(Fm5) Painting question on the new system...

Can anyone tell me HOW you search for others vinyls? Not designs or paints for whole cars, for things like Castrol or Michelin?

I been puttering in this for a couple weeks now and haven't stumbled over it yet.

When you go to add a new vinyl shape go to the left-most group which is "Recommended Groups" or something like that and then in the bottom right corner is says search and i think its the "back" button (360 Speak) or the Double Square button. and then the search function comes up do ya thang and hit search and you get a list. took me a while to find them too :)

This frustrated me, too. While applying decals to your car, when you are selecting a shape to apply, scroll to the left and you should find the option to search for vinyl groups.

Awesome! I had seen the far left tab and it struck me as odd there were only so many vinyls there, but it defaults to the right of it and I never went back. NOW it makes sense that's where the search would be.

Thanks guys!

I am considering making full  vinyls of a car paint, complete sans car number. One could download the side of the car, position it where liked, import to other side and then add their own number as they wish.

Trick is to label them so they can be found.

I was considering asking you to do this very thing for me. Just a base livery that I would put my own sponsor logos and car number on.

Someone has done a Toyota P1 livery for the Pug 908 like this.

Yeah, the layout will fly, manufacturers logos and such would read mirror imaged, but they could simply be covered with the corresponding logo as long as there is no spinning involved.

They more I think about it, the more limits I see on doing it. But it is doable. I'd put up the left side of this car, and the logos are already up, so download the martini and the pirelli and paste them on the right side at the proper size to cover the mirrored logo's and done.

If fact I do this alot on my own for placement, import and then cover them on the opposite side. The mirrored logo is a great "locator" for the opposite side.

it would work if you use always a square backround for them true good thing

i dunno if it could be cool if we just post a bunch of stuff they only have to place ... it would mean alot of vynil to share on our side but they will be able to make their own puzzle and build their own paint like they want

i always post sticker white & Black so at least they can use it on dark or white backround but if they want it red lol ...
i wish they could be able to change the color of a group it would be easier to design their own paint without having to share our vinyl in 256 color lol

I'm sure you an alter the colour of simple logos, I did it on an Alfa paint I FM5. While moving\resizing you press x maybe??

Also I don't think you can do a base paint. I think when you tried to put other vinyls on after downloading it, it would reset the base paint.

I don't know why they took out sharing paints, it was so much easier!

Well, the round number plates an easy, just put a white circle over it and put your own number. But most likely I'll put a blank plate and one less thing to fuss with. I occasionally do a plate with the number hollowed out, negative space, and then they can put whatever color they want under it. Or place it over multicolor and it shows em all.

Which reminds me, I need to do a few number plates.

For any car already done this would be a breeze, IE car is requested, pop into paint and group livery minus logos and save/share with description containing something to locate it and done. Boom.

Might have to work on the locators for the search, but it sounds pretty easily done. Hardest part would be to accurately place it on the car, and with a picture reference, should be easy. Will have to test to make sure the size stays the same or that could get a bit wonky.

Where'smy buddy Stewie at? I always experiment with Stewie.

No the base paint would be simply a vinyl group for the left side of the car. You could add a number plate etc over it and save it, just couldn't share it as the side paint would be locked.

It's easy to alter the color on an unlocked logo, locked is no can do.
