I just saw on IGN this morning that they're doing a promo giving away keys to the beta.  Anyone who didn't get in directly on the defiance website might want to check that out.

This game is pretty rough, i see the potential but i have a hard time seeing this game not falling on it's ass at launch if the servers are this bad with 10 days to go live.  I'm still interested in the game but this isnt something i'm picking up launch day, i'll wait at least a week and see if they can fix it.

There also seems to be a pretty heavy microtransaction component in the menus.  You can buy things like boosted XP but they all seem like they work for a time period so you have to keep buying again and again.  So it seems pretty clear how they're going to fund this game aside from the initial purchase fee.

Anyway they're downing the servers friday night to patch them so i'll see how the game plays saturday.

Huge improvement saturday, whatever they did to the servers overnight seems like it fixed a lot of the lag related issues.  Game is actually playable.

It is playable and it does seem fun but it is very buggy. Those bugs are going to be on the disk... I think the old "wait and see" is a good idea here.

The game is actually pretty cool, i've got 21 hours into it so far,  level 222 and I think i'm on one of the last missions you can do within the restrictions of the beta.  I've enjoyed it a lot more than I thought.

Server issues aside though, the game does crash a lot and we had numerous bugs related to grouping up.  And the interface really isn't that inutiive, there's a ton of stuff in here and no explination as to what any of it does.  It really feels like a PC interface poorly adapted to console restrictions.

It looks like there's a ton of stuff in there that is micro transaction based.  I noticed the 150 dollar edition comes with the $40 season pass and 1200 'bits' which are the micro transaction currency.  What a bit is to the US dollar is unknown to me at the moment unless it's along the lines of Microsoft points which would be 1600 for 20 bucks.  So im not sure how that's all going to work out.  So you gotta buy the game, then buy the DLCs then buy the microtransaction stuff.  I can't help but wonder what the total cost of ownership is going to be.

The random world events kind of get boring after a while, every 100 yards it seems like there's some humans that need to be rescured from bandits or hellbugs.  You can only do that so many times before it gets really boring and you just start waving as you drive by.  The side missions get equally repetitive, they mostly comprise of picking up your mission, going to a spot and initiating a battle with hellbugs or bandits while you need to collect, activate or rescue 3 - 5 'things'.   The story missions are much deeper and follow a narrative and iv'e enjoyed those a lot.  Likewise the large environmental events are fun and interesting, usually there's 5 of these skyfall things , four of which are battle based and then the 5th is a huge raid boss fight where you you get aton of Xp and drops (though drops are disable din the beta).  Again though, 20 hours in and i'm like meh....  about the only reason i go do them is for the ammo because the world is noticably scarce on ammo stations.   The game comes with two dedicated co-=op  missions for up to 4 players and those are pretty intense and you usually get a couple decent drops doing them.  Haven't tried the pvp stuff yet, though i did see a pvp match pop up onthe world map but couldn't get over there in time.

Anyway, 21 hours into the game and i'm digging it.  And honestly there isn't shit coming out thru to about September that i'm interested in picking up so......  seems like the perfect time to MMO.  I am however not picking this up at launch.  The game as a few too many problems and I think if their servers and the game has so many problems 10 days before launch, this thing is going to blow chunks out of the gate.  So i'll pick it up a week later, maybe two.

I hate RMT.

Did you have any issues modding your guns? I have a hell of a time. I can unlock all the mod slots but the mods disapear shortly after I attach them to the gun.

I don't fully understand the modding. Seems like some guns i have the optoin to add a mod slot, and others i don't and I don't know why the difference.  But yes I did have one gun i added a mod slot to.  But then i wasn't sure where mods come from until i got to the ranch base and saw they had mods for sale and I equipped two mods on that gun i'd added the slots to.

However later, I took a barrel mod OFF a gun and that barrel disappeared.  My expectation was to see it in my inventory.

And whats with the timer?  Why?  What's the point.

I think it is better to have the timer than to grind crafting levels before you can make what you want.

I played some of the PC beta yesterday.  Eh, it's not a bad game, I kinda liked it, but it felt like a free-to-play game that they decided to charge $60 for.  I see this game dropping in price really fast, not sure there's a price point where I'd buy it though.  When it goes F2P I'll definitely play it.  Content was very sparse and repetitive, maybe it's just the PC beta but I barely saw other players in the game.  A few here and there in the open world and maybe the most I saw was around 20 during a group event where we had to kill some giant Hellbug invasion.  I only played for a few hours but I never figured out how to get into any PvP so I can't comment on that aspect.  If I had to guess though most everyone will be using the Cloak ability.

There is a fairly large population on the 360.  On PC you've got so many other options, maybe defiance isn't appealing for that platform.  But on Xbox360 you have no other MMO options and it seems like there's a good number of people playing.  Now this is the 3rd PC beta so maybe PC people have come and gone, it's the first beta for 360 so it's new to us which helps population numbers.

The environmental stuff does get repetitive though, rescue prisoners, fight hellbug invasions.... even the side msisions are go iniatiate the fight and hit these 3-5 objectives spawning additional fighting.  It doe get boring.  The story stuff is pretty good though, it's drawn me in.

im not going to buy the game because i can see myself sinking way to much time into playing it, i havent played a mmo since UltimaOnline but i got the itch while playing to continue playing. which is the reason why im not. if thats not a glowing review of the game then i dont know what the hell would be.

Thats the last MMO i played as well .  But the way I see it is, from april thru to about September there's nothing coming out that i'm personally interested in on the 360.  So, why not give it a go, if i play it for 4 months, that'll be among the longest i've ever stuck with one game besides Gears3.

You really get alot of value out of a MMO. Everyone I play, I play for months or even years. I play casually on most of them but it really saves me some real cash by not buying a few games and content for each. There is just a monthly subscription and usually a big expansion to buy every year or so.
