Gear stick YAY!

So they arrived today, two shiny new Fanatec gear sticks. After a quick try of the H gate I decided to pass on that until my Sim rig arrives the method Fanatec use to fix it to the wheel is not really up to it. So I fixed up the sequential and set off on getting used to it.

First thing I found is my clutch wrecking days are over, as I suspected the extra fraction of a second it takes to reach the shifter and the fact that it feels more real meant I did 20 laps of Motegi and only messed up a couple of changes so very little damage to the clutch and consistent lap times to the end.

For a while my times were down by a second or so but after a couple of hours I beat my best time round Motegi in the EUSL MR-S by 2 tenths and was lapping constantly in the low 1:43's.

A result then, and hopefully Sundays EUSL should be less aggravating in the last half, when normally my clutch is in the red.

Nice call.  The shifter adds a whole additional layer of immersion.

Heh, well I don't expect a dramatic improvement in overall placing I have made some gains over the last few weeks it is true, but to expect that rate of improvement every week is I think wishful thinking. If I can stay in touch with the mid runners and end the race with an in tact clutch, that will do for nowsmiley

No idea what kinds of times folks are getting here, but I gave you a 1:41.5 to chase. To see where you're losing speed.

Knight, using the chopsticks, there is a very cheap and effective way to make the shifter rock solid.  Just get 2 short machine screws and nuts that will fit between the chopsticks and put them in there and tighten down.  After that the shifter will barely move.  Here are pictures of what I did to mine before I got the CSR Elite.

Cheers Troy, I have actually wedged the large hex key supllied with the Rennsport between them and that worked too. My stand tends to wobble after a while though...But my Sim rig should be here next week so that will make everything as solid as a rock...and save my back from the knackered cheap office chair I am using at the moment...Joining this clan has been an expensive experience LOL But that is my fault I always have to throw myself 100% into my hobbies, cant wait to be sat in my racing seat smiley

Make sure you post some pictures of your racing setup when it is complete.  I'm planning to upgrade too.  I have been using the Rennsport wheelstand while sitting in my reclining chair.  It works and is quite solid, but the stand still moves a little on a long race.  I'm planning to get myself an rSeat for Father's Day.  Haven't told the wife yet.  I'm planning to tell her right after I buy her a nice present for Mother's Day.

Gonna be a while till the full rig is complete, but for sure when the cockpit is set up I'll have to show it off.  I did look at the rSeat among others, but the GT Omega just ticked all the boxes and came in under budget for the basic rig. It can be upgraded all the way to the final goal of the three screen set up quite cheaply as compared to some of the other options. It's only drawback is it doesn't fold down neatly like some of the others.
