I never got into MLG in Reach. Even after the update it just felt stale. They tried to hard to make it like H2 and they use custom maps like the Pit and Sanctuary that where downgrades from the originals. How lazy is it to make custom map that have already be done.

That's also the problem: the stock maps in Reach are pretty much bad.

I feel differently, I like every stock map except Boardwalk. Countdown and Sword Base are my favorites.

And, in my estimation, you just named possibly the worst mdeium sized map in any Halo game (Sword Base).  Sometimes it feels like we're not even playing the same game.

A lot of the maps are not symetrical and do not play well in MLG or even semi competitive games.  What makes them good is an equal amount of time getting to power weapons.  A great example is Powerhouse, or even default Sword base spawns.

The power weapons should be equidistant from each team for a competitve environment.  As it is now (default spawns on default maps) it is definitely not balanced.  Powerhouse rockets/sniper area is another prime example.

No, the entire map is horrible (In Dixon's opinion which he thinks should be most other peoples opinion. Edited by LB..).  Sword Base has no redeeming characteristics, and Powerhouse, although much better and more open than Sword Base, is still pretty crappy.

Thankfully all of our opinions on maps are equally acceptable.wink

Some MLG banter from u4iX and others on NeoGAF. There are other comments at the link.

I am certainly not alone in wondering about Halo competitions without MLG.

The next best league for Halo is probably IPL.

However, the split in Reach's own competitive settings certainly don't help at all either. MLG, CGL, Arena Gaming, TLN, GoldPro, and anyone else who thinks their competitive settings are "better" because their run speed is on 125% instead of 110% only further divides the user base.

I think if multiple leagues pick up Halo 4, the competitive settings have to be standard.

What would be cool, is if 343i hosted the first widespread tournament for Halo with input from competitive communities (not the competitive leagues mind you) on what default gametypes would pair best with the default maps.

Then, 343i hosts the first tournament with widespread coverage on the XBL dashboard, in game notification, and directed users to where they could watch this competitive tournament on default settings.

This would then exemplify to all communities that the game doesn't need to be tweaked to hold competitive viability.
