Anyone beat Skolas yet?

So ive managed to get thru 32 and 34 rather easily, We got to the end of 35 last night without much problem except for round 5 was a bit of a grind, round 6 with skolas we had zero luck. We killed the servitor on the left and blasted skolas but we didnt seem to do much damage

we were all using praedyths and truth, all ascended and all fireteam members were 34 , so im very confused as to how people are doing so much damage so fast

i read this week he is solar, id like to give it another go with gally and black hammer, but may need 2 level 34 gaurdians

add me if you want to do it

I have yet to venture into either the level 34 or 35 arena. Granted this past week was mostly Iron Banner grinding, now it's gone so I'll be looking to run PoE now that I can run a level 34 toon.

I have seen a lot of talk about the Level 35 not really being worth the time and effort given the rewards. A lot of people seem to be happy just running 32 and 34 each week, but I might was well try 35 at some point.

Have you had any luck getting the Elder Cipher for one of the new HoW exotics? I'd really like to get my hands on the Lord of Wolves and Queenbreaker.

I have not tried 35 yet.  I have been happy running 32 and 34 for the cores and light.  I have not recieved any of the new loot but I have received a new ghally and mida from the chests so far.

Made it to Skolas twice and both times one of the guys quit. All that hassle for nothing. Really not worth it other than to say you've done it. 32/34 for armor/weapon cores and e-light

Ditto, I have been running the 32 and 34 arenas. The 32 last week seemed to be more difficult than the 34. Haven't had a Cipher drop for me.

This week I hope to do 32 x 3 and at least one 34, it will be a stretch to get to all three.

Caesar, I  haven't tried 35 yet, but would be willing to give it a try on Thursday. From what I've seen you will definitely need lvl 34 guardians.

I've been part of a team that does the 32s and have completed one 34 so far. I've not attempted a 35 yet.

Did a 32 last night. Just remember to wail on the servitor boss at the end with as many Gjs as you've got (each player should have 7 up and 7 ready to go) as fast as you can, and jump up and out of a blessing bubble to shoot each and every time. Otherwise, you'll die from the rocket exploding on something out in front of you. Gotta get above the fray.

The guys I that I know who have beaten it say to use 3 Gallys.  Too many adds overtime to last.  You have to get him quickly.  The other guys that have beaten it, used 2 Gallys and 1 guy with a black hammer to chain stun him.  All 365 of course.

I think that would work this week with it being Solar burn, but not the case every week.

The 34 this week is easier than the 32... We did two 34s last evening. We never had to repeat a level, and the total deaths for the team after five rounds was just 2-3. Having a bubble Titan among the three will help. The all-strength armor you've been getting from Valiks has bonus recovery and defense values against Hive. Be sure you're wearing it. Just one round has a burn (void), otherwise it's just matching what's in front of you. I used a 365 Fatebringer (or 331 Word of Crota), and an arc/void shotgun for all except the last round where I switched to a 331 Black Hammer for the boss. I also had a Gj equipped the whole time. Kill the Hive Ogre boss at the end just like you do Phogoth - belly pouch hits.

I haven't even bothered to do a level 35.  Not much incentive for it.  You can get the Armor Core, Weapon Core and Etheric Light on the 32 and 34 combined.  The elemental primaries suck with the third tier upgrade replaced by a shank/dreg/vandal burn or captain stun, the ones I have currently that I've upgraded are better.  And Elder Cipher can drop in 34.

I've started stacking the armor/wepaon cores to use for Judgment Chance in the hopes of a better armor roll.  So far all I've gotten is a Wolve's Leash with vandal burn.  Yay.

last night we killed skolas 3 times but died to the mines, everytime the mines would start on the opposite side where we were at,

and by the time we got over there to dismanlte them we ran out of time. we tried sending a guy early but they would die to ads because skolas wasnt dead yet

after our 8th try we quit.first time ive ever quit anything, but having to wait 10 minutes in between round to pop a heavy then wait for the cool down just sucked

i might give it another go this weekend, because im a glutten for punishment

on the bonus side i did get my first elder cypher bounty when we killed him

I heard that Bungie made Skolas easier to kill and reduced some of the game's toughness - to allow more guardians to complete the mission - like they did Valus.

Not yet. Bungie stated in the weekly update they are looking at ways to make the  Skolas fight function better. Part of that was to remove the primary burns (arc, solar, void), reduce the boss health and have adds spawn at more predictable times. However, there will also be new modifiers added to make sure it's not too easy.

These new changes to the Skolas fight won't happen until the next hotfix which is hopefully dropping next week.

We made a PoE 35 attempt Saturday night. No joy... Got to the Skolas boss fight pretty easily, but all the magic stuff (weird servitors, poison, mines, Skolas teleports) at the end beat us - over and over and over. We had his health down to half each time by raining Gjs at him after taking out the weird servitor, but it seemed the effort was more a tease than anything. I have heard of people spending 6 hours on Skolas, just to give up at the end. Yes, he needs some detuning... or better rewards.

Crota hard also seemed impossible in the beginning. Now, it's routine once we learned the drill. I suspect Skolas is/will be like that.

Bungie just released their new round of Patch Notes concerning the Skolas encounter:

Quote:

Adjusted difficulty of Level 35 Skolas Challenge Mode

*Burn Skulls are now replaced by non-elemental skulls

*Skolas' health reduced (from 27000 to 15000) to compensate for lack of burn skulls

*Reinforcement spawns are now based on Skolas’ health instead of a timer

we gave it a run last night after the patch, its actually harder now then it was before

his health was reduced from 270,000 to 90,000 but without burns your effective damage is also reduced

So here is what went down

we ran to the right, I killed the first eye, we gallyed him and it didnt break the servitor bond, I then ran to the otherside killed another eye and we broke his bonds, that part is easy.

the plus and minus, small arms is the buff but light switch is on too, which means you cant take a melee at all or you are dead, the buff on primary makes killing the ads a little easier though, and the fact that now you can clear them out for small periods of time because they are now based on skolas health and not a timer.

So our plan was to get him down to the point where he started the mines, kill all the ads, dismantle the mines and then try to finish him off. well this is the part where we ran into a lot of trouble. when you get skolas's health down to the point where the mines start the ads come back out, and because you have to kind of spread out to get the mines this makes it a pain in the ass to do.

here is a link to my twitch channel and the broadcast from last night, you guys can scrub thru to the end and see where we had troubles, maybe you guys will see something i dont

So, we banged Skolas out after the patch on the second try.  Its not even really hard, but it is a tedious affair.  You've really got to meter out his damage so you don't get adds coming out at you, because they will overwhelm you.

So, go in, like normal, kill the servitor, kill adds, do some damage, but not too much.  Wipe out the adds, and repeat. Launch a few Gjallarhorn shots (like 5, maybe?) and wait to see if adds come out.  When adds come out, wipe them and gather up and do damage.  You're moving together the whole time, doing laps around the whole stupid arena, killing adds almost 90% of the time.

Its end game material, and its supposed to be hard, but its mostly just tedious.
