Copied this thread from the old Halotards Forum.  Thought it should live on.

Kiowa (Aaron), I've played more Halo/Borderlands and countless other games with you than probably anyone else and I will miss you more than I can possibly explain.  You were a great friend and I enjoyed hanging out with you online and I don't know what else to say.  I'm really going to miss you.  I wish we could have met in person at some point.

I'm still hoping it isn't true and I'll see him online and hear him chuckle when kills people with a banshee.........

I'm going to message one of his fb friends and try to get more info.

I talked to Kiowa's ex for a bit last night.  She said he loved the tards a lot and talked about us often.  She knew us by our screen names and knew exactly who I was when I said I was coolpengwn.

Here's a couple quotes from our conversation:

Quote:
whatis ur screenname? onlyknow yall as them....yes he got sick and he missed all of u.he talked about yall and many of nights i was banned from the computer 4 clan night...

Quote:
Ok will do thank yall tards he loved yall all.

She said she buried him with his Master Chief helmet (I assume the H3 Legendary edition helmet).  I think that is awesome.

I know I will never be able to play Halo again without thinking about Kiowa, and I am perfectly ok with that.  He was a fantastic person and friend.

I read this thread this morning. Shocked and in disbelief, I staggered off to work. A good part of my day was spent recalling specific "Kiowa" moments. One that stands out:

Kiowa and I had an epically-tarded CQC fight one night under the sword room in The Pit. We spent the better part of 30 seconds attempting to kill each other and were never further away from each other than about 12 feet. The fight included probably 8 missed melees collectively, several missed nade tosses, and a couple of emptied AR clips. As the fight grew more and more tarded, we both couldn't help laughing even harder. The fight mercifully ended when we both decided to go out separate ways (neither of us succeeded in killing the other). Both teams were in party chat so everyone could hear us laughing, but no one could figure out why because we were too out of breath to attempt to explain what had happened. Even in the postgame lobby, neither of us could regain our composure enough to explain the hilarity. It was definitely one of those "This is why we're Tards" moments.

So many hours playing H3 and BC2 and BF3 with him, so sad to see him go. You'll be missed, Kiowa.

If anyone else is going to be on tonight, I would be up for some H3.

He will always be in the back of my mind when playing games.

One other fun thing about Kiowa - in the last year as many Tards have shifted to Battlefield, Kiowa did too. If you ever played with him - guess what one of his favorite strategies was? Get in a  vehicle and grief the other team. I think he was one of the best tankers I've seen. If you had him on your team, and there were tanks on the map, you knew you'd dominate. He had a knack for finding just the right place for putting that tank and taking out the enemy time and time again. And that laugh he had was still there.

He will be missed. But not forgotten. I'm leaving his gamertag on my friends list to always remind me that gaming is about friends and having fun. Life is too short to not have those as top priorities.

Wow, I'm so sad after reading all these comments. Kiowa was a great Halotard and I'll miss him. When I think about our Halo 3 heyday his name is front and centre in my mind.

Back when the 'get better' thread was getting started I played a game with Kiowa, Bourne and Coke. I recorded their voices because I was trying to find a way to get chatter into game vids easily. I spent two hours last night going through hundreds of old clips and I couldn't find it. So much shit I've kept but not that one priceless piece of his voice and that awesome chuckle.

It was two hours spent thinking about him (and all of you as well) so I've got that.

I don't know if X posted the Halotard's Official Montage again so I will provide a link. I made a smallish Tard montage in which I thought Kiowa was featured more prominently but sad to say I've only got about 5 clips that he ever sent me.

Meet Kiowa!  (1/6/2009)

What is your earliest gaming memory?

It would have to be Pong. I remember playing that thing until the controller broke.

You obviously have mad vehicular skills in Halo 3, does that translate over to real life?

I would have to say a little bit. I had few friends whose folks were into dirt track racing and I would get to run a few laps in some of their cars.

You are always quiet when it comes to playing Halo. Is this because you are a machine that controls the game, or do you need to be in a meditative state in order to concentrate?

Please state your question in binary code for proper response. j/k In games like Swat or MLG settings I do focus more than normal and with playing on a 60" tv it does take a bit of concentration. I am also a bit self conscious about how my voice sounds. That is why you will only hear me laugh or giggle as you put it.

Most memorable gaming moment/achievement?

