OK - Time for more hype!
Apparently Bungie has introduced a popular game mechanic that allows us to pass a XP buff from Guardian to Guardian.
Reports are coming out of the Crucible of various new XP buffs people are picking up with different names. So far the following have been identified: Magnificence 2.0, Glory 2.1, Splendor 2.6, Brilliance 3.2
Here is how it works:
The "infected" person creates an orb in Crucible and the orb(s) is picked up by your team. When the person that picked up the orb is killed by the other team, the infection is passed along to the person on the other team that made the kill. This allows the person on the other team to "infect" his/her own team.
So far it seems these just allow for various XP buffs, but we'll see if they stack or what else might happen. Also, you'll get a colored swirly thing around your head...lol Similar to the Y1 Nightfall flames we used to get.

Nope it's actually a real thing in the game right now. Looks like we are going into the Crucible tonight to get an STD (SIVA Transmitted Disease).

Morning i hope you are all sleeping at this time but i have a few updates for this :)
the website owl sector has updated and given the transcripts to all of the infections - You will need to click the red icon in the bottom right asking you to enter the owl sector records, infection FORTITUDE 3.1 has the most concerning notes ! but i will let you read it to stop spoilers.
http://owlsector.bungie.net/#en - the infection map has progressed to 13 hours so far and the dots are forming triangles across different countries it doesn't appear to be infected users because it is in such strange locations some times.

Someone has also been able to obtain all 5 of the viruses he states that he did the level 41 challenge of elders and completed a bounty.

I currently have the brilliance and magnificence infections but i am going to try the challenge of elders mission now and will let you know what i can find out :) at this time i haven't been able to find if this actually does anything ( see edit ) but we will have 4 days left to play before rise of iron and i doubt much will change over the weekend.

Edit - i have learned that when you have obtained an infection as soon as the game/mission ends your character is then locked in with the current infections and can no longer obtain any more infections. If you have 3 characters you have 3 chances to get the total of 5. They can be transferred in private matches. My warlock for example can not get Glory, Splendor and Fortitude. But my titan and hunter still have this chance. They are CLEAN characters at this time.

I have to say that if you are at all interested in the Grimoire in the game, these Owl Sector entries are most interesting. They seem to updating regularly, so check back to read the new logs.
They seem to be updating every few hours some times every hour.
just from past experience and having followed bungie for alot of years to many that i care to admit around 1 pm eastern something may happen if there is to be an new addition to this virus situation before the weekend.
I have just heard a theory on a stream that come 2 am pacific when reset happens on Tuesday, the tower will be locked out and we can only attempt to get to fell winters peak. The tower will go into quarantine. This sounds like a cool idea. on that owl sector website there is lots of talk about quarantine being the last resort.

They are currently discussing that this will be a way to stop people rushing to the tower and power leveling to max light in an hour or so and maybe we wont be able to access the tower for a day or so.
So if someone hasn't gotten the RoI expansion, they won't be able to access a cryptarch, bounty tracker, etc?
ha i was just coming back to type some more about it.
so the additional stuff discussed was.
ROI expansive has to be purchased. - the idea is to stop you power leveling, if you don't have rise of iron you cant level any further anyway therefore you are not affected by this.
A few people mentioned that you have to be max light for this to take effect as well and a few other ideas i didnt catch as i went to make a sandwich.
the main suggestion is that you have to have certain things completed/purchased for this to happen other wise you just play the game as normal PRE RISE OF IRON.
the theory does tie in nicely with everything that is going on with this owel sector website.
if you get a change to read the Owl sector website that is being updated every few hours with more information of guardians talking about the outbreak etc.

We are currently 19 hours post virus release and people are still trying to work all this out.
How are we going to explain to our girlfriends/wives that we got infected with space herpes?
I get the idea of banning us from The Tower, but it just seems like it would be too hard to pull off. Plus, ultimately unnecessary. If people want to power-level and burn through the content, then so be it. Bungie/Activi$ion already has our money...lol
Not to mention the thousands of Destiny players that haven't played for months during the content drought and would have no idea what is happening with the game. Then find the Tower closed.
The Tower is too central to the game to just keep us away and I already have a vault full of engrams, so I don't really care about being denied access to the Factions if this were to come to fruition.
I don't think the Tower's closure would be long, just maybe for couple days or so after RoI launch. There is the Reef players can go as a substitute if they don't have RoI. The infection won't last.

Good news Guardians, we've been cured!
You can review the Owl Sector website for information on what happened, but the short version is that somebody released this Golden Age biotech that spread throughout the Guardians. A treatment was found and we have been cured of our "mites". I rather enjoyed the swirly bugs - perhaps this will be the new Nightfall "flames"? I haven't seen that mentioned as coming back, so probably not - but it would be a way for Bungie to re-introduce the buff and give it some lore.
This was basically Bungie's way of giving us a rep boost these last few days in prep for RoI. A neat idea that certainly sped up the hype train.
