signed up last year but no key so far.

If anybody got into the beta, please sign up with the 24 digit code to the SOE planetside beta forum as well.

the Devs said they will start a buddy key system so whoever is in the Beta now, if they sign up in the beta forum as well, will get a 2nd beta game key to give to a friend.

if anyone has an extra key now they want to donate, please PM me.

I'm curious what's going to happen now that SOE was sold and is now known as Daybreak Game Company.

most likely older less profitable games will be shut down,  more popular games like h1z1, everquest, planetside will no longer be PS exclusives and have versions for xBone.

likely some fat trimming to eek out bigger profit$$$ so some of the developers may leave for other studios and game quality may suffer.

But sony is bleeding money so it really didn't have a choice.

They are but not the games division (along with their credit services and maybe optics), that's profitable from what I recall. The tv/phone and movie segments are dragging the rest of the company down. SOE was kinda an outlier of Sony anyway. I don't think they where even part of the world wide studios until recently.

I was able to get lucky and get a beta key from a Dev on a twitch stream.

Impressions -

Definitely a beta with lots of bugs, freezes, and crashes and features that don't quite work.

It feels mostly like battlefield with some features of CCP's dust 514 space FPS.

There are 6 character classes, both land and air vehicles, a squad system, and plays like a never ending game of Battlefield conquest where each of the 3 factions fight over Base control points.  Unlike Battlefield,  Bases mostly pretty far apart and you need to use transport to get from A to B.  There are no game "modes", it's just one endliess series of battles.

Each base has 1-3 capture points and various sub-features like generators, terminals, teleporters, fixed gun turrets, gravity "tubes", etc.

You cannot spawn on team mates, you can only spawn on your home base "warpgate", any captured base points,  and 1 speciifc type of land transport vehicle and 1 type of air transport vehicle.

Unlike Battlefield,  you don't direclty unlock new gear or attachments by getting kills or leveling up.  Instead you get regular experience point XP for geting kills and doing in-game stuff like base captures, medic heals/revives, engineer repairs, etc.  Each 250xp = 1 cert point.  You use these Cert Points to buy your gear unlocks.  In the PC game,  you can also pay real life cash to get Station Points to buy unlocks, this is how SOE financed the free-to-play mechanic.  I'm sure Sony/Daybreak will add on the pay-to-play feature in some way once they go live with the final verison.

Right now, Beta server has limited hours - like 3pm -9pm PST during weekdays and 3pm Friday through 9pm sunday non-stop on the weekends.

Sony are giving the closed beta keys away in small batches to those that signed up on their ps2 for ps4 beta website.  Many many people signed up, including me, last year and very few people were lucky enough to get keys so my guess is beta server population is about 2000-4000 players at once.  Many bases are ghost towns so they really need to start giving out more beta keys, which they said they will do but only in small batches to not overload their beta servers.  Right now, open to US psn accounts only.  Canada and Mexico PSN accounts will be able to play if they have a key on Feb. 10.  No word yet on when EU accounts will have access.

They will eventually make it an open beta and when they do, i recommend everyone give it a try because it is free to play.

It is most like Battlefield with vehicles and long breaks to travel between fights, so it won't be for those who like constant high speed action.
