Majestic impressions so far...

Pros and Cons:

Skyline

Pro:

Lots of nice tactical jumps. Game flow (depending on the playlist) can be hectic or fast paced. Will play pretty nice with tourneyment style peeps.

Cons:

FFA plays very hectic. Well it normally does, but amplified on this map

Monolith

Pro:

Accomidates multiple playstyles. Some decent sight lines. Has decent potential

Cons

Nothing blairing as of yet.  Lots of tourneyment play style potential.

Landfall

Pros

If you are a fan of the current direction of H4 this is the map for you.

Cons

If you are not a fan of the current direction of H4 this map is NOT for you

I like them all so far. I like Skyline the best so far. Skyline has a ton of jumps and its fun to play. The weapon spawns are static on the maps, the rockets spawn every 2 min which is really fast. Landfall is fun, but it does have that CoD feel. Monolith is more of that classic Halo design. Monolith has 2 beam rifles and rocket off first spawn its a bit of overkill on power weapons. Monolith would probley be my favorite of the 3 if it wasn't for that.

Overall very fun maps and a good addition to the 4v4 map lineup.

Monolith is a really good map, but it's got a lot of ambient noise in some areas of the map.  It played well for FFA, Hill, and TS, although the weapon drops come frequently in FFA.  I think three people had Beam Rifle at one point in the game.

Landfall is terrible.  There's just stuff all over the place.  It really does play kind of like a mix of Solace and Complex.  There are a couple of interesting parts to the map, like Solace and Complex have, but it's just so much stuff all slapped together.

Skyline is super close quarters.  It was chaotic as hell when I played it on an FFA, and on TS, things are clearly set up to draw folks in closer.  At least this map came out after the Boltshot nerf.

I guess this isn't too far off topic.

FFA Pro is supposed to have Rader.

rangerEVOLVED™@RANGERevolved

FFA Rumble Pro should still have radar. MLG FFAs did :)

Andy Dudynsky@BravoMLG

yup! we're fixing soon, don't you worry.

It'd be nice to keep a game variant without radar in FFA.  I always found Slayer Pro, in Reach's Rumble Pit and Anniversary FFA, to be much less campy and more free flowing.

I had fun playing on the Majestic maps last night.

The map I was initially worried about was Landfall, but I enjoyed my games on this map. Yes it's bigger and somewhat cluttered, but the clutter didn't really bother me and there was plenty of action to be had inside and outside.

Skyline is my weakest map because I'm not the best CQC player, but I enjoyed traversing the map and finding new jumps. CTF on this map was constant action.

Overall, ALL of these maps are a welcome addition to the game and I hope to be playing them a lot!

In my experience, the use of radar encourages some people to camp around corners waiting for you to come around it. I can't comment a while lot on the new maps as I have limited time playing them. I guess Thursday night will be a good time for everyone to experience them.

For FFA, a radar is fine, it can help encourage engagements by more easily pointing out other players. For team games I have always preferred to go without. Been playing a lot of the Throwdown settings in MM and customs lately. Having the radar back in the Majestic playlist really threw me off for a few games. Like it was throwing out the sensor waaay too far. Completely altered my play and messed up some encounters.

I tend to agree.  FFA should have radar, but not Team.  Your teammates are supposed to be the ones watching your back after all.  Working together and all that.  Communicating where the enemy was seen.

Power weapons, power weapons everywhere. I have an idea, on our small map, lets add some shotties to an already op'd boltshot. That should encourage map movement.

After further reflection, I think I'm starting to agree with Eksessive and Lanierb.  I think Monolith is a little too cluttered, too, and the sightlines are pretty cut off.  You've got to get up pretty high to get any angle at anyone, and even then, that's annoying.

Out of the three, I still think Monolith is the best.  I'd rather play it than, say, Abandon or Adrift.

Mistake #1

Dixon_Tufar wrote:

Mistake B.

If you are attempting to play it from base to base, I'd agree with you, but that isn't how the map is set up. Think of it like a Wizard/Sanctuary/Midship hybrid. It's what I'm seeing. You have sections of the map and those are divided up by the geometry. Sanctuary only has a few sight lines that go from base to base, but move to either side and you have a good view of each base much like Monolith.

The problem I have with Monolith is that they tried to get cute with the geometry. The bases seem like clusters of geometry just slapped together. It may make sense, but a first impression makes it feel like they are too busy. It could just be all the fancy highlights or the added angles to the ramps to make them look more three dimensional, either way it makes me dislike the map.

Finally a reasonable statement, but I'll have to go with Skyline for now.

Yeah, they took all three maps and slapped them on top of each other and bam!  It's too freaking complicated.  343 doesn't know when enough is enough.  Take out all that extra crap and you have a good map  Also the spawns swap, which will ruin even a great map.  And it's too big.  And it has power weapons coming out every orifice.  It's still better than Abandon, Adrift, Complex, and Solace though, so I guess that makes it AWESOME.

Skyline flag was fun, and I think it's a good doubles map.

Landfall may be the worst Halo map ever made.

Bah, no way.  TL-34, Backwash, Swordbase, the list goes on.  Landfall is about the middle of the road.  Something like a Boarding Action.  Not real competitive, but a fun map to play and do abnormal gametypes.

I absolutely loved TL-34.  Most people didn't seem to care to learn the teleports that I played against so I could dominate capture the flag on that puppy...  I'd love to see an updated version of that...

Edit: I loved Boarding Action for the same reason!  did these maps get rereleased with the campaign rerelease?

Sword Base, Orbital, Ghost Town, and then we're looking at Landfall.

I'll give you Orbital.  As for the rest, all I can say is give it time.  If they put this one into regular rotation it's going to ripen until the odor is so bad that the mere sight of it in the playlist will clear the room.

Seems like the best Halo 4 map that 343 included on the disc is a map Bungie made.

I did always dislike ghost town though, oh man.

Yeah, that's also why I say that for a compettiive version of that map, some of those tunnels around and behind the bases should probably be cut off.

Yeah, I'll give that to Skyline.  Flag did seem fun on it.  I bet Oddball would be interesting, especially between levels like that.

I'll give a vote for Oddball. The technical jumps you can do though for escape or positioning are somewhat negated by the ball throwing mechanic.

I'd like to hear what the inspriation for Landfall was. It isn't worse than orbital, but it doesn't Halo'y enough for halo either.

Ghost Town was a really pretty map, but I'll agree I dreaded seeing that sucker pop up...
