Running Win 8 for a couple weeks my experience so far.

I had the Windows 8 upgrade code from a while ago when it was 40 bucks, so upon hearing about BF4 DX11.1/11.2 compatibility I went ahead and took the plunge.  My experience so far has been I'm happy to say basically worry free.  Upgrade from Windows 7 is pretty seamless but I do suggest simply backing everything up and doing a fresh install.  Main reason is even though it will transfer all programs and settings not all programs jive that well with 8.  Main issues I had were the Asus Xonar sound card program and my overclocking/water cooling utility.  It was a simple fix by telling windows 8 to refresh my system which dumped all the programs I had installed and allowed me to reload only the essential programs I needed.  This resulted in a noticeable improvement in speed.  Mainly because a lot of the bloat I had built up over time was now gone.  Since I run a SSD main drive for Windows and a normal harddrive for games/programs it was a simple thing to reload steam and other game services then point them at the installed files on my F drive.  Most drivers were native or easily found on various websites so I had no issues at all in that aspect.   Main issue I think folks will deal with is if they can stomach the metro UI or not.  I found that most peoples beef with it is simply because it leans a bit to much towards touch controls.  Actually this OS is very simple and quick to navigate and I found that the Metro interface is extremely useful for me especially since my pc is basically a home entertainment/gaming machine only.  I simply put the games and commonly used programs on the metro start page with in easy reach and the rest sit in the background out of site unless needed.  As to games so far I have had no issues running anything that I was running under 7.  Running older games under the various compatibity modes was a snap so I see no reason for folks to be scared of the change unless they simply don't want to spend the dough.  That being said if you try to upgrade to 8.1 from Windows 7 or later your going to pay a good amount more then if you buy the upgrade for Windows 8 now and get the 8.1 enhancements for free.   Just a heads up.  Sorry about no paragraphs.  For some reason this site will not allow me to seperate them.

I've been doing the 8.1 preview and it's an improvement from 8. If you still have the option, I highly recommend you try it too.

Idk, I may have to upgrade as well, though I was not really wanting to.  The beginning of the attached does a comparison of running the BF4 beta on Windows 7 and 8 and he references how much improvement Windows 8 is over 7 in the performance of the game.   I just wish I had purchased it when it was $40.

P.S. The video is long and only the first few minutes discusses the difference of the two operating systems.

I am kicking myself now for not picking it up. I spent a bit of time with Windows 8 on a friends PC this weekend and it isn't that bad.
