig AR beyond a gimmick which is a shame as I think it's really cool.

As I mentioned earlier is Harry Potter even a "thing" anymore now that the movies are over and the audience has moved on and certainly aren't the target audience ?

SOE did the Eye Toy 1&2 which was cool for it's time (pre Wii) sold decently in EUR but bombed here.

I don't think they are the target audience any more.  They're too old.  It's like Star Wars.  We're not the target audience any more even though we grew up seeing every single movie in the theater.  If they came out with a Lucasfilm-branded Wonderbook thing...are they targeting us?  No way.  They're targeting kids.  The Potter stuff is just to get the parents to buy them.

I dunno, I will still pick up a HP book down the road again I'm sure.

and this book of wonders would be great for the younger crowd to keep them into it.

JK Rowling doesn't want HP fandom to die, so that's the idea behind Pottermore and Wonderbook.

Anyway, as for the AR games, I really dig them, except for the lack of them...

Have you tried that desktop tank game?  Is it any good?  (or is it even out?)

Haven't seen hide or hair of the tank game.

Rowling could less what you do with her name so long as she's paid.

This E3 was a snore fest because everything that was annonuced we had already seen with the exception of a few titles, ok we hadn't seen Wii-U games but it wasn't that much of a stretch to imagine what titles we would see. There were maybe two surprises Watch Dogs being one but expect that one to vanish till new consoles come out.

i saw the trailer for it, I think it's cool

There are a few (i use "few" lightly) games out there like this on your average smart phone or other mobile device.

I'll be interested in seeing where this title (Table Top Tanks) goes.

I thought the Sony conference was good. It was good enough to get me playing the PS3 again right away and even my wife had an interest in their presentation.  The WiiU looks good but for some reason I doubt I will get it.  Microsoft was meh. Too bad since I play that the most (to this point anyways).

As for UbiSoft, they had a good presentation except for the host; she annoyed the heck out of me. EA's was lame.

Since E3, my PS3 has been getting a workout.
