Halo 3 Server Re population Day (April 7th)

http://www.reddit.com/r/halo/comments/qu816/halo_3_server_repopulation_day_just_wanted_to/

  1. Send messages to all the big commentators on YouTube, asking them if they can do a little shout out about the Halo 3 play date at the end of their next video. The more people that message, the more chance that they will actually do it. In the end, they are gamers too, so I'm sure they will be glad to help.

  2. Alert the people who play Halo that may not be on Reddit. Not everyone is a Redditor, and we will be missing a large chunk of potentials players by not telling your friends/colleagues/anyone you know that played Halo 3. If they say that they don't have it anymore, let them know that it is only $5 if you buy it used, and can most likely be found in the giant bargain bin in the local Gamestop. Hell, you could even buy it for a few people since it's so damn cheap now.

  3. Alert any subreddits that you think may be interested in this idea.

  4. Like the [1] Facebook page so we obtain more exposure.

  5. This must be upvoted. I know people hate it when people ask for upvotes, but this needs to be done for people to see it. New info: We are in the sidebar now, so it is not as crucial to upvote, but it still helps.

This is a chance to relive the days of old Halo 3. Back when everyone was playing, and it was a giant clusterfuck of friends and sociality. (I think that's a word)

So do whatever you feel inclined to do, and then do a little bit more after that. Let's get this shit happening!

Remember, the date is April 7th.

Peace.

Should I have also subtitled this "Man, You Guys Will Sticky Anything!"

I kid, but for those interested in hopping on, I felt compelled to pass it on.

I stickied it for awhile then will take it down. Bump it again close to the date and I will re-sticky it.

We've been playing H3 as a clan lately, and it is so much more enjoyable than Reach.

We've been playing 1-3 times a week.

This is a little OT but Halo 3's UU/24hr has been 70,000-80,000 mid-week and > 100,000-120,000 on weekends. I think it has gone up recently from a previous all time low.

I am of the opinion COD games are shedding players from normal burnout. Those players have to go somewhere and I'm betting a significant number of them own Halo 3 but not REACH. I think that is why the Halo 3 numbers are remaining fairly steady.

I have a different take on the subject, and I'm pretty sure you know what it is by now.

I hate guessing.

I think you mean, the influx is from REACH? I'm fairly sure that would be an incorrect assumption. REACH's population has been very static for a month, or more.

Every game eventually sheds players due to burnout/boredom. 4 of the top 5 XBLive games are FPS. 2 are COD games which are not actually new anymore. If their population was each the same as REACH they'd be shedding players (total) at twice the total of REACH. We know their population is higher than REACH so the the numbers being shed must be even more than 2 to 1. That's my theory but I have no numbers for COD. Only the XBLive charts and REACH's population which is static. Static is the key to my theory. REACH should have dropped like a stone by now but it hasn't. Therefore it must be gaining as many players as it is losing.

My wild ass guess is that the influx is from players that already loved Halo 3, played Reach, dropped that for Call Of Duty, then came back to possibly Reach, and then back to Halo 3.  Of course, our guesses are worth about the same, except yours are prettier because Bungie tracks this kind of shit and (to my knowledge) nobody else does.

Ya, that could be.
I'm wildly speculating a lot of Halo 3 players jumped into COD summer of 2010 and never got REACH.

It's also certainly possible they got both games, but just choose to play Call Of Duty.  Shit, I know someone on this site whose kids love and play Reach all the time, but he plays Call Of Duty (when he isn't nuts deep into Star Wars nerdery).

I would love to play some H3. Actually, I've been VERY tempted to start playing H3 again because Reach just feels like a chore. I don't really have anybody to party-up with and play H3 and playing with randoms is not fun.

If it were not for 2old2play, I doubt I'd be playing online much. Not even Halo.

EDIT:

Wait, shouldn't this be on 3/31, the last day that Bungie is collecting XBL data?  That way all that stuff will be immortalized.

I have to work that night unfortunately.  Oh well, maybe I'll throw in my H3 disc and sit in a lobby before I leave just to increase the population by 1.

Deep, I know you keep tabs on these things.  Was there a population spike in Halo 3 last night?