Most memorable moment is when we went 10-0 2 weekends ago. As for the achievement it would have to be finally getting my katana.

If I could hang out with any game character for a day ...who and why?

Who Sergeant Avery Johnson. Why? He is bad ass. If he had been made a Spartan 2 there wouldn't have been a need for Halo 2 or 3.

If I could be a movie Character who would I be?

Godzilla. Need I say more.

What is your favorite song and band at this time?

I like Evanescence at the moment. There is something about the singers voice,I forget her name, that just feels like it reaches in and touches my soul. So any song by them would be a fave.

Favorite video game of all time?

Final Fantasy 8. Quiet X

If you could do one thing for the Native American what would it be?

I would like to insure that our sovereignty remain intact. There aren't very many of us left and I would like to see that what few protections we have left will be in place until the last of us disappear into the gene pool.

If I were run over by a bus tomorrow, what is the one legacy that you would like to leave behind for the Halo'tards?

I would leave my 60" t.v. so the 'tards that make it to the Chicago lan would be able to play on its awesomeness.

You're offered your choice of cabinet post in the new administration. What do you chose?

Secretary of the Interior.

Why do you always laugh while teabagging me?

I don't teabag very often but when I do everyone gets the laugh.

Do you cook? If so what would be a favorite recipe to whip up?

Yes I cook but not very often but when I do I like to grill a large brisket that I have marinated in my own secret marinade.

What is your favorite Halo campaign level from any of the three games and why?

That would have to be hands down The Covenant from H3. The amount of things that you have to do to get through that level makes it by far the most fun of all the levels.

What is your favorite Multiplayer map from any of the three games and why?

Hmm thats a tough call. I would have to go with Blood Gulch. The different strategies that could be set up to play that map made for many an enjoyable game.

If money were no object, what is one hobby that you like to take up that you've never participated in before?

Metal working. There is something about seeing a piece of raw metal become something useful or beautiful.

What is your favorite weapon from any of the Halos?

The Sentinel beam.

What is your favorite Xbox 360 game?

That would have to be Halo 3 because I get to game with a great group of people.

What do you do when the power goes out?

Immediately go into gaming withdrawals.

What's the most difficult XBL Achievement you've ever gotten?

I think that would have to be the scoring achievement for the Halo level in Halo 3 I don't know how many times I repeated that level.

If you could be any animal/bird/insect/other non-human creature, what would it be and why?

That would have to be an eagle because I would be able to soar on the the wind.

What is your dream car?

That would have to be a '69 Pontiac GTO that I restored from the ground up myself.

Do you snore?

Yup

What is the longest period of time you've gone without electricity, and what did you do until the power was restored?

12 hrs. We played Scrabble by lantern light for 2 hrs. then the ex and I retired to to our room for some alone time.  When we woke up the power was back on.

If you could have anything you wanted for Christmas, excluding cash or credit what would you choose?

A '69 Pontiac GTO that I got to restore myself from the ground up. That is the dream car that I want.

What T.V shows do you just have to watch?

Fringe, Smallville, Time Warp, Dirty Jobs.

What is your favorite color?

Midnight Blue

If you were the hulk, would you stay in Hulk form the whole time,or only when your angry?

Only when I'm angry. It's not easy being green.

Mcdonalds,Burger King,Jack in the Box,KFC,or Taco Bell?

Burger King. They have the best fries. We haven't had a Jack in the Box here since I was a kid. They were caught serving horsemeat and were put out of business and the building demolished in less than a week.

If you could be one X-man, who?

Aw how come I gotta be a good guy? I would have to go with Wolverine. If I got to be a bad guy though it would be Magneto.

Are you going to attend the Chicago LAN in '09? Why or why not?

Probably not. Because the Russians want to damn much money to come pick my big ass up in their Antonov AN-225

By Honorbound:

Godspeed KiowaChief

I just found out today that a dear friend of mine is no longer with us. KiowaChief (kiowawarchief in our community; Aaron Gomez to his friends and family) has been a part of our community since 2007. While not well known to 2old2play outside of The Halotards, it is no exaggeration to say that he was hands down the best Banshee pilot I ever saw. But even more than that, he was a great friend and a wonderful human being. I know we often distinguish between our real-life friends and our online friends but in some instances, it’s those we come to know only online who prove to be truer friends than some we have looked into the eyes of. I can honestly say that Aaron was someone I counted as a true friend though I never had the privilege of meeting him in person. I wish I had.

