Rise of Iron Information
Rise of Iron Information
I figured we need a HYPE thread for Rise of Iron since the Game Informer drop today.
DISCUSS!!!!
Here is what I lifted off Reddit:
Summary so far:
-
Max level of 385 - then 400 for HM Raid (Wrath of the Machine)
-
Sept. 23 raid launch date
-
8 new class-agnostic artifacts that allow for special buffs to characters
-
Memory of Radeghast: adds a new ability for sword heavy weapons to reflect projectiles, including ogre blasts and crucible rockets.
-
Memory of Perun: adds ability to highlight guardians with full super in yellow, and guardians with low health in red.
-
Memory of Jolder: removes sprint cooldown
-
Memory of Silmar: dramatically reduces any damage dealt by DoT effects (such as Thorn poison).
-
Memory of Felwinter: lose your super, but gain an extra grenade and melee, and boost to all stats.
-
Memory of Gheleon: gain detailed radar at all times, including when aiming a primary (grants precision radar and third eye).
-
Memory of Skorri: speeds super recharge for all nearby allies.
-
Memory of Timur: Melee an enemy for a chance to make them an ally for a short time.
-
Adding more cosmetic adjustments for armor AND weapons
-
The Iron Lord armor set will come from a Rise of Iron Record Book
-
IB reinvented, 4 new maps. No more tempered, less rep needed overall. No more rep bonuses from gear.
-
Radiant Treasures: Confirmed Microtransactions for Ornaments.
-
Bungie HINTS AT CUSTOM MATCHES, aka the feature "Our community has been clammoring for."
-
New Faction (NM, FWC, DO) armor sets, sparrows, ghost shells.
-
Thorn is getting a quest to obtain it, just like Gjallarhorn.
-
The Kvostov 7G-0X is a new exotic auto rifle with a fire mode selector. It can basically be a scout, pulse, Suros Regime, or bullet hose. Also acquired from a quest.
-
Sepiks prime is back as Sepiks Perfected . And The Summoning Pits will be the Abomination Heist .
-
Festival of Light returning in October
-
SRL Back in December
-
SRL/MoT type book to track progress of ROI
-
New Cruicible mode - "Supremacy" - kill enemies to make them drop a crest. Your team only scores if someone (you or a teammate) picks up that crest. Enemy team members can also pick up the crest to deny your score, but they won’t gain any points themselves.
-
Possibly new horde arena mode - "Archon's Forge"
-
PS Exlusive Map - Finally, this year’s PlayStation exclusive map is Icarus, a solar-collection site on Mercury. The arena is the raised structure at the center of the much larger crater-like array. Its circular shape inevitably funnels into furious conflagrations at the center.
-
When Speaking on Exotics, "These Include the long- awaited arrival of Warlock exotic boots (finally!), a new sidearm reminiscent of the classic RoboCop gun, and a SIVA-themed pulse rifle that blossoms out a cloud of seeking energy for a successful precision kill."
-
every class item that has ever shown up in Destiny is returning to circulation with the exception of items from previous raids
-
Class Items can change color via shader
-
All Year Two weapons and armor can be infused to Rise Of Iron stats
So far, I'm loving the change to the Artifact slot that gives us more options on "builds". The return of the Kvostov as an exotic sounds interesting with the ability to change it for basically an auto, pulse or scout rifle.
The Supremacy crucible mode should be fun. Sounds just like "Kill Confirmed" from CoD and that was one of my favorite modes.
Also, Thorn is coming back in RoI - prepare your salt shakers...lol
Sounds sooo good!
... ftfy
If it's optional, that'd be fine; I don't want to be forced to do a Thorn quest again... I would be quite happy to stroll up to the weapons kiosk in the Tower and purchase one, like you can do now with the Y2 versions of Y1 weapons you have acquired. Let kinderguardians run the quest.
I'm hoping we all will get to do the new Thorn quest. I enjoyed the exotic quests, so I hope this happens.
Thanks for the list, Darth. Looks like lots of fun ahead this fall!
Thanks for the details, Darth!
Yay for the return of Thorn and Custom matches!
Boo on PS exclusive map! The description sounds very interesting.
Clarify what this means from IB reinvented: "No more tempered, less rep needed overall. No more rep bonuses from gear." Thanks.
One thing surprised me is that our character level stays the same at 40. I thought RoI would boost up to 50. Maybe Bungie wanted to avoid players with GTs "Legit at 50" or something (recalling Halo 3's level 50 silliness).
Cheeze, I think it means Iron Banner will be less of a grind with less rep needed to rank up and not being restricted to wearing certain IB gear (class items) to get bonus rep.
The tempered buff was something Bungie added to allow us to rank up faster as IB week progressed. We used to have to buy the buff from Saladin every day, but Bungie changed how it works a few updates back to make it apply automatically.
And I guess since less IB rep needed overall, no more need for the Tempered buff.
It will be interesting to see how much of this stuff is broken when RoI launches. I'll bet you an exotic engram that something will be screwed up at launch.
Well, that's a pretty safe bet BLAM - especially since we can't trade gear/engrams...lol
Thanks for the explanation. My beef with the present IB competitive set-up is the reaching of top points in first place in a match to complete a buff. It's such a damn grind to compete with own teammates to make yourself to first place!
Rumor has it that the "first place" requirement for one of the weekly bounties is going away with the update.
Also, there is speculation that the bounties themselves will drop IB loot.
Hm. Broken? Or just an unhealthy dose of beavers?
Seems you can always expect some number of angry beavers with each update. It's the other unknown/unplanned "surprises" I'm not looking forward to...
The hype train just stopped for refueling.
