It used to be a great weapon for skilled players to get kills effectively.  It had to be countered with other weapons in their prime ranges and using smart tactics - a good thing in a competitive FPS.  Skill play and tactics should prevail over spray and pray and just holding the trigger while walking in a straight line to punch.

Then, Halo 4.  The BR wasn't king of precision weapons or medium range engagement anymore.  It was a weapon for less accurate players to hit even when it was mostly a miss, and to get headshots with an extra two bullets of accuracy forgiveness.  Other weapons were in its role, and filled it better.  It became a noob crutch - especially in SWAT.

The weapon balance changes might make it better, but its still an overcrowded role with too little to differentiate the weapons.  It's also taken some of the ARs spray while running up for a melee area.  Not good compared to how the BR used to be, but it does become more effective in this game.

Perhaps in Halo 5 it will recapture some of its former glory.
