Dealing with the start and AI
Just wondering if there are any tips on how to handle the start of a race and the AI? I might be going at this wrong but I try to avoid any contact with cars and that has been a big no wins challenge for me. Seems you always start in the middle of the pack, the tracks are pretty tight areas, and the AI has no well....intelligence. My initial process was to just pace myself and not try to move up in place until the cars spread out. But most of the tracks seem very short and by the time the cars get spread out I’m too far behind to get into a decent place. So now I just try to do my best but I usually end up in a destruction derby with all the other cars.
Um, are you in season play or online?
If you have the suggested drive line on, they tend to follow that so you can predict where they will want to be, and they seem to always hit the brakes going into the apex of the turn , so don't be on the suggested line at the apex and you should be better off to get around them?
FM4 has the AI much stronger in the straights so the best place to deal with them unfortunately is the corners. If you can late brake by them, even better.
Season play. I've got all the assists turned off, so I don't use the drive line. I guess I'll have to change my driving habits. I'm usually the opposite I stay in line on the cornering and try to gain postion on the straightaways. Lol
Thanks for the tip!
Now that you've found us, just don't bother with AI. Join a lobby instead (or start one) The ai in forza is terrible & does nothing but teach you bad habits. I"ll send you a FR from our active members gamertag. You can use it to find other members. Until you've made some friends of your own, you can just view that tag's friends list. If you don't get invited to an existing room when you get on, feel free to start one up & just invite everyone you see playing on that gamertag's list.
Honestly I'm a tad nervous getting into lobby games right now because I don't want to be that noob who accidentally nails somone on a turn and peeves everybody off. LOL
Damn right! That's my job around here intern!.gif)
Seriously, the only way to learn to race with others is to race with others...if you're worried about being a rolling road block, try the less serious stuff, track nights, random pick ups, there's a couple Pro-Ams on Tues/Thurs(?) I think, which are meant to get everyone bunched up, a learning thing.
I can understand not wanting to mess up a point series for someone, but around here racings racing, and it's the intention more than the skill, that matters. Just ask Fitzy!
Yep, Most people here can tell the difference between someone hitting them accidentally & hitting them on ppurpose. We cut the new guys a little extra slack. Besides if you're that new, you probably wont be close enough fo really screw them up for long.
I'm happy to offer my services as a racing instrutor as well if you're interested. just hit me up.
I always recommend Track Night on a Wednesday, a relaxed night of not at all serious racing that will give you a chance to get to know some of us.
Don't worry at all, newcomers are welcomed and given all the help they need, hit up Tourni or Cotter for some tuition, as well as them anyone who finds they are faster than you will offer gems of wisdom to get you faster and Fitzy will scare the life out of you. Church will pass you on his roof with his engine in fire and I will heard heard muttering "I needed one more lap, just one more lap"
Trick here is to dive in, get involved and you will soon be confident to enter anything that takes your fancy, maybe not win...but there are drivers of all standards to race with and fun to be had, and the first win will have you dancing around the room.gif)

Actually its a good point, you aren't dealing with the AI, you are dealing with situations that are slightly abnormal and traffic.
Just keep your eyes on the space and try to predict what the other drive is going to do infront of you, if your unsure then just let off the gas a little. An extra car length goes along way.
I am one of the resident Race tutors and more than willing to help :)
I see your points and agree. I'll just go ahead and dive in. Just remember when you are on the track with me.......I warned ya!
@Tourni6 I'll definitely take you up on the offer of a little tutoring.
You wont be as bad as you think you are - It when you get faster the problems start coming out :)
Send me a FR and we'll get on one evening and run some laps, until then try to do some of the following:
Always look for gaps in traffic and watch how the gaps are being opened and closed by faster cars, work this to your advantage. So, if you see a fast driver working through traffic then tag on to his bumper and try to follow him through. Remeber, he'll be very good on the brakes!
So the next point is to try to watch the track ahead of you and prdict common brake points - if you cant see the brake point coming then move out and have a look down the straight. You'll be better prepared for the corner.
Don't worry though, the guys here are very helpful :)
I'll be echoing some of the same sentiments. This has got to be one of the most polite groups of racers I've ever run with. They like running very clean, and it's funny watching a few of us get out of each others way to prevent a wreck :) Until you get nearer to the front when suddently things get more interesting... As long as you apologize when you smack somebody on accident, (or on purpose, pretend it was a noob mistake :D) you'll get along just fine.
Send me a friend request as well, I'm online most every night trying to tune something into shape.
Good luck!
To answer the original question (Online play is cool n all but if you want that bucket list, you have to play with the AI). Never follow AI into a corner they will break-check you. Unless your running alone try not to follow the break line, sweep all corners wide.
It would be nice if you could let the AI have the first turn, just sit back then take em down one at a time, but the races are just too short. 3 things that help you with AI:
- Their launch is the same no matter what type of car they are in, an AWD will let you jump into 2nd or 3rd place before the 1st corner
- The grass isnt such a bad place for passing the AI (not too deep or you get the sticky grass)
- Your doors wil take a pounding so 'Drive it like you stole it' isn't a bad thing (they aint real afterall)

To add to this I normally find there is at least 1 turn that i am a lot faster on than the AI.
What I try to do is shadow the cars in front wait till a turn I know they are slow on and just go for it.
Try not to pick many bad habits up though because people will start to think you want to be like me
Shucks you guys are just awesome!!! I'll hit ya'll up online when I get a some time to play and get some laps in with everyone.
