Console Gaming League

The competitive people probably know all about this. I think I've even linked to some of the news. It never really stuck in my head though.

I find this interesting in that this what I have felt was required for Halo to get back into serious professional gaming.

What do people know about this?

I respect the idea and what they want to do. From my stand point,  Instead of asking for the community to fund it and build it, they should be going after a larger fish to help with sponsorship.  Their current sponsors are Gamer Gloves and Gamer Grub.  Probably fairly new companies that are not pitching in much money at all but are giving away their gloves and grub.

Also,  I would not use footage of MLG events to showcase my pitch to the community for 5k. Plus their first tournament is sceduled for 10/21/2012 as a Halo 3 FFA and a Halo Reach FFA.  but they have no venue. I dont see this first big LAN happening for them. Honestly if one was going to start a league from scratch.  you would almost have to do micro tournies/LAn in your area.  Build some rep, get your own footage from events, and once you have a clear following built,  online tourney play and good LAN attendance you could probably go try to land larger Sponsors.

Yeah, Fire pretty much nailed it.

Fire left out the most important part. This league is the brain trust of the Suddoth brothers. Semi-Pro Halo players with quite possibly the worst attitudes I have seen. Unfortunately I don't see this going very well or very far. People do not realize how much over head LAN's are to put together. I think the projected cost for each station at some of the smallers places that throw them are well over 300 dollars an hr on the ones capable of streaming. These two in my opinion are trying to do something positive for the Halo community but with their reputations and lack of funding I give it plus minus one event.

I got a feeling MLG just put a nail in this project's coffin with the Dallas Halo 4 announcement.

I figure the costs or model would be similiar to that of a golf tournament.

Agreed Deep N. The AGL or Arena Gaming League has already done some LANs with prize money. But the CGL with the MLG announcement I do not believe they will have their first event. Captain Barbosa who did the casting for the Hypefestation tourneys said that each station ran him over 300 dollars an hr.
