Don't do what I did

Fun thread idea. While avoiding spoilers as best you can, maybe tell a story of lessons you've learned, moments you wish you could have back.

Mine is, early in the game (I'm about level 14), you have to drive around and gun down enemy vehicles. Part of the challenge is finding them. Luckily, they happen to be transporting a van of goods across a desert when you're given the quest. You can take out the couple of escort vehicles, and the driver of the van will pull over and offer you his bounty if you promise not to kill him.

Don't do what I did, which was just hop out and run up on top of the van. As soon as I did, 2 more trucks started firing rockets at me, then the flying things joined in. By the time I barely got out of there with my sliver of health, the van, and the sweet loot it had on it's roof, were gone. I'm not sure if it was blown to bits, or, if it drove off. I just know that whatever that purple thing was that I only briefly saw is gone. Clear the area first.

I must have been lucky and got the loot from the van before the technicals could get to me, but I had to scramble back to my ride.

I'm not sure what lesson I've learned from meeting Mad Mike, but the dude is a total badass and will haunt my dreams.  Somehow he gave me even more trouble the second time I met him.  Definitely the hardest boss I've come across, and the one that makes me hate the fact that bosses respawn.  Someday when I'm a level 50 badass I'm going to come back and show him who's boss.

Hah, oh... I can contribute to this thread.....

Don't go swimming in ice water. Just sayin...

+ + +

Don't assume that the really cool Tediore gun that turns into a gernade as you reload is your new bestest tool for gernade tossing after shooting a single round and throwing it for reload because it does big damage... Definitely don't make that your plan while your only other weapon on your person is another SMG... what you might want to remember is that you are also losing all those rounds when you throw that still mostly loaded firearm at the enemy for extra big damage... so, a SMG with 45 round mag with one round fired and 44 left that you are tossing it for the big damage is chewing through your ammo at a lightning fast rate... heh, not only is it a good way to run out of ammo in said category of gun, but if you sold everything else earlier because of your two really cool SMG guns... well, you could be resorting to a lot more melee than you expected.

+ + +

Early on after meeting hammerlock, I forgot about the Elevator 'get a shield' quest on my first character's first playthrough... because I went exploring.... I killed all the bandits from each of the hovel areas down in the ice area, never went and clicked on the elevator, and took out the electric fence without getting the 'go get a fuse' update. Then went on through and wondered into the gorilla / pirate / boat and ice flow area. several hours later I came back and decided to follow up on that shield quest and when I got to the point where i was suppose to 'run through the fence' the fence wasn't there. I couldn't get the fuse to trigger so figured I glitched it out and moved on.

Good news, I was able to join someone elses game and get the quest completed with them...

+ + +

Playing both slot machines in Sanctuary is fun and can generate loot and eridium fast. However, don't walk away to pee after you pull both 1-armed bandits... because, you could get triple bandit heads on both machines, double gernades and insti-wreck your level 8 character... LOL

+ + +

After Sanctuary, in three horned valley or whatever, don't confuse steam vents for higher elevation vantage points while sniping, you will get interrupted....

+ + +

During Firehawk quest, I decided to pop the top off of a helmet wearing Goliath. He killed a couple enemies and leveled up. When I took him down, he dropped some good stuff.  Later in the desert, I was doing this side mission for a queer aircraft pilot down by Ellie. After landing in the bandit camp where he wanted me to collect some crap, I encountered more Goliath's and had a thought. I'm going to let one of these bitches level up like crazy and see what I can get in loot drop. So I take off running through the whole area activating all kinds of baddies... and before I know it, many goliaths!

Bad Idea. They can knock off of each others helmets. They can level beyond what you can take down at current level... they can jump really far and really high too.

Later on though, I'm happy to report that 3 level over current level Goliath after leveling up will give you good experience, and I got a chest drop from his back that had 2 purple weapons in it, a purple shield, class mod and blue gernade mod.

+ + +

OK, I'm sure I'll come up with more, LOL!

You have to go loot the van right away or it drives off and it won't stop again, if it runs into you it instantly blows up your vehicle... happened to me :)

Don't use an elemental weapon to provoke the guy you're supposed to lure back to the cave alive.

I like to use Maya’s phaselock with an almost empty gun.  By the time I’ve switched or reloaded, the lock has ended and the baddy’s back to killing me.

This right here is my standard dumbass moment at least a few times a night. You'd think I would have learned by now, but NOPE

That’s awesome.  Now I need a beer mug with that image visible in the inside so that I have a constant reminder.  Probably wouldn’t cure me, but it would help a lot.

If you ever find yourself stalking a leprechaun, when you get the key to his hideout, be sure to loot *all* of the pots of gold before using the key to leave the area. As best I can tell, there's no going back.

Yeah I guess if I want that achievement I'll have to wait for the next playthrough.

I'm a bit beyond the halfway point of the game, I think, and I recently had a 2nd opportunity to high-five the guy. Not sure if it would count toward the achievement, as I already had it. Just know that there's a possibility.

Yeah I've had 2 more chances since then.  Sometimes you only get a couple of seconds before he takes off, but once he just sat there and gave me plenty of time to figure out I needed to melee him.

I was standing in line at Gamestop to reserve my copy of Forza Horizon and told the guy behind me that Borderlands 2 wasn't any good and that they have to give away a free shirt so folks would buy it.

If you pick the gun for the 'out of body experience' quest, it will talk to you as you use it.

Was standing in the center of Sanctuary, next to the pilar thing, when...
the town got ready to launch - right before you get the Eridium for Lilith from Roland - and the ground opened under me, dropping me to my death. Just a couple hundred bucks to respawn very nearby, but I felt pretty dumb.
Ooooo shiny! Splat smiley

Be careful where you shoot the Varkid for the Mighty Morphin mission. If you can't reach what the adult mutated version drops your stuck with that mission being incomplete. You get one chance.

There's like 800 of those damn things, just go mutate another one.

And you'll get multiple chances to high five claptrap, so don't worry.

I did almost the same thing.  I injected the pod, but then my buddy accidently blew the pod up before the mutated thing spawned.  I was hoping I could go back to Hammerlock for another injector, but I'm guessing you already tried that....and if I can't complete it on my buddies game, I guess I'll have to wait to get 100% side quests with a mechromancer or something.  116

The high-five a clap trap has multple opportunities.  I missed the first opportunity right after he opens his stash at the start of the game when you get to pandora.  But later you help him out with a birthday party and after that I was able to high five him.  Not sure if it was right then or on my next return to pandora but i was given the opportunity.

I sold that 'talking' gun bythe way.  The stats on it were crappy so i took it right over to the machine to sell it without even firing it.  Had no idea it talked

The talking gun is cool for a few minutes, but it literally talks ALL THE TIME if you use it. Every time you reload, every time you switch weapons, while firing, etc... As soon as it started repeating itself in Sanctuary I sold it. Couldn't imagine choosing the shield and having to listen to it all the time. It's a neat gimmick, but a crap gun, you were right to sell it.
