Hello.

I originally posted this in the Playstation forum looking for help. I didn't know you could just join groups like this on the new site. Any help would be appreciated. I'm a NEWCOMER to PC gaming. Here goes.

I know this is in the wrong section, but I'm hoping BlowMonkey will see this or anyone who can help me out. With loving Guardians of Middle Earth so much I decided on trying a PC MOBA. First I thought League of Legends, but DOTA 2 won out. Playing with friends with bots seems like the way to go for me. I also bought Frozen Synapse Blow. Here is my issue,I never played on PC before this past weekend. I'm having trouble with the whole movement with the keyboard. I have looked at videos on the Razer Nostromo and SteelSeries Merc gaming keyboard. Is it something that will come with time or should I invest in something that may make it easier? If anyone can help me out with some tips/advice please help. Thanks.

I owned the nostromo and tried other gimmik keyboards and finally just returned to a cheap wireless keyboard.  Stick to the WASD control scheme and then customize your layout to suit your playstyle.  It doesn't take as long as you think for you to assimilate to using it.  Maybe pick up a cheap single player RTS like Company of Heroes or something so you aren't stumbling around so much when playign with friends?   Regardless if you ever want a partner for DOTA let me know since I'm dying to learn how to play it but the learning curve has been so far out of my reach I have avoided it.

I have a Microsoft Sidewinder gaming keyboard which is pretty economical compared to many out there but I just can't think of how it would be advantageous on a MOBA.  I just don't think I have an advantage on most games with this keyboard unless I want to use micros although my old keyboard was quite cheap and clunky so it was a big improvement over that.   Most of the quick response keystrokes will be on QWER for DOTA 2 or League of Legends.   I think that the addition of a good gaming mouse is much more important for many game types than having a gaming keyboard.   A lot of gaming mouses have programmable buttons that you can assign keystrokes to which can be very useful in FPS's, RPG's and RTS's.   This might also be good for getting the flying donkey to bring you some goods without taking your fingers off the main keys.

Also, I have been playing a little DOTA 2 myself although I am not very good at it.  It would be nice to get a few together to play.   I also play a little league of legends.

Thanks for the replys. Now that I look over my op I think I phrased it wrong. I'm having a hard time with the moving of the camera and the movement of my character with the mouse. The default movement is holding the scroll wheel so I changed it to pan mode. Mr402,COH was actually my first purchase on Steam. You are right though with practicing on the movement on that game first. I'm digging my first attempt at pc gaming. I just hope I get used to any set-up soon.

Cardiac and Mr402 add me on Steam if you like and maybe we can play some Dota 2 together. I convinced another friend from this site to get it and we usually play against bots and its pretty fun learning the ropes. The learning curve is steep, but it has been fun taking my lumps from the AI rather than the public. If you don't mind playing with 2 total noobs just let me know.

Thanks again for the replys.

I really had a problem with the default camera in DOTA 2 as well.  I do have it so that I pan with the mouse and it is also helpful now that I now that I can double click on my character portrait to automatically center the camera on my character.  This does sacrifice some field of view a little but you can quickly undo it by panning off the screen or clicking on the minimap or anywhere on the HUD at the bottom.

Also, if you give me your Steam ID, I will add you.  You can see mine listed below my avatar.
