E3 - What Halo products would get you on XB1 this year?

What new Halo products will get you off the 360 and onto XB1 this year?

Personally, the Halo 4 multiplayer engine with a shit ton of map remakes would do it. Ordinance could be dumped in favour of more traditional weapon and equipment placements. Gametypes with a mix of old and new are a must. Gametypes settings should include everything we need to setup the style of gameplay we want.

A Halo without AA, ordnance drops, and equipment.  Smaller arena style maps that are not community Forge creations.

If H2A is a thing, I hope it's not a Halo 4 interpretation of H2.  While I enjoyed Anniversary Classic more than any other offering in Reach, it still came up short to original CE multiplayer.

Worst things to ever happen to Halo:

Reach.

Armor Abilities

COD-ification

Equipment.

The first three are Reach.  Equipment pickups were fun and a rarity.  Not something you could recharge and use over and over.  If you don't like equipment, then what about overshield and camo in H1/2/3?  It's no different, just delayed use for some items.  It was just enough chaos.

One person on the team happens to have a power drainer and there is a warthog raining hell.  That's a good tactical use, and reason to have team play and calling out weapons and strategy.

I'm of the same feeling as both you guys. I'd be up for some kind of "best of multiplayer" on the H4 engine with remakes from all the Halo games. Ditch the AAs and ordinance. Let us get back to real Halo.

However, to get me to buy the XB1 specifically to play a Halo game - it would really have to impress me and I don't really anticipate that will happen. However, I'm planning to have the XB1 by the time Destiny launches, so I might be tempted to pick up a "new" Halo game.

I plan to be underwhelmed. I feel the disappointment already.

Equipment wasn't too bad.  It didn't' break the game like armor abilities, especially camo, did.  At times they were a nuisance, but for the most part they didn't dramatically change the pace of the game.  Similar to overshield in MLG.  Remember, to be able to use equipment, you first had to find where it spawned, hoped no one else had already picked it up, and then find yourself in a situation which called for its use.  There were plenty of times where I was never able to use power drain, regen, bubble shield, etc because the situation that was best suited for it never arose.

No fighting will be had. For the most part, I agree with Dixon. We differ on opinion with regards to btb, but he enjoys mlg while I enjoy btb, so I don't really comment on mlg aside from personally not enjoying it. Equipment is a tricky fellow. It doesn't break the game like armor abilities, but it can break instances in the game (tied game 98-98 in slayer or 48-48 in smaller gametypes, one team uses regen to absorb more bullets, thus securing victory that may not have been otherwise). So while there are momoments where equipment MIGHT alter the outcome, it has no where near the effect armor abilities have on the game.

Bubble shield wasn't too terrible.  The real big offender was the regen field.

I'm disappointed ODST & Reach aren't in the mix of remastered games for the XBOne... Though the story isn't canon, Reach is my favorite.

Shadow: I didn't see "The Master Chief Collection" mentioned....

what do you mean the story isn't Canon?  Bungie made Reach.

But yuck, Reach.  You're entitled to your opinon, but Reach made me quit playing Halo.

Opinions are like ........, everyone's got one and they all stink.

Canon, as outlined in the "Halo: Encyclopedia" and all Halo novels/games up to the point in time when HR was released.

There were some canon issues with Reach but much of it was fixed up enough to pass by me. My Halo canon start line is Halo 4 and going forward from there. At least 343i has a plan for it's extended universe. Bungie never seemed to know what they wanted to make next. Not saying it was all their fault but they made their own choices too.

Back in the day, Bungie said that H3 was always intended to be their final Halo game. But, since Bungie sold out to MS, Bungie was contractually obligated to do whatever. I don't think Bungie realized what they had - had created, then or now. They will know how important (how special - how unique) Halo was/is a year out after Destiny's release.

I know some here hold different opinions (there's that word again), but I feel HR is the best Halo game. I can overlook the canon probs. HR just feels/plays better. The HR MM population holding up as well as it has after nearly 4 years isn't surprising. It's too bad I didn't know about 2O2P 3 years ago when I first got XBL.

One thing I do like about H4 are the loadouts since you get to choose your starting weapons. That's so much better than the AR starts we had before.

Plasma Pistol and Bolt Shot starts ruin it.
