Razor release's free software that turns any headset into 7.1 virtual surround.

I just tried it with my AD700's and it works.  Though I bet you'll need to tweek it a bit.  Still this is a good deal if you simply have some old stereo headphones and want some posistional audio.  Here's the link www.razerone.com/surround

I have a pair of Razer Megalodons and the virtual 7.1 is horrible. Does it sound really hallow and have a strange echo?

I didn't think so but you have to understand that no virtual solution is ever going to give you that sense of space that a true multispeaker surround setup will give.   Like my Astro mix amp it works well for things behind you but anything up front sort of blends together.   Still it's free and after I tweaked it a bit it sounded pretty damn good.  Not sure what type of performance hit you'll get though.
