ACV - Tips and tricks

Sounds like there is some real pilot tricks in this game when it comes to manuevers. Sounds like a lot are some way related to gliding using no extra power to conserve energy and another that has me stoked; being able to glide in one direction then have the AC rotate in another to fire on enemies in another direction without changinging the glide direction. Pretty cool stuff.

Energy Management

Also you have probably noticed in the vids the little announcer saying "Scan Mode" Over and over again. Thats because the scan mode which I believe scans for threats.... Restores energy FAST!. What it does is it turns off the weapons. You can't fire but also it negates for some odd reason the energy drain of all your AC's parts making your energy restore at alarming rates. Thats why during frenetic battles when the fella knows exactly where his enemy is he is tapping the scan mode button over and over. With out the energy you end up a sitting duck.

Turning: Tank legs have superior ground turning speed. But oddly many campaign tank builds you battle will not take advantage of this.

That sounds more like a demo glitch than something you're supposed to do, but if not that'll be something to work into the strategy.

it is confirmed in the updated Jap retail version of the game. I believe its not the actual legs that turn but the torso. I could be wrong. Sounds like a tank that is motionless, is a lot more deadly then one that isn't. I know hard to believe in a AC game that anything motionless could survive long but thats what I have heard. Testing, further testing needed.

Sniper rifles are said to have a higher fire rate when on quad legs. Also they seem to be much more effective then in 4.

That bird's eye replay feature looks pretty cool.

Never noticed that before.

Couple tips I've noticed that aren't explained well.

If you wanna use the scope on a sniper, you have to use the sniper cannon. The sniper rifles don't get a scope.

Only quads should use the sniper cannons. Any fewer legs and the shot will never go near the center of the crosshair, the tank legs can't use the scope at all.

By the same token, only the tank should use the other cannons because they don't get the scope. Zooming in with a big ass autocannon doesn't not work.

You get to carry 2 weapons per arm now, instead of just one and possibly a handgun. Pressing Y+L/R T swaps the weapon for that hand. You can carry any combination of weapons you like but the cannons can't be swapped. If one of those are in your hand they're there til you're out of ammo.

The UAV shoulder weapon shoots into the air above you and lets you play from a vantage point WAY over your head. You still get full control of your mech and it lets you see what's around you.

What's the advantage of fully scanning a target? I know you get to see a lot of its stats but is that all it does for you?

In the heat of battle scanning goes right out the window for me. It almost got me killed on that laser sniper part because they could lock on and shoot faster than I could complete my scan.

I think it's more for the multiplayer. You can scan the enemy and see what weapons and gear he's carrying so you know if you're about to run into a sniper or a guy with two swords.

You can also improve your scanning depending on your FCS and head unit. With my quad build I can fully scan anything almost instantly, but my reverse leg mech takes nearly 4 seconds.

That's one thing I never even thought to try. Can you build more than 1 mech to have on hand depending on mission needs?

What you can do is name your AC, then go to AC Data and save it. That way you can load different schematics instead of building from scratch every time.

Cool. Well there's another 4 hours I'll be spending in the garage this week laugh

Just found this today. This may help you a little bit Evil but it still leaves a lot unexplained.

I'm looking forward to the stuff they talk about towards the end. That's gonna be fun smiley

This is about the best, and about the only, helpful video I've found on the HUD and a few other explanations

Some of the heavier arms let you have a shoulder weapon in both the left and right arm. This doesn't mean you can have 2 types of missiles, it just means whatever missile you use fires 2 shots at a time instead of 1. So you'll do more damage but also use up ammo twice as fast. Just something to be aware of.

If you hold down your high boost button you'll do a charge kick. Depending on your leg type you can do a fair bit of damage. Heavy biped legs average around 19k damage for charge attack power. Tank legs average around 15k. Heavy reverse joints around 12k, medium biped and light reverse joint tie around 9-10k, then the light biped around 6k. If you've got a sword this is a great way to get in there and fuck some shit up.

Here's a tip on how to get some money quick (not my idea. Saw it on youtube) play the order missions that you fight an AC over and over again. Beating them quickly and with little damage to yourself will get you more money.

Mentioned this in another thread but I begs reminder here;

In the garage, press the "B" button to choose different categories of parts for that location.

Press the "Right Trigger" to see all the parts

High Capacity Generators are a godsend. Unless using a specialized LW. go with a High Cap Genny.

Remember Scan mode recovers Energy quicker. In battle when trying to manuever behind buildings, stay in scan mode till you get a clear shot.

Unconfirmed but I got this from a reputable source.

The forward velocity of your mech is added to your projectile weapons muzzle velocity. So firing your sniper rifles whilst boosting forward towards your target will increase their effectiveness.

Was talking with my co-worker whom you all know as "Q", he was playing as a merc last night with a full team of 4, they invaded some territory that only 2 guys showed up to defend.

He was telling me that one of those other 2 on the enemy team killed three of Q's team with 2 shots each, him included. sad

After hearing this I am thinking we all need to team up and knock out the single player campaign doing co-op so we can unlock the rest of the gear as that seems to be the only way to unlock new stuff that I've found.

If weez gonna take over the map we better get all the gear we can get our hands on so as to be prepared for a fight like the one mentioned above.

I need some this new gear as well. I'm only on Mission 03. The one with first giant ass boss. I'd do it with a Merc they don't seem to want to get all the bonus objectives.

I'm always up for co-op. Hit me up anytime.

That offer is good to anyone too.

Head Stability = Enhanced Mobility, Stun Prevention
Arm Stability = Enchanced Rate of Fire
Leg Stability = Enhanced Accuracy, Stun Prevention

[quote]Heavy RJs have the highest stability in the game, with all other legset types running about 1000 or so max. Quads have more stability while kneeling. It's why heavy RJs make good cannon platforms for invasions. The patches do remedy a lot of these issues, though. Stability goes up on a few legs, and stability goes down for CE arms while going up for KE and TE arms. This makes using arms other than CE arms much more useful. The top stability for an arm (Svir) is 199 in 1.02/1.03. Much lower than 255, which makes a big deal. Especially with all the modified reloads. Things like Isari go down to 188 or so, I believe. Most TE/KE arms gain about 20 firing stability, too.   [\quote]

edit********

for some reason I think maybe head and leg stability should be switched, Don't have my game with me to see if that stuff is reflected in the AC's stats.
