Great Night of Customs AKA Damn, the Competitve Settings Are Better

So, we found out the settings and maps for the competitive leagues, and it plays a lot faster and better.  King on Haven is damned fun and stupidly fast paced, and that one Flag game we had was pretty slick.  I'll put them all up in my file share tomorrow if anyone's interested in taking a look at them.  Just the maps are worth it, even if you're not down for the settings themselves.

I'm tossing them in my file share, along with the maps, but if you want them from the guy that made them: http://www.halocouncil.com/news/competitive-settings-v5

It felt so good to play Pit again.  It's defin smaller Pit but with the comp settings, we had a half decent game of slayer.  The spawns are fixed too.  More customs! And you still get the odd AA, just not against every dude you run into.  I noticed that if a team went on a run late, whether it was coming from behind or stretching the lead, the AA drops became more important near the end of the game.

I think we found a good alternative to endless 4 maps of Infinity Slayer.

I played the version 4 maps/gt's and it was fun.  A more traditional version of Halo with static weapons but not ignoring new additions such as POD.  Though POD is modified so that you don't have game changing weapons dropped at your feet, like snipers, rockets, binary, etc.

I just ran through the new Cella and Laguna maps.  They look good and I look forward to playing the rest of version 5 soon.

I haven't seen Laguna yet, but the others seem pretty good.  The one that's a whole bunch of pods, and jumping on asteroids in that one tiny part is a little different.  My knee jerk reaction is to dislike it, but it may need to grow on me.

Dixon, was the Lockout remake one of the competitive maps?

I liked the settings as well, with the exception of the 10 second respawn on the CTF game feels way too long on a map that small.  Too easy for the flag runner to go from one side of the map to the other in that time.

I really enjoy the reload speed on the rifles.

Would also prefer that the flag carrier would go just a touch slower while running.  And while I think they should be able to throw the flag down, I think their ability to fight back is a good alternative.

Wouldn't mind seeing an OS spawning somewhere as well.  I know this sounds a lot like that I want the old H2 settings, but those settings worked really good.  I like these changes enough that it'll make comp games interesting.  It'll just take some adjustment.

It was.  That's the version of Lockout they're using/testing now.  I think I agree with most of your assessments, as well.  That's also why I put 5 Flag on that map instead of 3 Flag, to inflate the length of that game.  We played that map the night before, on 3 Flag, and only one person played the objective , which led to a game lasting under 2 minutes.

The Pit has the Overshield spawning under Sword every two minutes, and that's nice.  It's nice having a glut of maps to play in Customs now, though.

Until 343 gets their head out of their ass and realizes not everyone wants to play infinity slayer or BTB, custom games are gonna be the way to go. Decent sized maps with good games on them where everyone doesn't get a damn rocket launcher.

Bashing on the developer for supporting the population which pays their salary and saying they have their head up their ass does not make sense to me. The competitve community can look after itself if it wants to. It seems to want to but pissing on the developer is just internet negativity. Build the maps, organize the troops and  boost the competitve programs with positivity, that's how a minority group fills its needs.

I guess you can look at it however ya like. Are more people playing BTB because that's the mode more people just prefer, or because right out of the box we got more huge maps than 4v4 maps and people don't feel like playing Haven over and over?

People don't play what they don't like. Invasion had big maps and vehicles but it always suffered from low population. It was the confusion of the gametype. Did people like Infection or was it the maps? Except for the last six months it was the same maps used for other gametypes. Did people like Grifball or the maps? The Infinity gametypes are giving people what they like and that seems to work best on larger maps.

Or, seeing as how btb was one of the more populated playlists in Reach (and H3), methinks that btb infinity slayer provides the ONLY btb option.  Many people complain about everything that is wrong with btb infinity slayer but play it because it's currently the only option for us btb lovers.  So yes, people play playlists that they don't like.

We'll just have to disagree. I know that logically it cannot be true. I cannot imagine playing in playlists I don't like for very long. It boggles my mind that anyone would punish themselves like that.

FWIW, happens in the COD series all the time.  A lot of players will go where the most other players are, for variety and best chance of matchmaking, even if those aren't their fav playlists.  Logic doesn't always work when talking about this hobby/obsession/dysfunction of ours.  404

It happens quite often. You've got a group of 4 and you're playing whatever, then a friend hops into the party then someone else has someone get on so you've got 6. You don't wanna be the dick and tell them to get lost so you go from ctf to btb because that's the only option with so many people.

Frankly I wish they'd stop beating around the bush and just give us all the damn playlists, population be damned. There's several hundred thousand people playing halo. Even if only 2% like to play headhunter, that's still several thousand to play with, that's more than some games get total.

Part of it is also how many people you have in a room.  A bug in the game that does not let you lock a room AFTER people have joined that room means I might start a room of 4 to run 4vs4 but a few extra buddies join, I don't have the abilitiy to lock my room to 4 so I end up playing games of BTB Infinity even though I don't want to.  This has happened to me atleast 1 or 2 games nightly.

It also happened for all of Reach's lifespan.

I'm not a fan of BTB, but end up playing it almost every night because of the party size.

Same here.  If some can't agree to customs, sometimes we roll into BTB.
