Rebuild time!

After seeing all the new PC games coming out and my lack of enthusiasm for the next generation of consoles, I decided to a budget rebuild. Although I spend a great deal of time at my PC and truly enjoy gaming on it, I just couldn't justify spending more than $500. Here is what I ordered.

Intel Core i5-4670K Haswell 3.4GHz LGA 1150 84W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics BX80646I54670K

ASRock Z87 Extreme6 LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR

XIGMATEK Gaia SD1283 120mm Long Life Bearing CPU Cooler LGA1150 Haswell Compatible

XIGMATEK PTI-G4512 thermal grease with gold grade thermal matrix filler particles

Microsoft Windows 8 64-bit (Full Version) - OEM

Total cost: $544. A little over budget, oh well.

After finishing putting it all together yesterday and firing it up, all I can say is "wow". Apparently the old q6600 I was running was really bottlenecking my video card(HD 5780) and system in general. On Battlefield 3, using the same video card, FPS just from mid 20's on ultra settings to around 40.

My goal was to sell my Xbox and to buy a decent video card with the money. Unfortunately It sold for considerably less than expected, $200. After looking at benchmarks, I decided to get a GTX 760 instead of a 770. Why? For single monitor 1080P gaming, the GTX 760 can handle pretty much anything you throw at it. At $250, it was rated highly by just about every site I checked. It should arrive by the 4th, can't wait!

We really need to get a game night going. I'm down for anything.

Oh, and Windows 8 blows.

Decided to go ahead and get a GTX 770. I'm sending the 760 back. What the hell, you only live once.

If I had the money and didn't give a shit about price vs performance I'd get the 780. Basically a slightly stripped down titan with 3gigs of ram

vs 6 on the titan. Same gk110 processor vs gk104 for 770 and below. Actually 770 is a over clocked 680 with higher memory bandwidth and better power consumption. Same for 760 which is 670 roided  out as well. Both cards will kick ass for 1080p regardless. My worry is frame buffer I .

I played around with the 770 last night and wow, it just crushes everything. Metro, Crysis, Warhead, all destroyed. What's funny is at the same time Microsoft announced DirectX 11.2, thus making my card already obsolete. However, DX11.2 is only available on Xbox One and Windows 8.1, so I doubt any developers are going to be using it any time soon.

Yea put my 770 in a week or so ago and I'm amazed by how well it performs as long as you keep it cool.  I didn't go reference card since you can't even buy them in the US so I purchased a Gigabyte Windforce edition.  Thing is long as fuck with 3 fans on it but it's quiet and keeps my gpu nice and cool.   At one point I was boosted to 1250mhz without having to alter any settings which I'm sure if I wanted  I could push it a lot further.   I think I'm set for next gen when it comes to third party software.  As to the console's on the horizon I can't see me buying either for at least a year or 2 if I can stay diciplined until the exclusives ramp up.  Then it's PS4 (No bia's just like Sony's choices when it comes to software more) and a Xbone further down the road when it get's a price drop or different hopefully cheaper sku.
