Based on a Ford GT at a guess?
Yep
No, they claim it was started with the Mustang, but both are definately in there. I'd thing the GT's chassis would be easier to adapt to and better handling, but that's why I'm NOT doing that for a living I guess?
Those cars are not built for performance.
They are built for the WOW & "Look at ME" factor.
Big reasons they would use a Mustang chassis/body over GT.
1. Cost. $150k + for a used GT......if you can find one. http://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/search/DRauSearchDetails.aspx?itemid=1465931 You can start w/ a brand new replica Mustang fastback shell for $20k.
2. Base material. Ford GT = aluminum & composites (fiberglass/carbon). Mustang shell = steel. Steel is alot easier and more cost effective to work with.
It would be much easier (and cost effective) in the end to use a tube-frame chassis with GT drivetrain (maybe pick up a wrecked GT for $40-50k for drivetrain, brakes and interior) and fitted w/ the Mustang bodywork. And since the main focus isn't exactly performance as much as the WOW factor, it makes no sense to start with base materials that cost 5x as much.....before you stick on labor costs.
.....And I'd like to throttle someone in the face if they did that to an original GT..gif)
My bad.
It sits like a GT40 and I speed read the artical and saw GT40 in it.gif)
I'd like to see a tail shot.
That's just bad as fuck.
I'd say they obtained a wrecked in the nose Ford GT and cobbled the rear body work to it. As far as the wow factor, it looks great and if it performed like a 70 fastback, I'd still be happy. I certainly wouldn't have it down at Laguna Seca trying to scratch the paint.
You know what's absurd.....there are several salvage title GTs that are going for $160-170k! Mental. And there is no shortage of the cars north of $200k. I knew they were keeping their value.....but damn. When a salvage title car can still sell for more than the MSRP when they were new......
