Combat Bigger Vehicles

Been playing BTB and I was getting owned by scorpions, banshees, etc. last night, seemed to mostly be the big vehicles.  If I don't have or get a rocket launcher or equivalent, how do you combat those? Can you get close enough with that camo perk to sticky them? I was trying to just put rounds from my dmr into them but they usually kill me before I kill them. I just seemed to be a magnet in general last night, if I had 5 other teammates around me for some odd reason I would be the one they targetted the majority of the time.  So just trying to spur some discussion that may help me out with either of those. thank ya!

I should add my playing style is more the hang back and put shots into people, so I do get a lot of assists in general.  I can be the more agressive type but if I get on a team that isn't doing well I just feel I'm going to end up double/triple/quadruple teamed if I'm too agressive.  Those of you that play BTB how do you play?

I'd say set your load out to spawn with a plasma pistol, overcharge it and distrupt the vehicle with the overcharged shot.  That should at minimum buy you a few seconds to throw a plasma grenade or try to hijack the vehicle(or run if needed).

I agree with Raider.  However, given your playstyle there's a slightly different thing you can do.  Plasma pistol it repeatedly from afar, giving your teammates time to do the destruction or hijack.  Keeps you still at a distance and out of the line of fire, as well as seriously helping the team.  If the driver manages to bail out or anything, then you're in a good place to DMR him rather than in melee range.

You don't have to change your entire loadout though - just make a separate one for anti-vehicle is what I do.  Have things like the DMR you normally use, but throw in a plasma pistol, plasma grenades, and perhaps some grenade amount and radius packages.  The armor ability is preference mostly, but a jetpack or active camo can both really help against a bigger vehicle.

Finally, with practice and a sniper rifle, it is possible to kill only the driver of a scorpion.  Aiming for the hatch with the sniper can get it blown off with two shots, then either DMR shots or another snipe can kill him, preserving thet tank for your team.  Not easy to do, especially if it's moving around or depending which way it's facing.  Just wanted to let you know that was possible though.

Overall, I'd suggest an anti-vehicle loadout customized to your preferences.  If a big vehicle kills you, perfect time to switch to it.  Once the work is done another death would get you back to the loadout you used before it.

Good luck!

Besides running the Plasma Pistol, play with friends who communicate. Over in 2o2pHalo when we play BTB we rarely get dominated by a large vehicle for to long. They are fairly simple to take down when 5 or 6 people are focused on the  task.

Great ideas guys I'm going to try it tonight!

Matt, I usually end up playing with my girlfriend after work around 9 Eastern.  If you guys ever need a couple more we'd be interested in hopping in some games with y'all!

My BTB loadout consists of a plasma pistol and plasma nades just for the sake of taking out vehicles. The pulse grenade and plasma pistol combo works well too.

What about the jet pack, is it easy to hit you with those while you're in the air usually? Think a combination of all three...

Hovering out into the great blue sky just makes you a nice slow target, I wouldnt reccomend the Jetpack.

Depends on the map and vehicle you're up against.  The gauss hog is hitscan so it can take out a jetpacker with ease.  The tank has some travel time on it's exposive head, but still fairly easy to kill a jetty.  The wraith mortar has an arc to it, so from a distance they need a little luck to kill a jetpacking enemy.  The jetpack is extremely effective against banshees especially if you're armed with a PP, as most of them just use the banshee bomb and not the plasma cannons.

the guass and scorpion and wraith you need to keep shooting with an overcharge.

vehicles that aren't one shot kills you have time to throw a grenade between charges.

unless you are without shields.

DMR, PP, CAMMO, 3 PLASMA GRENADES

attack from their rear view.

PP, sticky, PP, sticky, PP, sticky, PP, DMR spam.

remember that you do more damage when the vehicle is disabled for mechs and covie vehicles.

I figured out today that the boltshot deals massive damage to the ghost.

I don't know what  it would do to a heavy vehicle.

If you're PP'ing a tank, wraith, or mantis 3 times in a row, you need to be boarding it and planting a grenade.

Ok I did much better tonight. I still think most of my deaths were from vehicles, mostly because I don't have enough SP to unlock the plasma grenades.  But I got the Spartan Laser twice in one map and was taking vehicles out with it left and right.  I think I'll do better once I get the stickies so I'm not gonna stress it right now. I did disable a few vehicles but without the stickies they just took me out anyway haha

I believe so, I did this the very first halo 4 game I played by accident.  I dont' think I took the guy out I think I just boarded the ghost and then I had to do something else to knock him out...

ive been meaning to do this to get a little bit of payback for all the times its been done to me, but most of the time i either think of it while the ghost is driving away or i get killed lol. can you highjack all vehicles in similar fashion, id love to jump into that big tanks outer turret and raise some hell while an enemy is driving the thing, i think that would be funny as hell.

Never jumped in the turret of the tank to see if that works.  If I get that close I bust through the back to take it out.

But have caused some whacky hijinx when red is driving the warthog and blue jumps in the gunner spot or vice versa!

Wam Ive not been playing long but I think B is for us bumper jumpers and X for regular, boxer, whatever thumb configs.   Anyhow figure out what button it is and hold it close to the vehicle.

You can hijack a tank, although you either have to hulk smash it to bits or plant a grenade (if you have one), same with the mantis.  The ghost and banshee you can actually hijack and take control of the vehicle.  Warthog depends on which seat you hijack.  If you hijack the driver, it's like the banshee and ghost.  If you hijack the gunner, you now control the turret.  If you hijack the passenger, you can beat the driver to death.  (Tip for anyone gunning on a hog:  if your driver is in the process of being jacked, it is possible to kill the hijacker while he is hanging on the side removing the driver).  The wraith is the tricky one.  Like the tank and mantis, you have to either hulk smash or plant a grenade and you can hijack from the front or back.  However, it is possible for the wraith driver to kill you if you hijack the front.  That's why it's better to hijack it from the rear.

Also, just like in the battlefield series and previous halo series, it's better to have your vehicle destroyed than give it to the enemy.  By this I mean anytime you're going to get jacked, be a man and die with the vehicle.  If you try to hop out to kill the potential hijacker, you can be killed and give the enemy a perfectly capable killing machine.  Play the percentages people.

Skyjack = banshee -

Hijack = mongoose, warthog, ghost, wraith (in campaign & SpOps) -

Passenger/Gunner Hijack = warthog, wraith, scorpion -

Plant Grenade/Melee Mash = mantis, wraith, scorpion -

Is that accurate? Helps to hit action and hold, while looking right at enemy driver.

My antivehicle loadout includes mobility to help run down vehicles disabled with the PP.

If I catch you hijacking a mongoose I will mercilessly ridicule you.

I couldn't stop laughing as I drove the ENEMY flag carrier back to my base.  He finally killed me right near it but on the side.  Was on Ragnarok.  Only did that once, but damn was it worth it.

Mobility is a solid choice for Anti-Vehicle loadouts.  My personal preference is Grenadier, however.  An extra plasma grenade can be the difference that kills a Mantis, can be an extra vehicle killed, or it can be a spare in case a throw goes wild.

I also threw on Gunner for the support.  It doesn't see much use, but a faster moving detached turret could help against vehicles, I guess.  Ammo would help more, but only if I could count on having an ordinance weapon available for the extra shots.
