PS4 Mandatory Installs

http://www.shacknews.com/article/81815/disc-based-ps4-games-are-playable-during-installation

Sony has confirmed that every game requires an installation, including games purchased at retail. The mandatory installation requirement is similar to Xbox One.

A new FAQ reveals that, "all PS4 Blu-ray Disc games must be cached to the hard drive to ensure a smooth gaming experience. However, certain titles may not require you to wait for the game data to be fully cached before starting gameplay. In order to start playing disc-based games, users will need to insert the game disc into PS4 just like on the PS3 system."

I figure it will be like most titles now, just bigger.

If these games require huge installs, like Killzone for example (45 GB), than I'm definitely going to have to look into getting a bigger HDD; otherwise your going to fill up 500 GB real fast

Yeah. I'll probably be reinstalling games .  However I may not. I often usually stick with 1 or 2 games. Shouldn't be a huge deal, but I'll be upgrading that hd to a terabyte I'm sure. The cool thing I like about it is how easy it is to do.

I'm holding off on getting a new HDD until people do comparisons with normal HDD and SSHD (hybrid SSD drives)

Twitch has a hybrid in his ps3 and was happy with the results. Hopefully he stumbles in here and can give you more detail.

I put a small ssd in my ps3 for a quick test and the speed was better but not worth the loss of capacity.

It only helps with reads not writes from what I saw in other articles.  I know it fixed the RAGE texture pop-in issues and sped up Gran Turismo loads by quite a bit.

Pretty sure he would echo the GT load times.

Too bad it's only SATA II.  Missed opportunity to go with SATA III and the 6.0Gbps transfer rate.  Especially swapping into and out of GDDR5 memory.
