Back in the UK - A few awesome US roads and US musings
So, having just got back fro California, I thought I'd mention that you US guys have some awesome roads.
Just to make it clear, local laws were respected on these tight roads. Not much choice given the fact I was swapping between a Ford expedition and a Chrysler Town and Country - both autos of course, but perfectly OK in their big ass lumpy ways.
In particular....
CA Highway 1 - Starting just north of Sausilito to Stinson. Very twisty, narrow with lots of elevation and amazing views (when the sea fog isn't full on :)) Mind you, some utterly shocking road camber in 1 or 2 places. Then from Stinson to Point Reyes, still some good twisties, but with medium speed straights. Fantastic road surface - quite new.
The Old Priest Grade Road CA 120 - just great. Wider, steep and twisty with a fantastic surface. In the right car this would be awesome fun in either direction.
Yosemeti - gods, the place is awesome, and it was a real pleasure to drive here. I had no wish to put my foot down as the place is so stunning and peaceful (bar the 1000's of other tourists), but, the roads here are just fantastic, with some serious drops and corners.
I found myself desperately wanting my MR-2 (MRS to you US guys) with me.
Best thing, the traffic, even in central SF never stopped moving. Got back to Heathrow......M25 FFS!
On other US matters - the states just keeps growing on me every time I visit. Food was fabulous. Ribs and bacon get 10/10. Customer service remains second to none.
Cars are still largely complete crap (Nah, they really are not that terrible). Noticed that a couple of residents on CA1 had bought lotuses though - an evora and an Elise.
I'll try to dig up some links at some point.
Welcome back Poids, hope your mission was a success.
