Legendary Slayer Discussion

I thought it would be best to break this out of the bulletin topic since it should be near and dear to some people's heart.

Quote:
Legendary Slayer

At PAX East, we announced that we were working on a new playlist named Legendary Slayer. After much iteration, discussion and playtesting, we’re excited to announce that it is (almost!) here and (almost!) ready for your enjoyment. Legendary Slayer is a variant that focuses on basic gameplay with only one loadout, on-map weapons and motion tracker enabled. Here are the key settings:

  • 4 vs. 4 Slayer
  • Default starting weapon (Assault Rifle)
  • No Armor Abilities
  • Motion Tracker enabled
  • All weapons and grenades located on map (no initial, random or personal ordnance)

The singular loadout is:

  • Starting weapon: Assault Rifle
  • Secondary weapon: None
  • Armor Ability: None
  • Grenades: Frag x2
  • Support upgrade: Explosives
  • Tactical package: Resupply

We’re excited to deliver a brand-new experience to Halo 4 Matchmaking that will focus on even starting weapons and map control, with players fighting to gain control of all rifles, power weapons and each map’s power positions. The Legendary Slayer playlist launches Monday, July 15, on the following maps, which have been custom-created specifically for this playlist:

  • Haven
  • Solace
  • Adrift
  • Abandon
  • Landfall
  • Monolith
  • Skyline
  • Shutout

As always, we’ll keep a close eye on community feedback and Matchmaking statistics for this playlist and are very excited to play with you! Lastly, Crimson DLC will be replacing Majestic DLC as our featured DLC playlist. We will continue to monitor the population and activity of this playlist as we rotate and optimize DLC content in Halo 4 Matchmaking.

Yes, AR starts, just as God intended.  Now quit your crying and go pick up a precision weapon off the map you lazy sumbitches!

You just hate him because he doesn't prefer your bad Halo.

The motion tracker, I can deal with.  The AR starts can't.  Every time you start a previous Halo game that had an AR start, the first move is to get a BR.

Fix that, knock sprint out of the game, and we can get back to working on map quality and playing some Halo.

Neither dragons nor cars

No assassination of Czars

No battle axe to be bound

No Pac Men to be found

There’s no forest of pines

No diamonds in mines

No fire-haired clowns

No assault rifle rounds

I did find some talking

About not running, but walking

But no grand auto theft

Or why NASCAR turns left

There’s no Forza tunes

And no Joker goons

No crimson pictures of ghosts

What’s the deal with our host?

I’ll head on back home

And leave you Spartans alone

Let this thread kick the bucket

And tell Dixon to suck it

The good news is that it is going to widen the skill gap ever so slightly.  The bad news is AR start.  Who the fuck wants an AR when the BR kicks so much ass?  I mean seriously, it's like the Halo 2 smg start all over again.

It will just depend on how many BR/DMRs are one the map. AR starts will be great for map movement, but it really going to be frustrating for weaker team when they get locked down on maps.

That's what the AR start ultimately means.  It means you get gimped right off of spawn.  Remember old Pit?  You'd pick up the BR right between Mauler and Flag, have another BR available in Needler Pit, laying against the wall opposite the shotgun, and I think there was one or two of them up on Green.  This ensures that you're always scavenging around for a weapon that you can defend yourself with.

Or....you just fucking start with the BR/a precision weapon.

One thing people are forgetting. We don't know where on these maps the weapons will be placed. Early forays on the maps will be a little hellish. Following that will be all the anger and opinions on where these weapons should be placed. The 343i appeasement force will likely kick in and make more changes. Yada, yada, more confusion and arguments. I'm sick of the Halo weapon arguments.

All it needs is a precision weapon to start off with.  After that, it sounds like a great time.

I don't have the gametype yet? I wonder how well it plays on Infinity maps? If it functionally fails, I hope someone will collect all the specialty maps for it.

This gametype is super fun. NOT enough power weapons on the map though.

It's super fun, but can also be super frustrating when the other team has all of the rifles on the map.  Oh well, still better than the slaughter/be slaughtered cycle of the big team gametypes.

Game 1, Adrift: Needs more precision weapons.  I counted two on the map.  My time was spent moving back and forth between the ones I found.

Game 2, Landfall: Needs a lot more precision weapons.  There's a sniper on that map somewhere by the garage, I think.  There's a Carbine and a BR hanging around off Blue spawn, and rockets in the middle.

Game 3, Solace: Why does a hammer spawn here?  There's a sniper on the short, open side of the map, and there's a Carbine somewhere.  There's a pistol.  Man, I never thought I'd be glad to see a Carbine.

Game 4, Skyline:  There are a lot of precision weapons around, but it has a pretty messy feel. Bottom mid has the Beam Rifle.  You want the Beam Rifle.  Hiding around in clusters and crouch walking gets you pretty far.

Game 5, Haven:  The scrounging around for weapons continues.  Sniper is on the mohawk ramp, and rockets are top middle, open ramp side.  There are shotguns by the two small lifts back up to red and blue sides, and BRs (I think) by there somewhere.

Game 6, Shutout: It feels a lot more like actual Halo, mostly because the settings and weapon placements are a lot more known.

Game 7, Shutout: Same as above.  Still needs moar precision weapons, though.

So, yeah.  Its a pretty solid playlist, with most of the crap stripped out, but it needs a little more discerning of a weapon sandbox on the maps.

I'm loving it, but I would like a pistol for a secondary. I always hated AR starts in the other Halos, but I love beening able to play classic Halo again.

I'm digging it, but no one else seems to want to play it.

What are the main differences between this and Throwdown? I got asked this and I couldn't answer it.
