Halo 4 - Campaign doesn't work.

Hey everyone,

I searched for this topic and found nothing. If a thread has already been created for this issue please point me to it.

I have Halo 4, installed disk 2 and cannot get the campaign to work.

When I select campaign, the starting cut scene plays and then I am sent back to the menu. When I restart campaign and select the save point just after the opening cut scene, it still plays the initial cut scene and then sends me back to the menu.

I have found threads on the Halo support forum mentioning this issue which seems to be only with some original and Elite 360s. I tried deleting all the updates and Halo 4 related files and reinstalling them and that didn't work. I tried removing the hard drive and not signing in to Xbox Live and playing that way and that did not work either. I tried installing the game to the hard drive and I get "disk is damaged or dirty" error messages. There is no problem with the disk as I used it on another xbox without issue. Also, multiplayer plays without a problem.

Other games also play and install with no issue as well.

Has this been addressed by Microsoft?

Are there any other fixes or work arounds I have not tried?

Thanks!

Did you see this?

Unable to load Campaign and/or matchmake
Both our internal team and the Xbox team are actively engaged and working on this. We're making progress and are getting closer to identifying the root cause. We will provide an update when we have one.

If you are unable to load a Campaign mission, returned to the title screen or crash in Matchmaking (immediately after the countdown or while the map is loading), or having trouble installing Disk 1 to your hard drive, please try the following: If you have a hard drive with enough free space, please attempt to install Disk 1 to your hard drive. If the install fails, please send us the following information, as it will help us identify the issue.

  1. Console ID (you can find your Xbox 360 Console ID using these instructions: http://connect.microsoft.com/XboxLIVEUpdate/content/content.aspx?ContentID=14068
  2. Service Date (found on the back of the console).
  3. Serial Number (found in the System Info screen or on the back of the console)
  4. Product ID (found on the back of the console)

that does not say WHO to send it to. It just says "send us the following information". They left out the details of who to send it to. Xbox support tried to point me into that direction with my issue. So unless you want to comb over 200 pages of forum posts, you can try posting your info in that thread with a discription.

I did try installing to the hard drive but I get an error message saying that the disk is damaged or is dirty. It is not because it works just fine on other consoles.

I've discovered new developments on this.

I borrowed a different Halo 4 disk from a friend. His disk would work as expected.  The disk that would not work in my xbox works fine in his.  I used his disk to install the game to my xbox hard drive.  Using my disk then the game would sometimes work and sometimes not.  Everything pointed towards the xbox not reading the disk properly.

When I have the Halo 4 disk in the drive when I turn on the xbox the disk will not read properly.  When I have the drive empty when I turn on the xbox it will not read the disk. However, when i have some other game in the drive and then eject the disk and insert the Halo 4 disk it will launch and play normally.

All other games load and play normally.

It just gets weirder and weirder.
