Vast Majority of Halo 4 maps will be NEW.

As per Frank O'connor (OuterWorldVoice).

The vast majority of ALL Halo 4 maps will be new.

I think this is very good news. I also believe this refers to future Halo 4 DLC.

I am tired of the old word battles over which version of a map was best while we wallowed in essentially old content.

That being said, what 1 or 2 map/maps would you pick for a remake?

Since this can be a contentious subject, I'll be watching it.smiley

My MM experience comes from H3 (and Reach), so I would have to pick: The Pit and Valhalla for two maps I'd love to see return.

The Pit is such a good 4v4 map. Valhalla becuase it could encompass many large and small game types and as a Warthog driver, it was so much fun to drive. Reach basically has no good hog maps. Scratch that, the hog in Reach is so weak, it's hard to get a good run going.

343i has had plenty of time to design new maps for H4, so there is no excuse for us not having a lot of original content.

My choices.

1st Valhalla. I loved this colourful big team map. Good for vehicles of all types.

2nd Last Resort. I'm a sucker for asymmetrical BTB maps with easier callouts.

I am so glad that it will be new maps.  I love playing the remakes of the classics, but I can't wait for a NEW classic!!!

Are there any Reach maps that you'd want to toss into the mix? I honestly have a hard time remembering them.  Maybe Countdown?  The bottom half of Zealot?

Rembering 343i's creed for selecting remakes for CEA's map pack, I doubt we'll see anything from Halo3 or REACH. Even though I may choose some of them, it's wasted wishing.

In fact I don't know how they are going to justify anything currently playable on XBLive. We should be looking at Halo 1 and 2 maps that have not been remade.

Maybe one or two of Containment, Waterworks, Burial Mounds, Terminal and Relic.

Anything easy to make in the new Forge will NOT be remade, in my opinion.

Reading that list makes me want to puke.  It's either that or this stomach flu that's sidelined me all week long so far.  I didn't mind Burial Mounds so much, though.  Now, for competitive play, I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

Agreed. These are all bigger maps but those are the ones Forge will have a tough time with. Unless Forge is a totally new beast that exceeds all expectations.

I feel like I walked into a thread full of crazy.

We'll get the standard 10-12 maps on launch hopefully. I really think Reach was a cop out with Forgeworld, yeah it was nice and all but the screen lag issues or whatever was wrong with most of the maps made there kinda killed a lot of that right?

anywho, it really depends on what type of game we get whether or not the remade maps will work. Halo 2 maps worked well with 3 because they were essentially the same game. No fall damage, similar weapon sandbox, only equipment was the real new gameplay thing. Most of the H1 maps released for H2 and then subsequently for 3 didn't work well because h1 was designed with fall damage in mind, you take that away and you ruin what was an essential part of the H1 gameplay.

I haven't played most of the h1 maps brought to Reach, how do they play? I imagine again, not really 'right' because of the AAs, take em away and I assume they feel like they would in H1.

All that being said, I'd like 9 or so new ones, a few spiritual successors (think Lockout --> Guardian or Blood Gulch --> Valhalla), a forge-y one, and a remake.

Really just want good design all around though. I'm going to keep posting it, reach was a great sandbox ruined by poor map design which was caused by the introduction of AAs.

Honestly, there are not any Reach maps I will care to see in H4. Once H4 arrives, I do not think I will miss Reach at all.

I just want good maps - remakes or new - I want quality maps that inspire people to play.

I don't want maps from Reach remade, and I don't want maps that have been remade over and over again.  I would like some older maps that haven't been remade yet such as Terminal, Relic, The Pit, Standoff, Guardian, etc.

Seriously though, just remake all of them, (H1-H3) throw them on a big DLC disc/download and charge $39.99 for it (similar to the map pack disc of Halo 2).  50+ maps for under a buck a piece how can you go wrong?  Backwash here I come! :)

The problem with that is they're spending valuable resource time not giving us the next awesome maps.

Fun! Jonny knows about fun. smiley

I do not know how competitive the map was or could be, but 2old2pwn loved playing on this map. Frequently silly games.

Backwash has not been remade yet or playable on XBLive and so, is very likely a strong candidate for Halo 4. It just might make a great showcase for the new lighting effects coming from Corrie Wu.

Laser Tag on Halo 4 Backwash. Whoa! Get me some clean up tissue.smiley

Wasn't Backwash a remake of something already, though?  I know some say that Isolation was a cousin of Backwash.

You only say that because you never took the time to learn it, but I do agree. Flag games, shotguns only was quite a good time on it. Other than that, though, it wasn't all that great.

How would you know that "i never took the time to learn it"?

I played Halo CE a ton back in the day.  And that map was just a camp fest.

It was a jest, easy. How do you know I didn't watch you play?

Isolation and backwash were maps that were almost great. Isolation, just take away the underneath part, and it would have played much better I think. I don't know why but it just never felt right. Backwash was just too dark, in my opinion. I understand it was 'by design,' but felt it hurt the map more than help it.
