I think I read a discussion about this on NeoGAF awhile back. The impression I got was they just meant some kind of App web access to Waypoint and other features similar to ATLAS.

In any case, I'm asking for a Surface for Christmas. Bases covered.smiley

If you read the article, the comments that Don M. make kinda do sound like there might be more than just apps for the tablet. Combine this with the rumors that Windows 8 will be standard on all MS devices, such as the Windows phones, xbox 360 and PC. I could see this possibly happening. Just look at the way the Xbox 360 dashboard looks right now, and the way Windows 8 mobile and Windows 8 OS look from their betas. They all look extremely similar. Could this be foreshadowing for some sort of ultra MS connectivety? I hope so. Making Xbox 360 games compatible on PC's would be a huge step forward imo...

I had read that before when it first came out. "Works with Halo 4", is the key. It does not say Halo 4 plays on the Surface. I'm confident it doesn't unless these other Microsoft comments come into play. MS also said Surface will play all games in the Windows Store but then qualified that to mean all Apps in the windows Store. Will there be an App to play Halo 4? Sounds too gimicky to be a full blown Halo 4 game player.

We have no details on how Halo will work with Surface, and Mattrick didn’t offer anything further. But at E3, Microsoft did show how SmartGlass would work with its new tablet.

I know you're not being too serious but I often do come bearing gifts of bad tidings.

If I have a little tidbit that might help people form good opinions then I try to pass it on. At least for things I care about.

I'm planning on getting a Surface. That plan may become enhanced or even get dropped depending on the practical functions it can perform. I see myself sitting more directly in front of the TV with my wife. I can maybe piddle away on here or other Halo stuff or even browse the web for TV show related stuff. Right now I'm sitting only 1.5 metres away from that spot so the Surface better deliver something cool or maybe it will be on the back burner of forgotten devices.

I use an iPad, my wife uses her Kindle Fire while watching shows..something about the IMDB app changing the way she watches shows.

Anyway, I did try the trial version of ATLAS, but with only one map available I never got a good feel for how useful it was. It sure has potential to be a cool feature, but they have to prove it's worth my $5. I don't think they can add too many features to it though without people claiming it's not fair to those without it.

As far as playing H4 on the tablet - no thanks. I don't see any way that would work well.

Who the hell wants to play Halo on a tablet?

(Assuming you could even do that.)

I imagine this will be a smart glass app.  I have the 2012 Dashbaord preview and on my windows phone i have the "companion app" for my xbox.  It now loads as the smartglass app though i don't get the extra content M$ showed off at E3 with it.  I doubt it will be playable and will be more of a storyline supplement

I thought that I read in a 343i interview that surface would be used for statistical info, and potentially to join games without going into the 360 dash.

I think they meant you can watch some game information live, not play. Right now you can use ATLAS app on a smart phone to watch live player movement on an overview of a map. I am guessing but I think that's all they were talking about.

Does anyone have the full version of ATLAS? I'm curious how well it works.
