Announcing the Halo 4 War Games Pass

Halo 4343 Industries has announced the ‘Halo 4’ War Games Pass.

Here are the details from the press release that just went out:

With the highly anticipated launch of “Halo 4” on Nov. 6 less than two weeks away, Microsoft and 343 Industries today unveiled that there will be more content to come in the months post-launch, and the “Halo 4” War Games Map Pass is your ticket to getting it all at a 15 percent discount. Stoking the excitement for launch, 343 Industries also premiered the gameplay launch trailer for “Halo 4, available now on Halo Waypoint.

Retailing for $24.99 USD2 (2,000 Microsoft Points), the “Halo 4” War Games Map Pass confirms your access to three War Games map packs as they become available in December, February and April, and represents a savings of more than 15 percent versus purchasing the packs individually. In addition, Map Pass purchasers will receive two bonus in-game helmets, as well as a unique in-game emblem.

Exploring new worlds and wonders, all three Map Packs provide classic “Halo” combat and exciting ways to experience the new feature-set of “Halo” Infinity Multiplayer. Descriptions and tentative release dates are as follows:

Crimson Map Pack (December release timeframe)

Maps: Wreckage, Harvest, Shatter

Description: Witness the chaos of a clash of civilizations in Wreckage, with its blend of claustrophobic spaces and dangerous exposures and venture into the human colony environs of Harvest, and explore a human foray on an alien moon in Shatter.

Majestic Map Pack (February release timeframe)

Maps: Landfall, Monolith, Skyline

Description: Landfall’s emphasis is on infantry battles against a glittering ocean on a distant world, while Monolith exposes you to the naked vacuum of space – and the firepower of opposing teams, and Skyline’s distinctly industrial feel provides new challenges in somewhat familiar, but occasionally confined spaces.

Castle Map Pack (April release timeframe)

Maps: Daybreak, Outcast, Perdition

Description: Daybreak is set in a military facility against the backdrop of an idyllic mountain range, while Outcast plunges you into the warrens, canyons and arches of an alien edifice, and Perdition takes players into the heart of an urban sprawl, with tactical speed and situational awareness its key features.

Also included in the “Halo 4” War Games Map Pass are two unique in-game helmets (‘Scanner’ and ‘Strider’) that feature new geometry, and an exclusive in-game emblem (‘Falcon’). The “Halo 4” War Games Map Pass is included as part of the Xbox 360 Limited Edition “Halo 4” Console Bundle.

Gorgeous related concept art for these maps.

I read from David Ellis, this quote is incorrect. No map pass comes with the 360 Console Edition.

I just looked at the page and this is what I got at the bottom:

So, us LE suckers may get these helmets after all?

For those asking, yes, the War Games Map Pass included with the Halo 4 LE comes with the two in-game helmets and emblem

I believe the current school of thought is that the LE pass and standalone pass have different SKUs, so they are two different passes. Meaning the LE pass will not include the helmets and emblem from the standalone pass.

Which, if true, is BS!

One thing about the concept art I've noticed though - where is our purple Covie map? We need a good Covie map!

That is a statement from MS, not 343 which is weird. Could be a case of the left hand not knowing what the right is doing. I know it's their first game launch and it's a doozy at that, but I wish things could be lumped together for us so we know what's what.

So basically, those still getting the preorder are getting the shaft for stuff that's free on youtube, and some journals and concept art potentially.  Definitely downgrading as their isn't really a "plus" to the LE version.

I guess you mean the Forward Unto Dawn Movie (FUD)?

The LE comes with an extended version. I suppose it will eventually make it to Youtube as you suggest. I am kind of expecting copies will initially be removed from the public's eye. After awhile they might stay up. Most of this stuff are just crap copies that soil my eyes, so I don't really care about Youtube.

I am more concerned about what quality do I get as an LE owner? Will FUD be streamed or downloaded? If streamed, how compressed will it be? Will my connection be adequate. If downloaded, how compressed will it be? Will I wish I had just gotten the SE + Map Pass + Blu-Ray?

I'll know in less than two weeks.

Deep, I watched the IGN unboxing and the dude pulled out a card with a code on it for the FUD and he said download code. But yeah the compression question you have, I have no answer for.

Simply amazing.  I think the first name of their marketing director is Rube.

Wow, thanks for the update DEEP. That goes against what had previously stated by bs_angel in the forms of Waypoint, but hopefully it's true.

I will am still changing my pre-order from LE to SE though...lol

Great info in the map packs. I'm confused  now more than ever as far as the SE/LE editions go.  I don't really care about anything other than game content but I can't tell if I'm better off getting the SE + this pass or the LE.

You have to ask yourself if the extended FUD movie, a few armour pieces (Prime Armour) and some documentation are worth $15. If they are not then get the SE + War Games Map Pass.

I am still hoping MS throws in a kicker to the LE owners. I think the $15 is really only going to buy me the armour if good copies of the extended FUD make it onto Youtube.

I'm thinking the same thing.  I have also been reading about the specializations and there seems to be a slight advantage for LE owners.

24 day advantage. Not very useful for someone at my skill level. The pop and chips XP promotions are not a good option for me either.

Question.

Is this map pass only available online over XBL? I thought these could be purchased separately at retailers, but I'm not seeing they are available for pre-order. I wanted to add this to my pre-order since I'm cancelling my LE and getting the SE. Ordering from Amazon and I am not seeing the pass.

Anybody have a clue?

Think it's a marketplace only thng.  Walmart advertised the map pack, but what you actually get is a MS 2000 point card, which you redeem on XBL then get the map pack...duh...

When I picked up borderlands at game stop the clerk asked me if I wanted to get the game pass so I said sure. I got a code on my reciept. When I typed it into my xbox it said I added xbox points and I had to use those points to buy the pass in the xbox marketplace. Sounds like the same deal for halo.

I guess I'll be sticking with the SE + War Games.  No need to spend the extra money.
