I don't doubt the increase but I've often read the populations counters don't work well. FWIW. There will be an even bigger jump when Halo 3 is free for a month.

I will agree with that. A couple of encouraging things from last night. Let me say first I have been playing H3 again for about a month. As of the last week, I starting to not see the same gamers get recycled each game to fill the room, the, matchmaking is allot faster, connections are stable. Last night really was allot like the old glory days. I did not at all see the same gamer twice, matchmaking was fast, solid, and regionalized. And I played up to about midnight. I really think if this game makes it to 20k players it would be a good thing. Even if for only reference towards building future Halo games.
I've been playing a bit lately just to have some fun, sometimes it's hard because the connections seem sooooooo bad. Looking forward to hopefully playing a bit more big team social!
