Clan League?
Sunday tourney had a pretty good turnout and we were all discussing getting back to doing clan leagues. Some seemed to be pretty interested in doing the heirloom thing again. Great, cheap cards. Yay! Tentatively, we will start after the first of the year. If you are interested, drop a line in this thread. We know there are possibly some who prowl this forum but don't post. Now's the time! We want to hear from you!
I have been researching (a little) the heirloom format, and while there is a website where you can import your deck and check for it's legality, I am not sure how that works or even if it does. The current "updated" list has about 50 cards on it which is sooooo wrong cuz the entire list is thousands. The only complete list I could find was from 2010 and we could use it, but, technically, it isn't exactly heirloom legal. Has anyone else found any useful info?
I am interested in doing the heirloom league!
I have been sick the last couple of days so I haven't researched it at all.

Card Legality
Heirloom is a format that bases its card legality on the classic format and on the price value found at mtgotraders.com. The legality range is as follows:
Mythic: 0.01 to 1.00
Rare: 0.01 to 0.40
Uncommon: 0.01 to 0.20
Common: 0.01 to 0.10

Heirloom decks always seem so bad when you 1st get them, but everyone else thinks the same of thiers too!
I found a website with the entire list of heirloom legal cards, but it was from 2010. And, as I said in the privious post, the current list that I found, legal as of October of this year, but only has 50 or so cards on it. The website in nite's post may very well be the one I found, cuz if you google it that is what comes up. If this is an active format, why is this so hard??

It has tabs for each rarity, and the first one is Mythic, of which there are only 52 legal in Heirloom. There are thousands more listed in the other rarities.
I assume there is a random card generator somewhere we can use to make decks..

I was using a deck generator made by MrCross that uses an Excel spreadsheet. I had him update it for me because I don't know how to clear it and add the updated list. It's been awhile since it was updated.

To operate the thing alI you do is open it. (you need Excel or the equivalent...I use Open Office cuz it's free) Everytime you close it out & open it again there wiil be a new random set of cards. The last time we tried a league with this, Serp & Hades were using it to get the cards for us.
It's designed to generatet packs of cards in sets of 15. In that set you get 1 rare(or mythic), 3 Uncommons and 11 commons. To see what that might look like click here...

Yes. I did a little editing there to add the color and make it a html. Just to make it easy to see for the people getting their cards. This was the first 5 packs given to players to start the league. At this point no one really has much to work with. But as we go to the next week, we all get another 15 card pack to work with, on up to week 4 when we open our last pack. Usually by that time decks are getting better.
The last couple leagues we did I was score-keeper. Mainly because I enjoy comparing progrees with the others and seeing how the competition is shaping up. That's why I wanted Serp or someone else to divvy out the cards cuz I didn't want to be responsible for the whole thing. Btw, Serp was also the money holder because he could divvy out the winnings through his bot.

You can see that Hades didn't play and that in week 2, Penni didn't get Doc played and week 4 she didn't get Fort played yet she still won the league.
Btw, for those that don't know, winning a match 2-0 gives you 7 points, 2-1 gives you 5....Losing 1-2 gives you 3 points and losing 0-2 you still get 1 point for playing.
Well I sent MrCross an email asking if he'd update the generator and put it somewhere that I can download it again.
I haven't seen much feedback in the last couple day from you guys. Are you wanting to play a four round league like what is posted above, or just one round? Do we each put up 3 tix as usual?
In the four round league, as done in the past....
We all pay 3 tickets as an entry fee to someone who holds the money.
Somebody runs the generator and posts the cards that people get. You can only play with the cards you've drawn. You must buy or obtain the ones you don't already own.
Almost all of these cards are very cheap, (the whole point of Heirloom actually). Many can be obtained from the freebots.
We all get 5 packs of cards as decided by the card generator. Each pack contains 15 cards. To build a deck just put all the cards in a sideboard and make a 40 card deck min, use all the basic land you want. Since we play under freeform rules it doesn't matter if the deck is otherwise legal,(like having a huge sideboard). You can change your deck between matches all you want as long as you're using just the cards you've drawn.
We then play each other player a 3-game match and report on a forum post who won.
2-0=7 points
2-1=5 points
1-2=3 points
0-2=1 point
Then when all matches have been played, usually a week deadline, we all are issued another 15 card pack and play each other again. The top three winners split the $$$, but I'm not sure how it's split as winning these leagues has never been my strong suit.
Or do you want to do just one round? Play each other one match and winner take all? If we had tons of clannies then I'd say one round leagues but with just the few of us I think it's more exiting to do the full 4-round thing.....Need more input people.

mmmm not sure if i want to do this , the last league we played sorta cured me.
I know i quit after 2 weeks because i simply couldn't find anyone to play even thought i checked in at 'for me' unholy times seveveral times a week.
I think nobody finished that last league.
However i really like sealed heirloom so i will think about it.

I'm in. I can log in a few times a day for 15-30 mins until i catch everyone. And we can always sign in early on sundays to play catch up matches
Oh, and i like the multi week format best. I'm good with the 3 tix entry, though bragging rights is good for me too (or something in between). The biggest intermittent (not always) problem we used to have is if people weren't doing too well in the league they would not finish. So I would just ask anyone that enters to make the commitment to play for the entire length of the league.

I'm good with a sealed heirloom with a 3-4 round go so that the we have the whole month to play and I'm sure i can hit up everyone during the week if not Saturdays and Sunday's are a good time to play for me. I'm good with a 3tix entry or less is fine too and killer pic Nite I like it.
I'm in. I'd prefer doing a 4 week run, otherwise you just get one card pool rather than adding packs.
Fort, what are your best times to meet? I could meet a morning before work (for me). I'm 6 hours earlier than you, so that may be the middle of your work day.

I think we should try this just to see how it goes. I will play, and try a bit harder to be online more. But, that is still only 5-6. I was hoping to hear from more clannies on this.
So I've been waiting on hearing back from MrCross to see if he updated our card generator. I think the last update was May 2011, about a year & a half ago. If we go with that, all of the sets that came out since then won't be in it, plus any price fluctuations also won't be represented. Since he's a teacher he might be on vacation this time of year.
However, since we'd all be drawing from the same card pool, it would still be fair.
I might still see if I can figure out how to get it updated on my own, (I know nothing about excel spreadsheets), but if nothing else, we can use the old set..or... we can just do tribal or pauper or PPS or whatever. It's just if we want a generator, this is all I have at the moment. Again, if you want to look at it and see what you can do with it, you can download it here...

If the generator does not get updated, the old card pool should be just fine. I doubt the price swings were significan't.
Nice card, nite! Ah, I remember when I made cards for clannies. It was fun, but now I seem to have no time! Y'all keep the discussion going. We'll figure something out.
Has anyone given a clan league any more thought/research? I have been way too busy with the holidays, work, etc. Any thoughts, ideas?