Here is some of the info (courtesy of Reddit) from the latest Game Informer podcast:
SUMMARY OF NEW INFO:
Tyra (new Cryptarch at Felwinters Peak) has weekly bounties to complete. Competing all of them in a given week grants you a token to spend on one of the three new artifacts she has each week. Artifacts rotate each week and it is assumed that you can stack tokens to use on a different week. Total of 8 new artifacts that she will sell. GI described these bounties as "not-too grindy" and shouldn't take that long to complete each week.
The farther you travel into the Plaguelands, the more industrial and SIVA-infested it gets.
There are chests scattered around the Plaguelands that are "mimic chests" - opening one of these will not grant you the regular glimmer/mats/etc. but something bad will happen (whatever that means). Don't know if there's a way to distinguish between a normal chest and a fake chest.
New set of calcified fragments to collect in the Plaguelands called Dormant SIVA Clusters. Less than 50 to collect, don't know the exact number.
New dead ghosts to collect as well.
To make up for the lack of Cayde-6 "humor" dialogue, the ghost has been given more of a personality. Also a lot of Lord Saladin dialogue.
Five (5) main story missions but there are quests that stem out after you complete the campaign. Similar to TTK, as there were only 8 main story missions in TTK.
Nostalgic scene (or mission) where you travel throughout the transformed locations of the Cosmodrome with your ghost.
Also, not every location from the Cosmodrome has been re-skinned and accessible during the new Plaguelands patrol. So far, we know we can access the Wall, The Divide, Rocketyard, Refinery, The Blast, and The Devil's Lair. Don't know if you can travel to any of the other old locations.
New raid - Wrath of the Machine - can be summed up as being a "collision" of a raid ("smashing s--t into other s--t" as they put it). Not really sure what that means. In addition, a good portion of the raid takes place outdoors and you can actually see raid locations during patrol and during missions.
Video coming out soon interviewing the raid team about their process designing a raid. No spoilers in this video, so don't watch it looking for information on the new raid.
Also another video coming out very soon interviewing the story team behind Rise of Iron.
Archons Forge - the new PvE arena - can be described as a mix between Court of Oryx and Prison of Elders. Instead of fighting a boss like in CoO, you fight waves of enemies first, and then you fight the boss at the end. Archons Forge is the size of a PoE arena. Less focus on mechanics like the CoO bosses and more of a focus on killing enemies. Different difficulty tiers just like in CoO. Not sure if this is a public event thing in patrol or an event you select on the director or what, but they said at the end of the month they will describe it more in-depth.
New strike takes place in the Plaguelands, has different routes that open up each run. For example, in the podcast they mentioned that in their playthrough, there was a part where the paths split but only one path was open. Bungie told them that in other playthroughs, the other path/door could be open. Strike has to do with SIVA and the Hive.
Phogoth strike on Moon and Sepiks Prime strike on Earth have been revamped and brought forward into year 3. Both strikes have gotten graphical overhauls, audio overhauls (for example, the opening dialogue is different for those strikes), and involve a lot of SIVA. Both bosses have been SIVA-infected.
New Crucible mode Supremacy is exactly like Kill Confirmed from the Call of Duty series. Kill a guardian, pick up his/her fallen engram to score a point. If a teammate dies, pick up their fallen engram to deny the other team a point. Don't know if you get points for kills but if it's anything like Kill Confirmed you only get points for picking up the fallen token (dog tag in CoD, engram in Destiny).
A lot of new armor sets, exclusive armor sets from the Raid (obviously), Iron Banner, Iron Lord set (from completing the Rise of Iron record book), Archons Forge set, Trials set, and probably a bunch of new vendor gear.
Record book for Rise of Iron rewards shaders, emblems, the Iron Lord armor set, and a special ghost shell. Works just like the Moments of Triumph book where every xx% completed you unlock something.
Ornaments work just like Chroma does that was introduced in the April update. It is a upgrade slot on special gear sets (exotic armor and weapons, the Iron Lords armor set from the record book, the Raid gear all confirmed) to change the physical appearance of a piece of armor or the color of a weapon. You apply the ornament per armor piece, so you would need to apply 4 ornaments to cover all 4 armor pieces. There's probably more gear/weapons that ornaments work on, but that's all that is confirmed so far. I'm assuming you can use them on Raid weapons too.
Lots of good info there, Darth - thanks for the update!
Thanks for the info Darth. All of this sounds great -- gets me excited for the game again. Sounds like a subtle change in PVE game play to keep one on his/her toes and lots of new stuff, including apparently a new approach to raiding. I do really like the idea of getting a reward token for completing bounties. Hopefully that will keep them from getting stale. For someone like me with a lot of time on my hand, this is really important.
Just pre-ordered Rise of Iron on Xbox.com.
WOOT!
I was guessing it would become available right after the Aug update.
Now that I am out of that stinking Preview program I will put in my pre-order too.
Except, it's not available in Canada yet.
Well that sucks. XBOX preorder has 2 choices - gamestop and microsoft. Don't like gamestop so I went to preorder via microsoft and it is not available yet. Still shows coming soon. BOO!
Achy, do a search on xbox.com. I ran into that issue. Ranger purchased his and I kept getting coming soon. I did a search and there are two items listed under games. One is listed as add-on, the other is bundle. The add-on is still coming soon and I couldn't order. But the listing for the bundle let me pre-order.
Was able to preorder after searching on "Destiny" and hitting the button to show all results. For some reason, searching on "Rise" didn't cut it.
Ok. Will try the "bundle" approach. Seem to remember having preorder issues before with M$.
Success! But man was that convoluted!
Pre-order finally worked.
Thanks for the latest information, Darth!
You said: "New raid - Wrath of the Machine - can be summed up as being a "collision" of a raid ("smashing s--t into other s--t" as they put it). Not really sure what that means. Sounds like a raid crew would encounter the next stage so soon after completing the previous stage. As if there might be no respite between stages of a raid.
