Mercedes and only mercades split the turbo in half. Inlet at the front of the motor turbine at the rear of the motor connected by a shaft. This is genius as it has the following benefits. Lower turbo inlet temperature so more bang. With the lower temp the intercoolers can be smaller and as the front of the turbo is at the front near the intercoolers there is less piping needed making the air inlets next to the driver and the actual body of the car smaller reducing drag that improves speed and fuel eco.
So after all that you have a car that runs faster, uses less fuel, keeps cooler, smaller and has more power. Every race mercades finishes this year the car or cars will be 1st and second. So much so my local betting shop won't take bets on a mercades winning.
Worst thing is the rules state no modifications to the engines are allowed for 3 seasons when the V6s came in to keep costs down. So the FIA needs to go back on that and either ban the split or let everyone else do it. Still isn't this what F1 is. Finding that in genius idea that puts you on top
Last year I got to where I didn't even watch the races after the first few laps. Vettal would just take off and that was it. Atleast Merc is letting Lewis and Nico race when they get close to each other instead of calling a "MAP 21".
I do think FIA fucked up in how strigent they are with the engines and no changes for 3 yrs. The FIA sounds more and more like my employeer the US gov. We'll make a new rule and it will all be better

I noticed that Parcells used the first person singular in his comments. Just sayin'...
So I can be on topic, I'm enjoying watching Ricciardo outperform Vettel.