When I first came to 2old2play, like many others, I strove to find a place within our community. I lurked for a time to see if I could get a feel for the tenor of the prevailing nature of interaction here so that I would know best how to find my comfort zone. In time I found my way. Part of that was finding a solid group of people who I could relate to and enjoy spending, what I was hoping might be, innumerable hours of my time with. As I was very much a Halo fan I steered myself towards those ‘clans’ which seemed to emphasize that franchise. The first one I connected with was The Halotards. As soon as I played with these people I knew I’d found my place. Aaron (or Kiowa, as we all called him), was among the first people that I played with and added to my FL. In the few years that I have had the privilege to know him we spent many hours playing games together and I knew that every time we did it would be guaranteed fun. His laugh, oh his laugh was infectious. Anyone who had the privilege of hearing his laugh knows exactly what I’m talking about. You always knew that if you heard his laugh something fun was going on. I will miss that laugh.

Aaron, brother… I will miss you man. WE will miss you. Halo will never be the same without you. The world will never be the same without you. I know that no one will ever be able fill your shoes but I will endeavor to honor your memory by always playing for fun and laughs. You definitely made being a Halotard and a member of 2old2play a truly enjoyable aspect of my life and I am honored to have been able to call you my friend. Godspeed brother. May you rest in peace.

2: While out getting really drunk I broke my right ankle. My friends tell me it turned an unnatural direction. I didn't know it was broke until I woke up the next morning and try to go to the bathroom and just fall flat over in pain after trying to stand up.

3: While drinking with my cousin we get in an arguement and she decides to finish the disagreement by throwing a heavy glass ashtray that I tried to catch with my forehead. It left a scar and dent about 2 inches long. The ashtray didn't survive the incident.

4: While trying to jump start another cousins truck after an ice storm I go to open the hood and loose my grip on it and the hood slams down and pops it like a ripe grape and chips the first joint in my thumb. On a side note I think that truck liked the taste of my blood because it never ran right afterwords unless I injured myself on it in some kind of way.

5: At one time or another I have broken everyone of my fingers except the little ones.

[u]Overshield[/u]

Lots of people don't know that when you first pick up the overshield it gives you ~3 seconds of complete invulnerability followed by the normal OS attributes.

There are many ways to make use of this fact. I'll illustrate one of the less obvious ones:

This is really only useful for the OS on guardian. Snipe 2 is one of the power positions on the map. Because of this, you are constantly getting bombarded and rushed by the other team. When the OS respawns, don't grab it, tell your team not to grab it. Wait until you are completely overwhelmed by 2 or more enemies. Then grab it at the last second (when you have no shields). Once you have it, go ape-shit. Nothing can harm you at all until the 3 seconds is up. You should be able to clear out the snipe tower in no time. Once you do that, then your team can re-assemble at snipe and then continue with the other team spawning together somewhere else. This is much better than grabbing it right away and rushing top-mid to find people. All you're doing is taking yourself out of position, and not utilizing the powerup to its fullest extent.

A player like Kiowa comes to mind when employing this tactic.

See now why you gotta go and pick on me.CryWinkLaughing

Now I am going to go and forge a couple of maps with a few banshees on 'em and wait to play 'em until you decide to play with us one of these nights when your not WoWing it up.   CoolLaughing

2) My stay in the hospital has knocked my control of my diabetes out of whack. I am constantly thirsty and any little thing I eat spikes my sugar level.

3) My ex is having the youngest call me daily and asking for money.

4) I am supposed to wear glasses but have been putting off actually getting them. Now I fear it is time to get them as I can no longer see fine print.

Thanks to an Ice storm I lost power Thursday night. The power just came on and I ran to post up so you guys wouldn't worry about your favorite Banshee pilot.  CoolLaughingLaughing

Those weapons are not unusual. They are on the map. I will switch up to them if my BR is crap at the time or who I am playing against. I know I can't beat Scotch or Blood with a BR so I switch my tactics. But the main reason I mostly use odd weapons is because they are fun. Especially when I hear X say the magic words.

You're the only person I know that loves the French Tickler (sentinel beam).

I don't know what happened.  Maybe Doodi can help.  I was editing out the bad IMG tags and now it's showing as blank.  However the data is there when I edit.  It also works when copied and pasted in html format to a text file and opened as HTM.
